How badly detroit sucks, its really pretty hilarious.

If by "sucking" you mean:

consistently making the playoffs 17 straight seasons (longest streak in professional sports)

11 Stanley Cups (more than any other American team), FOUR of those within the last 11 seasons

Then I would like to continue sucking please.

And these posts are the kind that make me smile with glee to be able to call myself a fan of such a strong organization. There is no viable reason to hate the Red Wings other than the fact that they're consistently a top contending team.

These are the people you just have to look at and appreciate what so much success has brought to this franchise. Let him/her flame. Let him/her wallow in their delusions.

We have the Stanley Cup. Need I say more?

The last straw was listening to the swedes talk about how they are looking to play in front of their fans back home next year. You will hear subtle jabs about the fans in Detroit. I think Franzen says something like, "The fans back home don't get up in the middle of the game to get a burger." Its pretty embarassing when your own team notices how many people don't pay attention to the game. You can hear the wings talk about the fans on Red Wings tv- Wings to Sweden.

Just to clean something up, I watched the video...here's what was said:

Lilja: "It's kind of different...they don't just sit down and eat burgers and drink beers, you know, they actually...most of them stand up and scream, sing, you know, sing stuff during the games...it's fun."

Franzen: "They're maybe more into the games than fans are here. They can get more excited when there's a goal or a fight. You never see anyone leave their seats in the middle of a period or anything like that...they're really watching the games."

Lidstrom: "The fans are, especially with the club teams, the fans are singing a lot, there are a lot of the songs going on up in the stands. I don't know if that's going to go on when we're over there, but the fans really get into the games."

I fail to see where this is critical of Wings fans, as opposed to North American fans in general. If anyone's ever seen the crowds for European hockey, they'd know that the players are pretty much speaking the truth on this one.

People will be people. Apparently there aren't too many people who are going to get your back, mikiemike. A few will, but not many.

Nuff said.

I got his back and it seems to be 50/50 here. People are taking his points a little too seriously, blowing a bit out of proportion if you will. He had some comments that I for one, agree with. Call it nit picking or whatever, it happens every single game, and it is annoying. All said and done though, there is not much that we can do about how others act.

I said "Nuff said"! Just kidding.

I think 50/50 is pushing it... I don't think it's that close. But you are right, there is not much we can do about others actions.

Oooh, are we classist now? I'm sorry Mr. Nouveau Riche, are us blue-collar peons bothering you?

What a degenerate post. Do you think people who work in construction or live in apartments are somehow below you? You're a troll, now amscray.

I think, at best, ****** bags are equal to you. People who say "troll" are just talking about you. You have now lost any little bit of sympathy I may have had for your plight. Take your elitist attitude to a Montreal site.

Why would I need sympathy from you? It was just a normal thread until you guys had to try your best impression of Dirty Harry. This thread/site has only reinforced my belief that this city knows very little about hockey and should hop on the next sports team that gets good.

*Creative comeback- douchbags = you. Did you and Osgod talk that over?

When did this turn into an "exert your intellectual ruling over others" thread?

Grow up.

That would imply that I said I was smarter than someone on this thread. If you can show me where I said something of that nature, I promise I'll grow up.

You posted here to so that you could read others posts that agree with you. It did not happen 100%, and you started getting pissy with others. Normal thread? Maybe, maybe not, but the responses were not what you expected and even said you didn't want to hear them.

This city? I don't live in Detroit. I've been there many times and enjoyed some great hockey. You keep bringing up the whole Hockeytown thing, although not in this particular post, like you have the ability to have it removed as the nickname for Detroit. Delusions of grandeur? I think so.

Osgod and I have never spoken, nor have we chatted online. This shows how you have issues with people who agree, but not with you.

Post your ramblings, mikiemike24, I'll reply no more to them. Your superiority complex has driven me to completely and utterly not give a damn what you have to say.

Thanks for the heads up on the fact that you have never talked to Osgod, I'm glad I know that know. You don't live in Detroit but you spend the majority of your day on the Red Wings forum and ironically in a forum talking about the fans of Detroit. Snag a hobby while you're not responding to this post.

