Firehawk 305 Report post Posted May 20, 2009 It's not saying much, but I think the refing in this series thus far has been 'better' than the anaheim series...but again, this isn't saying much. I don't know how in the hell Devorsky made it to the next round after calling Game 7 in our series the way he did. Dispicable.
Yak19 303 Report post Posted May 20, 2009 Calls were missed on both sides, This game was square going to OT, Sammy just stripped Campbell Soup of his clothes and then proceeded to join Flip and Rex in spraying graffiti on the Bulin Wall.
BewareThePenguin 1 Report post Posted May 20, 2009 Nah, we already know we're better than the entirety of the Eastern Conference. Stanley Cup finals were last series... we won, now we have to jump through 1.5 series to lift Lord Stanley. Our disdain for the Penguins comes from the NHL/Bettman's hard on for Crosby, Malkin and to a certain extent Ovechkin as the face of Hockey, the golden boys.... The Next One (in reference to Gretzky's title of The Great One). If these guys are so great how come they don't have pictures of them hoisting the cup? The answer is- because we're standing in the way. I'd rather have faced the Bruins this year who earned it but they couldnt close. Hard to argue with your arrogance here... as I said, your team's the best til somebody knocks them off. Still, it boggles my mind that fans of the champions would actually be caught believing there exists some conspiracy to favor another team... to be honest, I'm kind of embarrassed for you guys. I also included examples of other teams' fans who believe the same nonsense about your team, just for perspective. (I thought you'd enjoy the one about Bettman giving Datsyuk a free pass, in particular.) True, Crosby's cuplessness is because of your guys, though I think the fact he's barely past the legal drinking age has a little bit to do with things too. Give him a little time. Electrophile 3,554 Report post Posted May 20, 2009 I laugh in the face of conspiracy talk. HAHA! Seriously though, there is no conspiracy to hand the Wings the series or to murder the Hawks or to do anything untoward of that nature. The refs just flat out suck ass, no matter which team you're rooting for here. No on is biased for the Wings or biased against the Hawks. They just have no clue how to do their jobs. We've gotten away with s***, they've gotten away with s***. Also, quit saying this series is over in a s---p. I won't even write the word out, that's how much I don't want to inflame the hockey karma juju gods.
RockyMountainWingGal 108 Report post Posted May 20, 2009 The reffing didn't cost either team the game - and that's improvement imo. The Hawks got a 5-3 but didn't capitalize. The Wings got a cheap in the latter part of the third but didn't capitalize. No penalties in the short OT. PPs overall were fairly even. Had the Wings lost that game, we could not have blamed it on the reffing. Come on Blackhawks fans your defensemen are making stupid mistakes - no reffing is going to help you out of that.... EuroTwin 240 Report post Posted May 20, 2009 I think all fans can agree that AT BEST the Refs have been inconsistant and confusing. AT WORST the Refs have been downright horrible, probably blind and completely baffling. And I don't understand how they can "swallow their whistles" and then call the ticky-tacky s***. Isn't that the point of swallowing your whistle? That you let that tiny s*** go and you call the big, blatant things? And I think the refs have been not as bad as they were during the Anaheim series. Not that that's saying much. I'm not sure that they're favoring the Wing so much as trying to make the series go as long as possible. Let's face it. This series in general is more marketable than the Pens/Canes series. O6, close cities, old school rivalries... longer series make more money.
RyanK 1 Report post Posted May 20, 2009 Now Hawk fans are crying about the OT goal shouldn't have counted, because Detroit has 6 players (too many men) on the ice. LOL! Wow!
RyanK 1 Report post Posted May 20, 2009 PREPARE YOURSELVES FOR THIS ONE!!!! Quote from some stupid ******* s***cago "fan". Here's the reason I'm picking on Lidstrom: If he such the great Captain that everyone says he is, why has he never come out and said how embarassed he is when his team can get away with soo much more than other team can? Most fans understand that Detroit, Pittsburg, and a few select others get much more slack than the rest of the teams. If he is such a stand-up guy, walk up to the mike and admit your team is favored. Then he will be worthy of respect. Until that day, he is a scum-bag. :skull: to s***cago..
LionsAndRedwingsAndPistonsOhMy 3 Report post Posted May 20, 2009 Still, it boggles my mind that fans of the champions would actually be caught believing there exists some conspiracy to favor another team... to be honest, I'm kind of embarrassed for you guys. Yeah, no team has idiot fans. It boggles your mind that you can find idiots in every fanbase? Really? Hell, I can find 2 or 3 just here in my office. Do you get embarrassed for every other fan base in North America too? That would be an aweful amount of embarrassment to endure.

