stormboy 47 Report post Posted May 1, 2009 There's no reason to be pissed off about it. The only ones that state it created controversy are the ones the don't understand that that call *had* to be made. This wasn't a case of a player hopping onto the ice while the player he was replacing was a good 15-or-so feet away from the bench. Bottom line, he touched the puck....end of controversy. Anything else is just whining and grasping at straws. no, i agree with you. it shouldn't piss me off. but for some reason, i can't just be content knowing that. i want everyone else to admit it, too. *shrug* i mean, at the end of the day it doesn't really matter. just the way i feel. cusimano_brothers 1,655 Report post Posted May 1, 2009 How did Hitchcock make out with his whining? Carlyle must already be thinking about how his penalty-kill units are going to be exhausted in a very, very short time.
therock48880 14 Report post Posted May 1, 2009 I'm not really sure what some people are talking about. There aren't many (possibly any) coaches who skate and work their players harder than Babcock does. Just because he's calm and cool with the press doesn't mean he's not a hard %#$ at practice. Don't forget that as soon as the Ducks started losing, players tuned him out and he was fired. I don't see that happening in Detroit for quite some time due to the talent level, which means they will continue winning. However, if they were somehow to become a .500 team, players' attitudes toward him would be vastly different than they are now.

He wanted a longer-term deal than the one-year offer he was tendered, and when Burke wouldn't offer that, he left. Turned out to be the best decision he's probably ever made. He left for a team that was receptive to his work ethic.
Systemfel 33 Report post Posted May 1, 2009 "Holmstrom at times gets away with a lot more than most players do," Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said. "He's probably the guy that has the most penalties called against him for goaltender interference."Contradict yourself much? Homer doesn't get away with s***, and every Wings fan knows it. If he breathes on a goalie, he's off to the box.
egroen 384 Report post Posted May 1, 2009 Sidenote: Carlyle says "Holmstrom at times gets away with a lot more than most players do" yet he continues on by saying "He's probably the guy that has the most penalties called against him for goaltender interference". That makes sense, you say he's gets away with more than anyone yet he's probably got the most penalties called against him for goaltender interference. :looney: I'm picturing Holmstrom as this lurching, 7'0 goon who's only purpose in hockey is to physically assualt goalies every moment he is on the ice, the way Carlyle is talking about him. Stormboy: again, very true. and i think you're analogy is actually quite accurate; it's pretty common to human nature to point out in others what you yourself are doing wrong. e.g. the person who steals from work is going to be very on the lookout for others who steal because if they can shift the focus on to someone else, they're more likely to get away with it themselves. if the refs are watching the back of homer's skates and starring at his ass, they're going to miss all the abuse he takes from pronger et. al. Or perhaps redefine goalie interference as "standing in front of the crease" vs. the actual "running of the goalie" Aneheim employs, with players like Parros and Perry. Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted May 1, 2009 Kopecky cant even skate well enough to get to the net, I think you meant Cleary as the 3rd man, Randy. No big deal, I cant believe what f***in whiners NHL head coaches are, what a frickin joke, they should quit while their behind. I`ve heard Babs whine once in 3 years here, these coaches whine once per media session.
Yzermaynard 1 Report post Posted May 1, 2009 So, for those keeping a tally: ~We're obstructionists ~We cheat at faceoffs ~Homer, Mule and Koko (lol) are goalie interference masters ~We're cheating cheaters who cheat Am I leaving anything out? You forgot that we render the ice completely unplayable by covering it with cephalopod carcasses.
Guest bobbyryan Report post Posted May 1, 2009 You Reds should know the difference between dirty play and cheating by now. We're dirty. You cheat. Interference is cheating.

Heh, I love how the small, skilled, soft euros are cheating by getting in the way of the big, tough, dirty Ducks. SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted May 1, 2009 I'm not one to have conspiracy theories on the refs or blame them for Wings losses, but to say Tomas Holmstrom gets away with a lot around the crease when he's gotten some ridiculous shafts/no-goals against him is pretty laughable. Mors 201 Report post Posted May 2, 2009 Carlyle sounds like an idiot, he leads his goon squad into the playoffs, and then accuses what is arguably the cleanest team in the league of getting away with cheap shots? Has Gretzky been giving out "Bitching & Moaning" classes for select coaches?
