I saw that too. Don't know what to really think of it. Well, at least she's Canadian, so she probably knows something about the game. Look on the bright side, if things were to get bad enough in Montreal, they'd have an in house national anthem singer.

no kidding, it would have been a good one.

Something tells me they are more interested in acquiring the Bell Center, and the concert promotion division

than the hockey team.

While that's possible, I'd look at it more along the lines of a pure business decision made by a proud french-Canadian. Dion is from Quebec, so there's the motivation she'd need to partially invest in the Canadians. Don't forget that it wouldn't be a love-affair type of purchase- the Canadians make s***-tons of money and the Bell Centre venue/events ownership is a cash cow too. Add to that the fact that everyone else she's teaming up with is also Quebecois and you have pretty reasonable motivation.

I'd rather see a person buy the team than a pension plan or investment firm. Those types have to inherently be all about marginal returns on theri investments and such, and that can easily come at the expense of putting a good team on the ice.

And it kind of makes sense for a notable singer with her current business interests to buy one of the biggest and potentially profitable concert venues in Canada. I assume her family would run the concerts and other events division at Bell and have a fairly hands off approach to the hockey side of things.

The worst of it probably would be fans getting stuck with the Celine versions of the anthems before every game. (Yeah, I've heard the Whitney version of the US anthem enough at this point to have gotten dick of it 10+ years back)

If Gillett decides to sell of some or all of his team ownerships, this might be the one that involves the highest selling price.

They wouldn't move them to Las Vegas, would they?

Celine Dion is from Quebec, and she's a smart enough businesswoman to know better than that, even if they did somehow get permission to move the team (which has a .00000001% chance of happening).

That was my first thought. It was just a silly one, though, as I knew she was Canadian.

What YG1340 said as well.
