Hitchcock says Wings' wingers cheat on face-offs

I kinda see it that way too. from being in Columbus and listening to the guy, I kinda wonder if he means "cheating" like he wishes his guys were doing it that way too.

Sure as hell if the CBJ got away with it he wouldn't be complaining.

Hitch has been too consistent a coach to get completely crazy after one playoff game with Columbus. this isn't Bob Hartley here or Michele Therrien.

"I wish my guys were that good at nearly doing it illegally!!"

Hey Hey Ken, Hey

Maybe the reason you lost is NOT because two pucks bounced off your own guys, maybe the Wings DID NOT CHEAT.

Hey Ken, Hey. Focus on getting more than 7 shots in 50 minutes next time and maybe you can win.

From,

A smarter, less bitchy Ken.

Have a great day *******!

PS I find it hilarious that within the last year the only reason teams can come up with as to why they lose to the Wings is that Detroit cheats...

Hitch's just stirring the pot, "playing the game between the games."

Exactly, he's just trying to get some calls on the faceoffs to help his team out. It's no different than opposing coaches bitching about goaltender intererence when there isn't any, and then we get 3 goals called back the next game ... and yes, that will probably be Hitch's next complaint.

My question is, what the hell does this mean:

"I don’t think Detroit can do anything in drag racing, because they would never pass the Christmas tree test," Hitchcock said.

Something akin to that.

He's not just playing the game against the Wings, he's playing the refs too and Babs does it as well in the actual game, but he hasn't done it in public like this (is Yet the right finisher for this sentence?).....

At first I thought it was just desperate whining. But then I realized he's trying to get the officials to scrutinize the Wings more, and maybe throw them off. But he'd better be careful what he wishes for. Maybe someone will suggest to the officials that they look at little harder at the abuse Homer is taking in front of their net...

If they cheat why do teams wait until the playoffs to say something?

Well if we cheat it is because we have to make up for the different rules for Homer. How many times does he get, whacked, slashed, tripped and interferred with each game?

Best point made in this thread.

We play the same style 82 games a year and nobody says anything, we whip some ass in the playoffs and we are obstructing faceoff jumping cheaters.

Starting lights in drag racing are called Christmas trees because of the shape and colors. (Red, green and yellow)

If you go before the green light turns on you are disqualified. (Red-lighted)

It's OK if Hitch is the only one to complain about it. NHL will not give too much notice, other then the fact he's complaining about the Wings.

If Crosby and Company complain we're in deep dodo. Last year their obstruction complaints bore fruit the rest of the series AND into this season. A big part of the reduced effectiveness of our defense IMHO.

That's a massive leap of logic. Therrien complaining about the Wings in the Finals is what caused the Wings' team GAA and PK% to drop like a rock over 82 games, three months after the fact? Nonsense.

and so the attempts to get pitty calls from the refs begin, you think that fat motherf***er would be happy after all the 1st period calls against the Wings. Hell maybe we can play the whole game on the pk

If they were blowing the Wings for everything during the 1st period, how many times was Homer hit with a stick or knocked down?

Near the end of the game when Helm got the holding penalty, why didn't Nash get called for holding the stick? He was knocked to the ice and he held the stick of the Wing who hit him (don't recall the player).

Who cares though!! We won and all the question marks for the team did not disappoint in game #1!!

Oh yeah, Coach Hitchcock, take this:

"If horse racing is the sport of kings, then drag racing must be the sport of queens".

one thing is for sure hitchcock could own anyone on the Wings in an eating contest

Dude's got some serious medical reasons behind his weight. As much as I hate what he said and think he's being a stupid ass whiner, the article I read about his weight certainly made me feel for him a bit.

We should probably lay off the weight comments, 'cause we're just going to look like classless fools. (Not that you are, I'm just assuming you don't know the story. But a Blue Jackets fan posted it in a thread here.)

Ahhh, thank you! It sounded too bizarre to not mean something, but I didn't have a clue what it was.

No $H!T. Homer was on his face more than on his skates in front of the crease.

Maybe so. I don't see it as a massive leap or nonsense. Last season, just like many before, we were able to stop opponents as they came into the zone. This often led to turnovers. They never had the opportunity to place shots on goal in the first place. I'm pretty sure shots on goal were higher this year with the same defense as last year.

As I recall there were far more interference calls at the beginning of this years' regular season. It took the players quite a while to get used to it. It continued at a lesser degree until around the last two weeks of the season when they were allowed to play a little more. No doubt because of the tight races for playoff spots.

Even if this were true, you think Michel Therrien crying during an SCF press conference was the impetus for the crackdown? This is what you indicated above.

In any event, the Wings took less minor penalties this year than last year. The primary reason for the Wings' troubles on defense was absolutely the Stanley Cup hangover.
