Ericsson Vs. Perry

While this was miles away from Fischer vs. Hartnell, I was glad no bombs where unleashed by Big E as I'd rather not see him cut up his hands on that pansy's visor. It was still great to see that coward Fairy throw a punch once in the loving embrace of the refs was upon him, of course he then gets punched right back and rag-dolled all by a visor-less euro, while he was likely to busy trying to keep his underwear clean to remove his.

Big E should've destroyed Perry in that fight. I want Perry unable to get up! Keep in mind folks, just as Babcock said, the top line's forwards are about as long as the list goes with regard to Big E fighting (in other words, DON'T FIGHT PARROS!)

So far so good Rig!

Mark my words, write it down.

Ericsson will never play another game in GR. He's going to be a Wing for a very long time- he plays their game well already, and he's tasted blood!

Really going out on a limb there.

I can't believe this guy was the last pick in his draft year. How the hell could anyone pass over a 6'5" defenceman with skills. Unless he just took a very long time to develop in GR, he is already 25.

Ericcson is going to be great on the Wings for many years to come.

The funny thing about all this is how I've been telling all my friends how worried I was to play the Ducks. I didn't like the way we matched up against them as they play a "dirty" brand of hockey and I was worried that we would be dragged into their game and would not be able to match their physicality.

I thought that the only way to win this series was to not try and get into a battle with them because I don't think we would win the physical battle (Very much like the last time we played them). I thought we would have to continue to play our puck possesion game and kill them with our PP.

How surprised was I when we outhit them all through game 1 and GOT INTO A FIGHT!!! Something I thought I would never see out of this Red Wings team.

I must say that guys like Datsyuk, Franzen and others have really picked up their physical games over the last couple years and definitely not be the shadows that they were when they were receiving the criticism for in past years.

Thats not a good angle of the fight. The one Versus had is better, because Ericsson got a good shot in right after he rag dolled Perry to the ground.

If you watch to the end of the clip, the replay they showed of the fight shows a better angle that Ericcson really popped him a couple of good ones. I liked Babcock in the press conference that he's against fighting, and he's fine with wailing on the Ducks. I agree, I generally hate fighting, but the Ducks are dirty and if you take it they will get worse. If they want to fight the Wings on their stereotypical reputation, fine, and they can expect real fists in return.

This may seem like a wahld and crezzy idea, but what if Babcock put Ericsson in deliberately? Because he at least sensed that Ericsson could be an equal to Perry and knew that the a-hole would try to start something, especially after the whistle?

Yeah, it doesn't explain why Rafalski didn't at least play on the second line (if he was able) but I kinda like the idea and as it turns out, it was a brilliant move. Perry would have killed Rafalski, mainly because of the size difference and because Perry times his cheapshots so he gets the off-guard advantage.

to expand on that, he said hes ok with a short list of people to fight on anaheim- perry, getzlaf, and ryan. ericcson did good by taking perry out for 7 minutes.

Because we're the only team that saw him play as a defenseman. He was a forward when Hakan happened to see him play a game on D. His team was decimated by the flu and his coach asked him if he could cover, and being a defensive center it wasn't much of a stretch. Even after getting drafted the first time he was allowed to play D full time was when he came over to Grand Rapids. Over in Sweden he was constantly bouncing in and out of the lineup and from forward to defense and back again depending on need. That he's come this far in essentially 3 years of learning the position is amazing.

Partly to do with development, btu partly to do with the fact that he's in the Wings' system and our defence corps is very deep.

That's a very crazy idea... Firstly, why would he take out Rafalski instead of Lebda? Rafalski is key to our PP. Secondly, while Perry would probably have beaten Rafalski in a fight doesn't mean that Rafalski would have fought Perry and lost.

I like how Babcock gave him a shortlist of opponents, would it be worth adding Pronger to that list? Don't get me wrong, unlike some people here I don't think he's going to be 'the next Probert' or anything, and I don't like seeing him fight all that much - our d-corps is in trouble as it is, he shouldn't be in the box all the time, and he had a hand/wrist injury not too long ago. But I think that Ericsson in the box with Pronger for 5 minutes (sorry that sounds kind of sexual in a wrong way) would be a good trade. But nowhere near as good as Kopecky vs. Pronger/Getzlaf/Perry/Ryan would be...

Of course not. European's can't fight, so any altercation involving Jonathan Ericsson can be known a priori to have not been a fight, which means they don't even need to look at a highlight.
