The Ducks

To win the cup the Wings will need to keep playing like they have been, regardless of who they play. I think hoping for a certain opponent if anything is bad luck. Ducks are playing damn good right now, and whether they win and we play them or play the Canucks, the team is going to be tough to beat and have plenty of travel to worry about. We still have two wins left in this series, lets focus on that.

Maybe we underestimated the Ducks. Maybe they are last year's Dallas (doing our dirty work for us in the playoffs till we eliminate them). Either way, let's hope for a game 7 (or at least a game 5...). I think the Ducks can definately win the series, but don't count out the Sharks. And if the Sharks do end up winning this series after being down 2-0 at home, you know they will come out fired up and that will make them even more scary.

The ducks just got lucky and drew the annual chokers in the Playoffs... Everyone is sooooo scared by what the Guppies do in the regular season then they fizzle out with a small little "poof" in the post season.

The Sharks are to the Western conference what the Senators are to the Eastern Conference.

??QUE??? what in the hell is with me putting in random quotes!

That is such a great analogy I expect to see it on the SATs, well if the SATs even matter any more!

These playoffs are further proof that picking your poison is GOOD.

There's a reason many here were afraid to play Anaheim and would rather play Columbus or St. Louis in the first round. I guess we now know why. The Ducks are a scary team when the play up to their potential. That first line looked amazing for them last night. They put on a clinic of cycling around the Sharks' net.

We haven't beaten Columbus yet, so I'm not even thinking about Round 2, other than: Don't pick your poison.

From reading this forum the last couple of days, I assumed that we already had. Are you telling me that Columbus is actually willing to play some more?

Anyone else thinkin what I'm thinkin? It seems we really lucked out for once. No east to west travel.. But also the way the Ducks are playing against the Sharks right now. Are the Sharks just choking again, or are the Ducks the team to beat? Either way, I'm glad we got the BJs right now. I'm not saying our series is locked up either, but I'm thinking it's looking pretty good.

The ONLY, repeat ONLY thing us Wings fans need to be concerned with now is beating down the BlueJackets sooo badly that they move to Cleveland. Games 1 and 2 were too easy, we looked wayyyyy too dominating, Columbus looked like its only excuse for defense was to collapse on the goal and let our guys play pinball from 25 feet out. All I want is to see the Jackets crushed in game three. Period.

Scary like last year after coming back and beating Calgary in game 7 in the first round? ;)

I was perusing the Sharks board this morning and there are some over there that blame this mess on the Blues for winning their last game of the season.

Oh and a few think it's Emilio Estevez that caused it :looney: .

If the Wings lose their #2 and #3 defenders to injury again, I think the Ducks would have a chance to beat them again, but other than that the Wings should steamroll them.

Moen and Pahlsson were beasts in the Ducks' playoff run in '07. Both are gone now. McDonald and Kunitz are gone now as well, and there is no doubt in my mind the Wings can handle any one-line team in the league -- even if it was a line of Ovechkin, Crosby and Malkin. The Wings defense, playing to its potential, is still a hell of a lot better than San Jose's and especially when you factor in the defense of Detroit's forwards.

The only teams I feel are capable of beating this current Wings team are teams like Boston and San Jose - that can roll line after line of offensive players, still have a capable defense and have a hot goalie - all at the same time. Obviously I think any team is going to have their hands full with the Wings this year.

Great post. This is a huge reason why I'm not as worried about the Ducks as most of you--their big shutdown line (R. Niedermayer-Pahlsson-Moen) was so key for them in '07, and it no longer exists. They also don't have quite the same depth on the blueline as they did then, IMO.

I might be inviting trouble/bad karma with this, but even as well as Hiller's playing, I'd rather face him than the Giguere of 2003 or 2007.

I also have 100% confidence that the Wings win a best-on-best matchup with any team in the league.

Well said, I think a lot of people confuse getting beat up and not having 2 of your top 3 D-men and the Power play sucking hind ***, the only beating they handed out was Homer and the series.