I made the Hockeytown comment because the name Hockeytown leads me to believe that people would go to the game to actually watch the game rather than be getting beers and high fiving there other loser friends who are getting beers. Thats the only reason I referred to the hockeytown comment.

Again, what are you doing in this thread if you're not from here. You don't have a hockey team where you're from or do you just want to be on the winning team. That may be a strong reason why you know very little about hockey. You're a huge plug for getting so into something that doesn't even pertain to you. Good job.

The majority of the responses have been about "people pay their money so they can do whatever they want." I guess I was out of line to ask the question why don't people to go there to actually watch the game and then at intermission go down and get their fix. I have no idea why that question was out of line but a lot of people were confused by it.

No one was confused by anything. Most people here either have been or go to games themselves. No one really cares enough about something that trivial, though, to whine about it so vehemently.

I've been to other arena's and its not nearly as bad as Detroit so that's why I was asking the question. Let me know if anyone has a legitimate response to the discussion rather than who cares what the players think (which makes no sense), people pay money so they can do whatever they want, or give the reason that people unpredictable. I think its predictable that if you say you're going to a Red Wings game you're going to watch hockey. The question I ask is what happens after that?

So basically you only want responses from people who are nitpicking others like yourself, rather than the majority of people who don't see it as a big deal. Not to mention your only semi-legitimate rationale is because some unidentifiable amount of players (and really, WHO? HOW MANY? -- these you never even pointed out) don't like it as if fans need to ask the players permission to walk somewhere in the seats. f*** me, I thought players are supposed to play the game and watch the ice/puck/other players.

It's not just you. It's everyone who was involved in the name-calling or "comebacks" and the discussion over whose was more effective.

Not everybody agrees with you - it's not a big deal. I don't see a reason for this argument continuing any further other than to annoy people.

You asked why Kevvie was in this thread if he's not from Detroit. Wings fans aren't only from Detroit. Not being from Detroit doesn't mean you're a bandwagoner or less of a fan than someone who is from Detroit. I think to be from out of town and still fervently support the team shows a lot of character.

We have a lot of great fans here from all over the world; England, Sweden, Eastern Europe, Canada......they're fans just as much as the person from Grosse Pointe is.

This is a good site full of great people who know their hockey. If you can't see that, oh well.

Are we still going through this?

- People have to deal with traffic/work/normal family issues before coming to games typically

- People want to eat food or have a drink/two at the game, sometimes that means getting out of your seats during game play

- People sometimes have to go to the bathroom during the game, peeing in your pants would look kinda awkward

- As long as a fan isn't beligerantly acting like a jackass ruining the watching experience of the group around where I am sitting or just completely clueless like standing up continuously when everybody is sitting, we are in no place to tell them how to act.

For the multipleth time, issues that all teams in every league have to deal with. It has nothing to do with being a true vs. fake fan. You are a fan regardless.

Not hard to understand.

I don't mean to be insulting, and if it comes off that way .....I apologize. And this is not directed or focused on this thread or it's starter. Just me pondering the world in general.......

People need to stop complaining so much. Stop thinking about what you will complain about next. Don't be a sheep in a very large flock that conforms to what the rest are doing. If all you see is what's wrong with the world, you will live in a world that is all wrong. Not saying to stick your head in the sand and "see no evil" just cheer up. And don't be so impatient. People that ***** a lot make me want to move away from them. You would have a valid point if you asked the question "who do you think you are, telling people how to live?" And you would be right. I'm just a sheep that's trying to grow wings and fly above the bleaters.

on topic.....give em a minute or three. they'll move. try being nice and ask them if they need any help finding their seats? (since you clearly know your way around the Joe much better than they) *shrugs*

Anyway, this has been bothering me for the past few years and so I just wanted to see what other fans thought. You taken it way out of context. They were talking about European fans vs North American fans. Ever watch a soccer game? Other European sporting events have the same atmosphere as a soccer game and yes even Darts and Badminton across Europe has that same atmosphere.

Here are the hockey fans in Sweden, you won't find this in any of big 4 Professional sports around North America.
