Mike 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 Update from Friday's practice: This comes as no surprise, but Wings coach Mike Babcock made it official by saying Chris Osgood will be his starting goaltender in the playoffs. Osgood will start Sunday against Minnesota, as the Wing, who are pretty much locked into second place in the Western Conference, try to snap a three-game losing streak. Osgood has lost his last two starts and the team has lost the last three games that Osgood has started. His last win was March 20 in Atlanta. Forward Tomas Kopecky did not practice due to a shoulder injury and Babcock said he won't play Sunday. Kopecky said he hurt his right shoulder late in Thursday's 5-4 loss to the Blues on a hit from David Backes (as if he didn't enough damage). He doesn't believe it's serious, though, and said he might skate on Saturday. MLive

uk_redwing 495 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 *shakes head* If the wings make it past the first two rounds I'll be very surprised. That said, with our goaltending the way it is at the moment, Babs has just chosen the best of the bad.
Guest mindfly Report post Posted April 3, 2009 (edited) I guess they go with playoff experience, fair enough, since conklin failed to take over the no.1 spot they go with osgood... time will tell if he really is the playoff goalie he can be in alot of playoffs... lets go pavel 2 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 No surprise here. He'll no doubt be on a short leash, but hopefully Babs won't need it.

DatsMyWings13 4 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 Did anyone expect anything different? I fully expect the Wings to step things up in the playoffs and I think Ozzie can be solid enough to get the job done.

HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 He should start, and if by any chance he falters Ty should be put in right away. That being said, I of course am behind Ozzie 100% and think he'll be just fine! GO OZZIE!!!!!!
Z Winged Dangler 2,082 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 My guess is we'll see Conklin start the 3rd period of game 1 and the wings COME BACK to win game 1 in OT. Ozzy rides the pine Hasek style this year.
PROBIE4PREZ 58 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 I totally agree with Hockeycrazy ... just keep Ozzie on a short leash like Babcock did with Hasek last playoffs .. worked out fine xD
Casey 145 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 Logo on the front, not the name on the back. Go Wings.
Hockeytown Red Wings 245 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 Logo on the front, not the name on the back. Go Wings. Yep, no other choice. And right now it doesn't seem to matter who plays goal.
TheOwl 77 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 It would be very unsurprising if Osgood plays mediocre in Game 1-2 and still wins, but loses Game 3-4. As long as Babcock makes the change to Conklin sooner then later if needed, no reason to worry.
Mors 201 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 Not to start a s***storm of debate or anything...but can we stop with the Kopecky yet? (-9 in the last 9 games I believe including -2 last night). Come playoff time it certainly seems justifiable to give Helm & Leino some opportunities.
HOCKEY MATTERS 167 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 The entire D sucks right now. Babs should line them all up, turn around, drop em, and have Oz and Conks give them a little red-ass with the goalie sticks. Paddle their bottoms for stinkin up the rink. That should fix em. Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 Agreed on Kopecky. He got hot and was good for about a half dozen games and hasn't done anything since.

Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 Good news on both fronts. Kopecky finds a way to get hurt at the worse times, and I dont have a problem with it! Leino and Helm need some playing time.
T-Ruff 47 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 I remain opitmisitc that the team will start playing 100% when the playoffs roll around and guys like Helm and Leino and Rafalski get back in the lineup good luck Osgood
