To sum up the first period, we played terribly. In my opinion, the referees actually made a few calls in our favor, yet we squandered our powerplay opportunities and we've continued to struggle even strength.

Also, we can't win a series when our superstars don't play like our superstars; Getzlaf is doing it, Ovechkin is doing it, Crosby is doing it, the Sedins are doing it, but Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Hossa haven't stepped up. Osgood can keep us in the game, but he can't score the goals for us.

We have to break their smothering defense, get some traffic in Hiller's face, and shut down their top line. We can beat this team; with the talent we have, this series should not be as close as it has been. C'mon guys, wake the hell up.

Sure, spin the story any way you want it.

Any way I want it? I'm pretty sure there's quite a number of people here who agree with me -- because it's a dead-obvious point. This team is ******* APATHETIC right now, not intimidated. If this team were intimidated, Dats wouldn't have run Marchant.

You're a broken record.

Have I mentioned just how much I hate the ducks? And how furious I am that the Wings are playing so far below their potential right now? Geez....

Make me being miserable at work tomorrow worth it guys!!!

I literally started getting cramps in my middle fingers from giving the bird to the Ducks in the first period. 'Course my voice is going now too, but husband went to bed so now I gotta try to cool it. :flamingmad:

If the Wings decide to actually show some intensity out there instead of waiting for pucks to come to them, reaching with their sticks or waiting far too long to convert on chances.... things might be a bit different.

What I'm seeing out there is a Red Wings team that's tentative and not willing to match the Ducks' determination and intensity level at the moment. If there's a loose puck it's a Duck flying in to go after it. The Detroit player waits for it to come to him.

It's a shoulda-woulda-coulda, but Detroit could've easily had a 2-0 lead on Datsyuk's chance out front (before allowing Wisniewski to get back) and Samuelsson's interception.

No. Killer. Instinct.

Put ZDH back together, this line was so dominate offensively and defensively last years playoffs. And now they are struggling, put them together and see if that won't get them going.

Sorry for rant, just throwing my 2 cents out there. We need to get our stars going.

The soft Euros had a tough 4th line all season last year to back them up and to set a tempo for them. This year they don't.

Now it seems to have caught up with them, unless they actually prove me wrong and start taking it to Anaheim physically.

hahah who was there tough 4th line last year? we didnt even play a physical team last year. we lost drake. datsyuk and kronwall were 2 of our leading hitters last year. the wings r hitting they just arent seein the ice well. they cant find each oither. every team has games like this. its nothin to get pissed off about and criticize our players.

In the playoffs you only get a few games to fix it, or else you're eliminated.

This is where coaching has to take over and right now Babcock isn't doing a good enough job of it.

The line changes need to be made now. These combos aren't working.

I agree. For the life of me, I can't figure out why HELM isn't playing with DATSYUK and HOSSA. Holmstrom is NOT Franzen. His 5 on 5 value is extremely small. The guy has a roll on the PP, but please, get Holmstrom down on the 4th line where he belongs and give Hossa and Datsyuk some much needed speed.

The Wings didn't get to where they are by making panicky changes after one game.

You're right. They got to where they are now by NOT making changes to a top line that boasts a Hart trophy nominee with 3 points in nearly 9 playoff games and a superstar winger averaging less than a point every 2 games.

Check that. The Wings have played the equivalent of 9 games right now.

Our top line has been flacid in nearly every game.

If Downey was in the lineup, he would have had a natural hat trick in the 1st, broken up Selanne's break away, killed Pronger in hand-to-hand combat, and banged both of the Neidermeyer's wives. Of course, we' still be down 1.

The wings need to shoot the puck on Hiller more often. instead of trying to make a fancy play happen. its not going to work with the Ducks.

They also need to have a trailing guy coming up the ice, shoot it to him if possible and deflect that mother into the goal. Other than the traffic/screens, that is....

And here I thought I was the only one that was tired. Apparently the whole Wings team is waiting for an alarm clock to go off to wake their asses up. Did Z even win ONE faceoff that period? He's certainly not looking healthy to my eyes. Pavs is still dishing out the hits, but I think he's starting to grip the stick too tight after being o-fer in the series so far. "The Invisibles" in this series are too many to name. Ozzie showed up for this game, but few others have... at least in the first period. Offense is anemic, at best. The power play had little if any "power" in it at all. Babcock needs to work some magic here. I'm not panicking here, but I am thoroughly disheartened to see this play. And I agree... this is looking like 2006 all over again. If play like this continues, I may not remain awake for the whole game.

There's plenty of people who agree with me too.

Wings vs. Ducks looks like a broken record right about now.

What the f*** is going on? The Wings KNOW they need to shoot through the screen and what do they do? Dumb-ass unscreened shots like Lebda's.

The Ducks collapse around the net whenever the Wings get close. Great- let them. Fire screened shots through them all night- some will get through.

That's what I've been saying to myself as I've been beating my legs senseless with my "lucky" puck.

I've got bruises people.

The Wings are out hitting the ducks, yay.

They have sucked in every other aspect of the game.

Why not go back to our brand of hockey?

What do we have to lose?

As much as the hit numbers make some people drool, I think it's part of the problem. We're too intent on matching their physicality and not enough on playing our game.

40 to go...it has to start now.

The Wings have NO hustle. The Ducks are beating our D to almost every dump in, and we can't beat their D to our dump ins... Wings need to start skating and stop expecting Anaheim to give us one.

agreed, and they need to shoot to kill. I counted at least four misses tonight, and Pasha and Z among them. One shot on goal each, one miss each. Homer and Mule, no SOG.

I expect better in the next period (or two).

I certainly hope they don't hand Hiller a SHUT OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

shut out shut out shut out....
