VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 If Detroit doesn't "need" a goalie then no team has ever needed one ever. From watching the games it becomes clear that Conklin has been solid all year and our defense is non-existent. Ozzie has brought his game back and can be counted on most likely. Why would the Wings risk screwing this up to grab a goalie who wouldn't be any better and could very well be worse in the playoffs?

Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 The Leopold trade was by design. Apparently, the Flames think that they will have a penalty-shot situation vs. Osgood in the playoffs.
Doggy 130 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 3 time cup winning goalie. 97, 98, and 2008 If you're the kind of person that calls Legace a cup winning goalie, sure. But Ozzie wasn't in net in 97.
MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 (edited) Here's a prediction, if Roberts is brought up one re-entry we'll claim him. Can't do it. Players had to be on waivers yesterday. No more waivers the rest of the way. But to get on re-entry waivers, Roberts would have to physically report to Norfolk, then go on re-entry waivers, and that's impossible at this point. Roberts could be traded for a salary, because Roberts gets $10,000 (bonus) a game and that scared some teams off. Edited March 4, 2009 by MacK_Attack

YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 Here's a prediction, if Roberts is brought up one re-entry we'll claim him. I'm sure other teams would put a claim in for him before we did. At least we'd get our hands on him before San Jose. The reason he hasnt been claimed yet likely has everything to do with his salary. I'd expect TB to put him on re-entry waivers just to clear some money from their budget.

shadow47 1 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 (edited) Osgood has played three games and has "gotten his game back"? I don't think so. BTW Buffalo like an idiot gets another crap goalie. They are 0-3 since Miller went down but Lalime has given up 6 goals in 3 games including the overtime game. They were shutout by the ISLANDERS! the worst team in the league. And they get a goalie? It's silly. Edit: Roberts career is not over. Tampa will no doubt keep him the rest of the season, they were just trying to get rid of him but they waited too long. Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 Wings won't make a trade to make a trade. If they find the right fit price, cap space and assets to give up, they'll do it. The only thing I see is a checker. They will not get a goalie. Who at the price of 1mil a year or so is going to so great that the wings would pick him up? Ian Lapierre! Please Holland? He's exactly the Drake type we need on the 4th line!

Nightfall 871 Report post Posted March 4, 2009 (edited) If you're the kind of person that calls Legace a cup winning goalie, sure. But Ozzie wasn't in net in 97. He played a major part of the season in getting them to the playoffs. Without his contribution, they don't even make it. IMHO it should count and it does. I think its cheap of anyone to slight any player like that. Especially someone who did his job and maybe got injured in the first round of playoffs and was unable to compete. Either that or won a ton of games in the regular season then sat backup for the hot hand which makes sense. He still did his part though and thats the point.
