how can a winged-wheel fan not be concerned after this Game 4? The defense took parts of the night off and Ozzie, well, kinda stunk.

I wouldn't be too worried about it. The Wings were going to win this series, no doubt about that. Every team has a night off. The Ducks have been dominating the Sharks but the Sharks got a win in Game #3.

Barring some miracle, it looks like the Wings are going to be playing the Ducks in the second round. It's payback time.

I'm concerned that Ozzie might be hurt, but the game itself wasn't a big deal. I've seen shootout playoff games before. The Wings were totally dominant and assertive for three games, and this was just kind of a wild one.

Exactly, they dominated for 3 games. Game four is obviously going to be Columbus playings its best and Detroit maybe letting off a bit. Plus ozzie did look bothered in that second period i hope he rests up well now with this sweep. They will be fine. We can worry when they lose a game first

I think another big reason is that CBJ were throwing everything they had at the wings, as they were on the brink of elimination. If facing the fact of playing again or going home, I would go balls to the wall too.

If they win the SJ series...(can not forget that part) Wings will be tough... but I believe the ducks can take them they usually have better outcomes vs the wings in the playoffs then they do in reg season. And perry will make sure all of them get "it" Ducks can adjust from the Sharks to the wings. IF a duck-wings series happens I say ducks in 6.

Wings in 5 :)

Have a question duck guy and do not intend this to be rude.. was Giguere hurt this year or did he just not play well this season? Don't really follow the ducks and was just curious why Hiller is leading them now in net? I always thought his career would be over once the NHL hacked down the goalie equipment. But i could be wrong just wondered if he played bad this year or was hurt?

His play was bad got pulled multiple times... at first I thought maybe something was wrong with him injury wise... but he just had a off year hopefully he is better next year. Hiller on the other hand has been great. Reminds me of having Bryz on this team (a great #2 goalie) that is shinning in the playoffs. Ehhh.. I am pretty sure he can adjust his game if / when the NHL puts more restrictions on the pads. (they might have already i dun know haha)

Ducks-Wings would be a great series IMO, I'd take Detroit in 7..I see the winner cruising to the Finals vs. the Devs of course.

And from a Canucks fans point of view, nothing could be going better right now. Looks very much like Anaheim will eliminate San Jose, we'll be facing Chicago or Calgary, the Wings hopefully will eliminate Anaheim and providing we get through the winner of the Flames/Hawks, I think most of us would prefer to play the Wings.

I think the Wings overall are the best team in the league, but we play them tougher than the Sharks or Ducks. Also, we have an extended period of time off to heal wounds. Things are falling into place for the Canucks very well right now.

It'll be interesting to see how Babcock tries to matchup with Anaheim top line right now. In the past we'd put our checking line against another team's top line, but right now we don't really have a checking line, because our 4th line sure as hell wouldn't be matched up against that top line.

Also, I'd love to see Vancouver and Calgary go at it in the playoffs. Those teams hate each other and would provide a wonderful series.

I'm thinking both the Flames and Hawks would be a nasty series. Last time we played the Hawks it was an incredibly dirty and emotional game (we won 4-0). It even featured a good old-fashioned line brawl. I think I'd prefer to play the Flames though. We beat them 4-2 in the season series (I think we beat Chicago too) and they've really sputtered the last few months. Having said that, I think they'd play us well though, so Godammit I don't know what I'm saying anymore. :hehe:

I'm just glad we're going to be well-rested and they're still beating the crap out of eachother.

If Anaheim faces Detroit in the 2nd Round, that may be the best hockey we'll see all year. Usually the WCF is the most entertaining series, but this year it might be pushed up a bit.

In all honesty, ANaheim has been playing really well, so has Detroit. Both teams are playing physical, and Anaheim probably poses the greatest threat to Detroit right now, especially considering the history of goonage, bad calls, etc. Both teams are on a mission this year and won't let up.

Plus, Anaheim might think because they beat San Jose they can beat anyone, and forget that by and large Detroit is a better team than San Jose, regardless of the standings.

I was assuming his poor play was stemming from the loss of his father. His dad died on December 12 2008, since that time I do not think he has been the same. I am not knocking jijy, in fact I empathize. I imagine that when my father passes on I will have a hard time focusing on my work, and I do not need to concentrate as much as an NHL goalie.

He seems like a strong guy, and from what I have read it seems his family is strong. He will bounce back and play great. His career is far from over. He needs to get his confidence back, get the focus back, and start loving the game again.

But hey who knows I may be totally off base since I do not know the guy, but I want to see him back as a top goalie again. The big question is whether it will be with the Ducks or with another organization. They dumped Bryz in favor of Jijy, will they do the same with hiller? They should be able to trade for some good players in this off season no matter who they keep. (Yes they could keep both but why not get some more scoring).

If they were to trade jijy, he is earning something like $6 million per year so he would not be sent to a team close to the salary cap. It would be cool to see him in some of the struggling markets. He could turn a teams fortunes around.

Yeupp. Offhand and so far, I'd say the Wings at least know what the hell to do when they're on a power play.

I like our odds either way...

Osgood's stats vs. Anaheim are (including playoffs):

18-3-1-2 (4-1-1 since 2006)

Stats vs. Vancouver (including playoffs):

20-8-2-4 - no regulation losses in last 6 (4-0-2)

That's gotta do something to the other team to know the opposing GT is padding his stats vs. your team.

Or, looking at it from a Vancouver point of view -- this season went 2-2-0. Victories go in the win column in the standings. It's only loser points that are listed in the loser column for the loser.

Add to that that Vancouver is not the same team that Detroit faced early in the season, (all games were in 2008).

We just obliterated the calder trophy front runner in a series most analysts thought would go to 6 games just due to the regular season scores.

Vancouver is doomed, all just a matter of who pulls the trigger.

And I absolutely love hearing that.

And you may recall a series we just finished that most experts also picked would go about 6 games.

Personally, I would like to play the Ducks in the next round, mainly because that would mean they took care of the Sharks for us. Either way, we're going to have a much more competitve series than the first round. No direct disrespect to Columbus, but making your first ever playoff in franchise history and having to go up against the defending champs is no picnic, and they were clearly overwhelmed until game 4, but by then it was too late. I like our chances against the Ducks better because, despite showing flashes of dominance against the Sharks, they have not looked consistent. We are deeper, we can throw 2 Selke-caliber centers against the Getzlaf line, and Hiller's leash mey be getting shorter by the shot. If we play Vancouver, we match up well, but Luongo frightens me, and if he gets hot, it could spell trouble. There's also the vengeance factor that makes me want to play the Ducks next, just picturing Kronwall or Stuart putting on a hit parade against their goons makes me warm and fuzzy all over. As for the other matchup, I'd kind of like to see Calgary come out of that series, that way while we're playing the Ducks, there is a matchup of 2 Canadian teams, I'd like to keep the Canadian fans involved, having 2 of 3 teams advance should make up for the fact that yet again the Cup will be spending the summer in the US (and Sweden). Bring on the next victim.

To all 'nucks fans here on the forum:

Good luck.

You can play the underdog card all you want, but seriously... you're going to need a sh*t-ton of luck.

Luongo's great... and... that's about it.
