Holmstrom96 347 Report post Posted May 2, 2009 TSN Ice Chips I think it was the right call. Hudler had his head down. The Ducks received a major penalty and Brown was ejected, nothing else is necessary, IMHO. I thought a 1 to 3 game suspension would have been appropriate. This sends the signal to the goons that it's ok to elbow someone in the head. I'm dissapointed. Well, look at the bright side, at least the refs in the game made the right call and gave him a match penalty which we scored a goal on.

We can sit and argue about whether it should have been a suspension or not. Instead we should look forward to Game #2 and hope that the Wings can go up 2 on the Ducks. commadore183 103 Report post Posted May 2, 2009 With they way the NHL has been saying that they want to crack down on hits to the head and such, I would have thought they would have suspended Brown for at least one game. That much I feel is deserved, but lo and behold, the NHL is consistent in their inconsistency. What a surprise. Oh well, I don't like the decision, but at least Cluckles wasn't knocked out of the rest of the game/playoffs, though, so I guess that's one positive I can take from this. Let's finish the Ducks quickly, before they hurt any more of our players.
Vincanni 1 Report post Posted May 2, 2009 Brown's a nobody and already missed game 1 with the ejection so I don't care about this too much. Just hope this doesn't serve as a distraction for the Wings who need ot focus on winning not getting retribution for some scrub who'll have next to no major impact on the game. Even though it might not have been Brown's intention to follow through with the stick and cut Hudler on a questionably late hit, I was pretty sure a suspension was coming just because of how the leagues been dealing with thing so far in the playoff. Jersey Wing 1,521 Report post Posted May 2, 2009 Maybe in some small way his mere presence on the ice tomorrow will drive the Wings just that much harder. I love the Wings vs Bettman meme that also seems to spur them on. You know they know about it, Babcock asked if the Wings were even on TV in the first round, Osgood made mention of that ridonculous NHL Center Ice ad where it's nothing but Penguins highlights like they somehow won last year. One more reason to pick yourself up off the ice and play harder..
MTU_Huskies963 398 Report post Posted May 2, 2009 Lol you guys have to head over to the Ducks board and read up just pure comedy. They really think the league is out to get them.
alowicious 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2009 Unless I am seeing something that is not there, it sure looks like Brown gets his stick up into Happy's face. If that is the case, he was clearly trying to injure. I am ok with the punishments that were delt out because Jiri was able to play in the 2nd. However, I hope the lenient penalty doesn't open the doorway for even worse things to come.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted May 2, 2009 Someone on our team should run him into the boards (Kopecky). And no I don't care if that's not our style. The hell with our style. Brown has to pay or else him or someone else will do the same thing again.

And why do you think the league is against the Wings?? Because you get penalties? Many sportcasters (not in CA) agree that the league treats this like the 2007/2008 Ducks. The Red Wings bring the NHL HUGE RATINGS! There is no reason to think they are against them. I mean give a actual example of how the league hates the Red Wings. Because they suspended 2 guys for not attending the all-star break?

Redline 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2009 The hit didn't deserve a suspension. The major and game Brown served was penalty enough. Hudler, the rest of the Wings, keep your heads up, it's still a rough game at times despite what Mario and Bettman morphed it into.

True but they are over there complaining about our Euro players calling out franzen saying the league should do something about what he did. I even read somewhere that because he did not get suspended the ducks should protest about the game misconduct he received.

henrik40 76 Report post Posted May 2, 2009 First off, watch the replay and look where the gash was. I'm not sure what cut him but it wasn't his visor since the cut was above his left eye. Secondly, he didn't have his head down. He was looking the other way to see where his dump/pass to Fil was going so he knew where his next play was: either to the offensive zone or get ready to play defense against the rush that would be coming. Totally different from having your head down. Lastly, I'm pissed but not surprised there was no suspension. Whatever.

Hossa7.4 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2009 The Red Wings bring the NHL HUGE RATINGS! There is no reason to think they are against them. the tv schedule in the first round, it's not like we're the defending champs or anything. it's marketing, despite the fact the 1.5million can show up for a parade in Detroit and 18,000 for an arena parking lot cup celebration when the arena parking lot team wins there is new-found excitment, t-shirts, jersey sales and merchandise goes way up, (it's always strong in hockey hot-beds like Detroit) and there is increase season ticket purchases for next year, and the chance that the hockey market in Carolina or Anaheim will grow. (which it won't see: Carolina) after a year or so the stanley cup fever will die down like in Carolina but there's just a chance that it could turn the market around. the wings have been great for 15 years at least, this is in stark contrast to the "everybody can win the cup, rotate the championship every year, salary cap , socialised world" or professional (north) american sports. the league hates that the wings are successful, they are a guaranteed market and the West's cash cow already, carolina, anaheim, phoenix, nashville aren't. it's really quite simple. henrik40 76 Report post Posted May 2, 2009 (edited) Honestly, I think the reason for the poor tv schedule in the first round for the Wings was more because they were playing the Blue Jackets and the NHL probably though that it wasn't going to draw much in the way of ratings. edit: I bet the tv schedule would have been much different if the Wings had played the ducks in the first round and the sharks had played the Jackets. Probably wouldn't have seen much of the Sharks on tv. Edited May 2, 2009 by henrik40
j.hoop 64 Report post Posted May 2, 2009 just goes to show how much of a joke the league is with "protecting their players from headshots", at the very least, i hope this makes brown a very big target for a kronvall krush, ericcson elimination, or stuart slaughter
Hossa7.4 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2009 I agree with you 100% because a guy "has his head down" he deserves to get a blow to the head. let's eliminate boarding, I'm mean, you gotta be aware out there, put your head on a swivel, right? geesh, this is hockey mentality from the 1970's, esp. considering we're on a red wing forum and we've got the most skilled team in the league. I'm really surprised at the reaction. you prob. like the fact that the game is called different in the PO's or 3rd period than the rest of the year. maybe the NFL should stop calling holding in the 4th Qtr of games so the refs don't "influence" the outcome of the game.