It is embarrassing that there are Red Wings fans who think the league is conspiracing against us all the time. It's worse than embarrassing, it's pathetic. The refs suck for everyone, there is no backroom deal to try and hold us back.
Nightfall 871 Report post Posted May 20, 2009 I tend to watch the games with other people, a few of them being hawks fans. One such hawks fan was complaining as much about missed calls as the Wings fans on this forum. I am a Red Wings fan, but I am also a hockey fan. I also play hockey as well as ref ice hockey, so I understand what the refs have to go through at least on some level. I am not one of these moron fans that ******* about everything that should or shouldn't have been called. Lets face facts here, if the fans were calling the penalties, it would be 3 on 3 the whole game. Each team would have 70 penalties, the shots would be 6-5, and it would be a 0-0 game because there would be so many goalie interference calls. So, in short, Chicago fans and Wings fans are both delusional. They both think their respective teams commit no penalties while the other team commits them all. Neither side would be happy unless there is a 20-1 margin in power plays for their team. I am glad I don't fit into that category.

My point was that EVERY fanbase of EVERY team in EVERY sport has those people. If a fan of another team is embarrassed by our fans, and their own, and every other teams......they would never do anything but be embarrassed. I would never dispute that we have our share of idiots. I just find another team's fan coming here with that statement to be highly amusing

I think I also saw/heard some of Chicago's fans bitching because Lids wears a visor and if he was their Captain, they would strip him of his C. I was like, um, doesn't Toews wear a visor too? Some of them are just insane. Take it with a giant boulder of salt and laugh at it. It's better for your health (mental and otherwise) than getting angry about it. Doc Holiday 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2009 It's ironic that Hawks fans call the Wings fans who discuss the issue on their boards classless when their own fans troll on these boards.
Guest Four Report post Posted May 20, 2009 (edited) I can see how the Chicago fans are angry about the calls yesterday, with their head coach calling foul every ten seconds. There were definitely some missed calls I was thankful for, but many of them would have gone unnoticed if their head coach stopped spewing to the refs. I do not see how they thought Abdelkader should have gotten a penalty for his "body slam" though; it was more Sharp's fault? therock48880 14 Report post Posted May 20, 2009 I think the reffing has been horribly inconsistent in this series so far. BOTH WAYS.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted May 20, 2009 Like it matters if those defenceman were on the ice anyways, they were nowhere near the play. Had they been in or play or touched the puck, then a call would be made. Suck it Chicago, your team has sucked for 40 years, they finally make the playoffs and you all come crawling back. Losers. NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted May 20, 2009 From the Blackhawks' boards: I don't think the first Wings goal should have counted because Holmstrom skated back into Khabby and both his feet were almost in the blue and it forced Khabby backwards and made him stand straight up as the shot came from the point. For a guy who's a fan of "Old Time Hockey", perhaps he should be more familiar with the rules. Supposedly, because Homer skated back towards Khabi, *didn't make contact, but skated back toward Khabi* and as a result this *made* Nikolai go backwards and thus this goal shouldn't have counted. :rotflmao: I don't like to rip on other teams' fans because every fan base has these types, but perhaps this guy should learn that goaltender interference can take place outside the crease *if* a player makes contact with a goaltender that has position or interferes with them trying to make a save. Given this, why didn't Khabi just let Homer run into him? Fact of the matter is Homer did no such thing, but this guy wants the goal waved off because basically mean old Homer came close to him and made Khabi "retreat". This is good too:
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted May 20, 2009 So big fans of a team that loses a game is complaining about referees or missed calls or conspiracy theories. Should we be surprised? No. Have Red Wings fans in here done the same? Plenty. Is there a referee conspiracy. No. Officiating is almost always going to be inconsistent. There will always be inconsistency when human error gets involved. Not too difficult to figure out and not really worth reading in-between the lines to me. RoninJai 5 Report post Posted May 20, 2009 (edited) Speaking of bad officiating and/or conspiracy, is it just me, or is it weird that Nick Lidstrom had as many PIMs last game than the entire Penguins team had in their last two?
