Shaman 713 Report post Posted March 14, 2009 (edited) Well with the wings victory today, if the sharks lose tonight they will have a 3 point edge in the west and SJ only having 2 games at hand, meaning that the wings would be one step closer to winning the West. dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted March 14, 2009 Yeah, San Jose has a lot of games against teams like LA, Colorado and Phoenix left.. they definitely have the easier schedule. I'm not putting much faith in LA being able to win tonight, but SJ needs to lose against some of these "bad" teams for the Wings to really have a chance.. so any help is greatly accepted, hear that Kings? Trophy and Wings get #1 in the West, would the Wings get home ice advantage until the SCF -- and the answer is yes, and that would be true only if the Wings play Boston in the SCF, assuming both teams go that far. If it were anyone else in the East, the Wings would get home ice for the SCF. We've won the Cup before with and without home ice advantage. Granted, it's been forever since we started a series on the road, but I've seen too much happen as a Wings fan to assume that home ice is going to be some kind of huge advantage for us. At this point I can envision us winning game 7 on the road, or losing game 7 at home. I realize these San Jose threads are going to pop up with every game they play, but in my opinion we don't have to care so much about their team until (if) we actually play them in the playoffs. I guess I can see the need to manufacture a little drama since wrapping up the division is pretty much a matter of formality but it's really pretty meaningless. I don't see how anyone can get that excited over them having one less game in hand with fifteen to go. If they even manage to lose to one of the crummiest teams in the conference. It's pretty consistent now that fans are more afraid of being beaten by a possibly better team than they are the team doing what has actually happened over the years and the Wings simply beating themselves against supposedly much weaker teams. Anyways, it's fun to watch San Jose lose after so much winning (especially all the hype coming from their end), and another President's Trophy would be pretty cool to have. Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted March 15, 2009 We beat Nashville on the road last year, Colorado on the road, Dallas on the road, and secured the Cup on the road. We beat Calgary on the road, we beat San Jose on the road. The only critical game we've lost on the road the last 2 years is Game 6 in Anaheim, but that one was over after Liljas gaff. 2nd is fine, if only San Jose and Boston have more points then us, I'lll be happy.
