Mike 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2009 Draper will play his 1,000th game in a Red Wings uniform tonight against the Flyers. This is an incredible achievement that is worthy of recognition. That $1 investment has really paid off. Congrats to Draper and Go Wings. MLive

Wombat 26 Report post Posted March 17, 2009 It's too bad tonight is a Versus game... I really wanted to hear Ken and Mickey talk about this during the broadcast.
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted March 17, 2009 It's too bad tonight is a Versus game... I really wanted to hear Ken and Mickey talk about this during the broadcast. Ugh, you're right. Talk about bad timing. Not only are we going to have to listen to some screwball who doesn't know Kris talk about him, we're likely going to be hearing it all game long, to the exclusion of everything else (like, you know, the game). Wombat 26 Report post Posted March 17, 2009 I guess we'll just have to do with Ken and Mickey celebrating Draper's 1001 game as a Wing. It's a palindrome, let's celebrate it!

Datsyerberger 279 Report post Posted March 17, 2009 Not that I'm saying I support it, but if there were ever a checking line player that should have his number retired by an organization, Draper is the guy. 1000 games with the team, most of them as 3rd line center, a Selke, tons of PK time, faceoff domination, a crucial part of 4 cups, and a leader. What a guy.
cusimano_brothers 1,655 Report post Posted March 17, 2009 He joins a list with some pretty impressive names; one of the greatest transactions the organization ever made. It's hard to believe that Bryan Murray was General Manager then (maybe the Head Coach told him to do it).
KrazyGangsta 79 Report post Posted March 17, 2009 Guys I was too young when the wings acquired him, can someone explain me how a team can invest 1$ in a player for trade ... how can you trade $$$ for a player is that possible?
Datsyerberger 279 Report post Posted March 17, 2009 Guys I was too young when the wings acquired him, can someone explain me how a team can invest 1$ in a player for trade ... how can you trade $$$ for a player is that possible? It's not possible anymore. Back in the day, $ could be part of the deal. Draper was acquired for $1 because Winnipeg was folding, and they were literally handing out their players for pennies (there technically had to be some assets coming their way for it to be considered a trade). softshoes 83 Report post Posted March 17, 2009 Do you not read? it's been stated in the topic already. Ya know when your panties bunch up like that it only takes a sec to unbunch em. Then you don't have to be a dick towards other people. Oh yeah, congrats Drapes. Nice run we got for a buck.
AtomicPunk 296 Report post Posted March 17, 2009 Even Drapes could not have imagined such a career for himself when he started in the league. The guy has had quite a career and has not slowed down all that much. Congrats to DRAPES!!

Ohhh got it, so assuming a team folds out just like Winnipeg would the same process be used or the players become a FA?
Datsyerberger 279 Report post Posted March 18, 2009 Ohhh got it, so assuming a team folds out just like Winnipeg would the same process be used or the players become a FA? Well, as I understand it, the team has to compensate all the contracts of the players it leaves hanging, so it was thus more economical to get a dollar for a player before folding than it was to hang onto them and pay off their contracts. cusimano_brothers 1,655 Report post Posted March 18, 2009 I found a reference online to a trade on July 9, 1990: Buffalo traded Ray Sheppard to the NY Rangers for $1 "to avoid the waiver wire". "Total Hockey" lists the transaction involving "cash and future considerations".
