jpd88 0 Report post Posted March 6, 2009 So today I was flying back from New York to Detroit and I sit in my seat and see none other than Red Wings General Manager Ken Holland. We started chatting about the wings and he said he was on his way back from a meeting he was having with Johan Franzens agent. He didn't say anything about the contract but he's a super intelligent person and it was awesome talking to him about hockey. Just wanted to share that and see what you guys think. They make for great reading because they're so upbeat and therefore I choose to believe they actually happened. Even my paltry tale of cornering Lidstrom, Schneider and Hull in a Bloomingdale's in downtown Chicago for autographs still brings wondrous memories back to me. Thanks for sharing these! Guest EZBAKETHAGANGSTA Report post Posted March 6, 2009 Ive seen Sammuelson and Mike babcock in person during the past week. Sammy was in the pool at lifetime with his kids, and man is he a lot bigger in real life then he looks on tv. Babcock was at the CC Vs Northville Regional playoff hockey game (was watching my alma matter and former teamtes Nville). Last year when we beat CC in the regional finals, Lidstrom and his son were apparently in the stands.
Carman 387 Report post Posted March 7, 2009 I met Holland while his son played in net for a Plymouth travel team. I think I had a hat-trick that day. His son is worse then this year's Osgood.

My first question would have been....How are the Hossa negotiations going, my second would have been when are you going to sign Hossa and my third would have been...what about Franzen. You have a duty as a Wings fan and LGWer to get this information! You are fired sir!

jpd88 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2009 To answer everyones questions I did ask holland about the negotiations. He said hossa negotiations were stalled because of a difference of opinions and franzen talks were just preliminary. I will also let you all know that he likes hossa more than franzen. It was the best plane ride of my life....
jpd88 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2009 Also the plane was 17 rows long so that is why he was sitting a row behind me. There was no first class. Also he invited me to park in the players lot and watch them practice before Tuesdays game against phoenix...forgot that minor detail

LeftWinger 5,154 Report post Posted March 7, 2009 (edited) so some of you think that the OP cannot afford First Class? I know he explained it was a small plane (probably a Compass Airlines Embrair, since Northwest is giving all the former DC9 routes to "Contract" work, but that is another story.) Even so, that is like you are judging him. I happen to fly first class everytime I fly! Also, you don't think it is possible to run into someone like Ken Holland? I remember back in the 90's before EVERYONE had a private jet, most of the NHL flew Northwest in and out of Detroit and I got thousands of opportunities to meet, talk and spend time with plenty of Hockey Players. Had lunch at the Old Terminal at Little Caesars with Jeremy Roenick and Joe Murphey when they both still played with Chicago (yeah awhile ago) but we actually shared a table and talked s*** about each others team! IT was great! Met and talked with Jagr when he was STILL on the Czech jumior team here during the Canada Cup way back then! So it can and probably did happen! The OP probably didn't want to yap his ear off the entire flight! I can remember this one time in the old "F" concourse at Metro, I ran across Wayne Gretzky a night after the Wings toasted the Kings something like 10-1 and all I said to him was "Nice game last night Wayne!" he looked at me a rolled hs eyes like saying "Faaaa Q!" The is part of the reason I have a low opinion of him! Gonna play like sh!t then you need to take the slack! Don't roll your eyes at me! LOL! That was great! Just bummed that negotiations isn't going well with Hossa. I said it before, and I'll say it again. I really don't put any expectations with Hossa being on the team next year. It's not practical with our current salary roster. Esp since Hossa is going to want to get paid.
