Chicago Fans Complaing about Missed Calls

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

I recall 3 or 4 times where I was certain a penalty would be called against us and there was no call. We did get away with a few... Over a series, they will even out so there. I'm sure the home team (statistically proven) will get some calls or non-calls when the puck drops in Chumptown.

Call me an activist but it's the propaganda model. The reffiing has been biased and if you added up similar infractions between the two teams you would see a favor of one team over the other. It keeps the games close and the game exciting for the biggest demographic possible. I don't know about complaining too much now. Anaheim was the series to get upset about.

These are the five parts of the propaganda model:

Ownership of the medium

Medium's funding sources

Sourcing

Flak

Anti-communist ideology

Pittsburgh should have had way more calls. It's not that hard to believe when you consider what Don Cherry said about Ovechkin earlier this year compared to what happened to Avery for what he said. I believe calling upon deliberate injury to someone is far, far worse than insulting someone. And to a much larger audience no less.

I dont see how it's too many men when the people coming off and going on arent near the play and arent touching the puck.. Thats a typical line change when the puck isnt near you

Anytime that Nick Lidstrom takes 2 penalties in a game, I know the officiating is at the very best, slightly tilted in the other team's favor. He takes a legitimate penalty once every 10 games or so, but those calls on him last night were absolute garbage. Datsyuk, Hossa, and Zetterberg deal with plays like that from the opponent every shift. If they were to consistently call penalties like the ones the refs called on Lidstrom last night, then the Wings would be on a powerplay 55 of the 60 minutes.

Lidstrom's penalties were obvious and had to be called. When Rafalski was checked and had his stick broken we were in a really bad position so I don't blame Nick for taking that one either, but whether or not he takes many the refs definitely made the right call on those two.

IMO the refs have been making the right calls, but just missing a few but both teams have been getting lucky with it.

Oh, and PS, the Osgood holding penalty really was Chris' mistake.

"We liked the first round. We don't even know if TV covered us in the first round." -- Mike Babcock. Eh eh? Penalty calls were very equal in the first round.

I suppose bad calls are something you have to play through. We've seen it even in the Colorado rivalry but I think they have been particularly bad in the Anaheim series. Working the refs is part of the game today, I guess.

I thought in the first two periods, we had some terrible calls against us. However I felt we got away with a few in the third. The officiating has been bad both ways. I don't think it's a big deal that Hawks fans are complaining, since we do it after every loss too.

During the heat of battle during the game, I will cry Ref! I see so so so many missed calls on both sides but of course my biased side sees the missed calls on the Hawks even more. When you look at it from a totally outside view (because i've watched pretty much every game of the playoffs so far) the calls look even. Even then theres the occassional bulls*** call the refs miss. But if you are biased you're going to see it as your team being screwed, win or lose. The only time I really believe the calls were offsetting and horrible was that 7 game series we just made it out of.

Apart from that, they've been decently even. I still hate the way the games are called though. They call teams for chinsey hooks, phantom trips, etc but miss the most blatant of penalties. I'd rather they call the blatant ones, and let the ticky - tacky s*** go i mean c'mon, let the boys play.

I find it hilarious that some here are completely certain there's NO ref conspiracy even though a basketball ref was recently busted for fixing games. Impossible right?

Ya gotta like this...first interesting post.

But I'm sorry, the fans that complained in that case were homers anyway...

Yeah, it's annoying listening to some of the stuff the Hawk's fans are complaining about. They are actually all up in fits that Abdelkader "body slammed" Sharp near the bench last game, and how it's proof that the refs are in the Wings pocket.

Yet, if anyone actually SAW the play they'd have noticed that Abdelkader never did anything. Heck he didn't even take his hands off his stick while Sharp actually wrapped his left around around Abdelkader's back and his right arm around Abdelkader'd neck and dragged him to the ice. You can see the replay by playing the video on the left side of this TSN article http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=279287. It's around the 55 second mark.

It was textbook interference (doesn't get worse than this) by Chicago and the ref's looked the other way, but in many Hawk's fans eyes the Wings should have gotten a penalty on that play. :looney:

I wouldn't pay too much attention to the threads on the Hawks official boards. There are a large number of posters there these days that climbed onto the bandwagon within the last 6 months and their incessant bitching and moaning and their lack of game knowledge has driven many of the longtime fans to abandon the boards entirely (not that there aren't some knowledgeable fans in the new crop).

As a longtime Hawk Fan I can tell you that I have been pretty happy with this series. I am disappointed to see my team down 2-0, but few of the long-suffering fans expected this much from the Hawks this season. They have exceeded their goal and are gaining valuable experience against the best team in the league. While the officiating has been bad both ways, a continuation of the regular season, it hasn't impacted the games in this series. The young Hawks have given away many goals in this series on brain-farts that have little to do with their talent and everything to do with being less experienced and less focused. The Wings are just better right now than the Hawks at the overall game.

As long as the bad/missed calls GO BOTH WAYS it is hard to be upset. Consistency of suck is about the best you can hope for. I haven't noticed anything glaringly offensive either way, to be honest, and feel the series has been the best officiated of the three rounds we've been in. At least this series features two skilled teams playing hockey with a minimum of crap and no goonery, which is more than we could say for Calgary or Vancouver or you could say about Anaheim. Its nice to have a clean series where the teams actually play instead of trying to injure each other and where they stay classy rather than talk unwarranted crap to the media.

Good luck in the series...I'm sure the remainder will be just as entertaining as the beginning.

Great post all the way around. I especially agree with the highlighted parts, but all of it is more than acceptable and right on. :) I hope you come back and visit us more often.

WTF???

What the hell does any of this statement have to do with hockey??!!

Could we please all just work on sticking to good ol' masculine-type phraseology to describe a pro game that's played ONLY by men? How's about we just stick to big dicks, little dicks, no balls, lotsa balls, no guts, lotsa guts, goons, enforcers, WHATFRICKING EVER.

LGW's is under attack from s***cago fans.

http://boards.chicagoblackhawks.com/index....st&p=939696

Funny how their pathetic message board won't let Red Wings fans sign up, yet LGW's has open registry to everyone... even this troll.

Blah. You love the attention I am giving you. Just admit it.

I have nothing to do with the registration over there. Frankly I would love more of you RedWang fans on our forum (the other members probably not so much). The few Wang fans over there right now I find fun and they are decent folks. They also know how to have a few laughs.

But just because you are worried and I am sure you do not want to be left out. Your avatar has now been peed on aswell.......as it should be, it's a horrible avatar.

homem3.gifav-6842.jpg

All of those with Stevie Y avatars are safe. I wouldn't be able to find it in me to pee on Steve. Guys a legend in my books (and no not trying to suck up here).
