I'm telling you,I think Nashville would be scarier than people think. We've beaten them twice (playoffs) and they will have fire in their eyes to get some revenge.Plus they ALWAYS play us tough.I personally don't care who they play because if you're going to repeat you gotta beat anybody that's going to be thrown in front of you anyway.I would hate to play some of these western teams because of time reasons but other than that,BRING IT!!!!!!

I don't care if its Chicago, Nashville or St. Louis. I just want short travel for the first round.

Oh, and I'm not sure what the scoreline was but I know if was low scoring and close.. no OT, though.

It would be great to see the Blues make it in. I think that city really deserves to see their team in the playoffs and they're a really hard working team.

Nashville or Edmonton wouldn't be a bad opponent either.

Definately don't want the Ducks. The playoffs are too long to have even minor injuries in the first round. But, if it were to happen we've got the depth to make up for it. Thank you, Kenny.

I think Minnesota is pretty much out of it. You can drop them from the list barring some sort of minor miracle.

If we play the Blues or the Ducks, we'd better pray for good/fair refs because both of those teams will play physical/dirty games.

I had a really vivid dream about 3 weeks ago... the Wings lost game 1 of the playoffs to Nashville.

that was last season.... and we lost games 1 and 2 before leaving all the rest behind ;)

and please god... NO NASHVILLE... they are the most boring team to watch in person. I can't stand a 7 game series against them!!!

bring on the Blues, old time hockey playoff games

I hope we face either Edmonton or Trashville. (We will sweep either)

Rather Optimistic given our recent play......

If we can't score against a LAST place team,

Not to mention Nashville has our number IMO. End result-Realistically - No Cup 2nd round exit

I dont want Minnesota or Edmonton

Minne has the Goaltending, the Defense first mentality.

Edmonton has Skill,Grit and alright goaltending

I would love for it to be St Louis or Anaheim

St Louis, is feisty, Mason is bound to break.

Anaheim is feisty, What goaltending?

If its St Louis,Anaheim it has the makings for highscoring and a big physical battle.

If the season ended today, the 1 seed is facing a playoff road that I'd much rather see the Red Wings face than the one the 2 seed would get. Especially if the Flames hang on to the 3 spot.

The Flames are a tough team that not only could make a tough 2nd round opponent for the Wings, but could also pose the most problems to the Sharks of any other team. So by getting the 2 seed, the Wings are potentially not only setting themselves up for a tough round 2 matchup (if they're fortunate enough to get there), but also eliminating the team that (IMO) stands the best chance of knocking off their biggest threat (the Sharks).

All this could change, of course; there's lots of time left for playoff seeding to change from top to bottom. But the early odds are that finishing first overall is a big deal. Not so much because of home ice in a potential Detroit-San Jose matchup, but because of the playoff matchups. Last season, the playoff matchups were a big reason why Detroit made it to the SCF. It was also the reason why the Wings didn't get there in 2007, when the Ducks coasted against inferior teams while the Wings faced a brutal first two rounds.

The Islanders loss felt like a turning point to me, and not a good one. First time the Wings were in control of their playoff seeding destiny and they showed up for only 20 minutes of the game. I hope time proves me wrong.

This is pretty competitive. If Columbus doesn't get their s*** together I might have to add them to this thread.

So far, these 5 teams are a collective 5-1 against teams that aren't fighting for a playoff spot. They're really stepping it up big time. No matter what, we're gonna have a pretty difficult first round if you ask me.

Ya know after watching this 4-3 loss to the Nashville Predators tonight I'm weary of any 1st round opponent. Two weeks ago I didn't want to play the Blue Jackets in the 1st round now it looks like we may play Nashiville again and I really don't want to play them in the first round if the Wings continue to play the way they do and they run into a team that is on a high from either making it into the playoffs after having a rough season and wasn't expecting to make the playoffs or a team that is just happy they are doing well, a hot team. It makes me worry about our opponent in any round but this 1st round is really going to be a huge round. I mean any round is big but to have to sing in the first round after a season like the Wings had last season it will be a bitter pill to take. I can honestly say that I'm a little worried. The Wings really need to get into playoff mode and start playing like the team we all know they can be. I'm not making any prediction still I'm just stating some feelings and some worries. I hope this is just stupid playoff jitters by a fan that LOVES the Detroit Red Wings and the Wings will do what they do and play great Detroit Red Wings Hockey. Let's Go Red Wings!!!!

The recent slump of Columbus puts them into the picture now, and Edmonton and Minnesota are almost certainly out of it. Here are the current standings.

6. Columbus Blue Jackets - 90 pts, 3 GR, 40 wins

7. Anaheim Ducks - 88 pts, 2 GR, 41 wins

8. Nashville Predators - 86 pts, 3 GR, 39 wins

9. St Louis Blues - 86 pts, 3 GR, 38 wins

10. Minnesota Wild - 83 pts, 3 GR, 37 wins

11. Edmonton Oilers - 83 pts, 3GR, 37 wins

It's not set in stone but it looks like the 7th seed will play Detroit now.

Games to be played:

Columbus

ROAD vs. Chicago

ROAD vs. St. Louis

HOME vs. Minnesota

Anaheim

HOME vs. Dallas

ROAD vs. Phoenix

Nashville

HOME vs. Chicago

ROAD vs. Detroit

ROAD vs. Minnesota

St. Louis

ROAD vs. Phoenix

HOME vs. Columbus

ROAD vs. Colorado

Minnesota

HOME vs. Dallas

HOME vs. Nashville

ROAD vs. Columbus

Edmonton

HOME vs. Los Angeles

HOME vs. Calgary

ROAD vs. Calgary

Looks like the Ducks. They have two pretty easy games and the Jackets should be able to get 3 pts from their remaining games. Crazier things have happened but Anaheim is the most likely first-round matchup. Unfortunately.

I would want Nashville or St. Louis. Columbus dropping 2 of their last 3 would be nice, adds them into the mix. I don't know. First round bye anyone?

I would like to avoid Columbus, Preds, and Ducks in the 1st round... Come on St. Louis...

All teams that we are most likely to face. Sucks big time. St. Louis would be cool. Some nice old time central division action.

I just don't want the Ducks because of the travel. I think St. Louis would be the most favourable matchup for us but if we really should be beating these teams anyway. If we can't then we never deserved a sniff of the Cup in the first place. Simple as that.

If I could choose a team of all of these I would choose Columbus. First appearance in the playoff's will make them nervous. Nashville makes me nervous only because with so many appearances they have to beat us eventually and this would be the year. Anahiem because of the travel I would like to avoid. I think we could beat them but it would wear us done for our next opponent which could likely be the Flames.
