Red Wings' Tomas Holmstrom Skates with Team

Update from Friday's morning skate: Tomas Holmstrom, who underwent surgery for a sports hernia on Feb. 11, skated with the team for the first time. He had skated on his own the last three days. He expects to have his first full practice with the team on Monday and estimated that would be another 1-2 weeks before he returned to the lineup.

"Feel pretty good. No pain,'' Holmstrom said. "Doctor said three to four weeks, could be five, six weeks (from the date of the surgery). It's tough know how much you can push it because you don't know if it's going to get sore later when you get up or the next day.''

I'm glad he's feeling better and that the surgery went okay, but DON'T PUSH IT HOMER.

Take as much time as you need to get ready for the playoffs. For serious. The last thing we need is you getting another hernia at an inopportune time.

Just stand in front of the net and tip shots during practice.

His back is skating? That's pretty incredible! :P

I wonder how many hernia operations he is from retiring. He turned 36 last month and this will be two straight years of < 60 regular season games. His back is so black and blue after games right now it probably resembles a July thundercloud.

I hope he retires while he can still walk. He'd be an invaluable asset to the coaching staff.

Holmstrom's been out? I didn't notice...

Wow, really?? I sure have.

We need him with Dats and Z again. Not that Cleary has been bad, but he isnt Holmstrom...
