lets go pavel 2 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 If Chelios and Babcock dislike each other, why did the Wings bring him back? Why did Cheli come back? Certainly not for the playing time ...
KronwallCRUNCH 5 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 Babcock constantly talks about how amazed he is with Cheli during press conferences and post-game interviews. If a coach doesn't like a player, you usually know it. See: Sean Avery/Aaron Ward.

VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 I hate to say it though, there may be some truth to player-coach conflict. I love having Babcock around, but this isn't the first time we've heard of players being "mistreated" by Babcock. He rubs a lot of players the wrong way, but so far it hasn't generated too much drama or ruined the teams chances at winning. I think whenever his reign as coach is over we'll hear a lot more about what's goign on behind the scenes.

MidMichSteve 1,115 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 Hey JR, here's a little friendly advice from me to you: "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt." I like. ^^^
Uniblab 12 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 Remember what Bobby Clarke once said about JR. "He doesn't have a speed bump between his brain and his mouth."
servo 15 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 This is just an attempt to try to get some kind of distraction. JR said on NHL live yesterday that he didn't want Detroit to win the cup and is pulling for the Hawks. Who cares.
MidMichSteve 1,115 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 If Chelios and Babcock dislike each other, why did the Wings bring him back? Why did Cheli come back? Certainly not for the playing time ... My thoughts exactly. Chelios would not be here if he had to put up with that kind of s*** all the time. Except from opposing fans. He loves that!
Chunkylover 26 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 I read this and even Cheli himself questioned JR's statements. With that said I believe Chelios might have expressed displeasure with not dressing for games. Let's look at this though: JR, an old Hawk, goes on a Chicago radio show and slams the head coach of the hated Red Wings for not playing one of Chicago's favorite sons. Media sensationalism at its best. On a side note, can anyone name for me the last great American born player? Derian Hatcher is the only American to captain a team to a Stanley Cup in the last while, at least since the mid-eighties. There are no American captains on any of the remaining teams and only Drury led a team to the post-season, and you could seriously question his and Gomez' abilities given that teams performance. Sure guys like Housley, Modano, Tkachuk, Roenick, and Chelios put up some good numbers and contributed to their teams success, but has the whole "heartless Europeans" debate obscured the fact that few American players evidence passion for the game. Roenick and Chelios have a lot of passion now, now that they must make up for the fact that they've lost a step and aren't competitive with their peers. wingnut40 176 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 Babs probably didn't hear what Roenick was saying because he had his Stanley Cup ring pluggin' his ear.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 I love JR, so it doesnt matter. If this was 02 Cheli, or even 07 Cheli, he'd be in. That's all it is.
Grim 5 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 I just grew, in leaps and bounds, with respect for Babcock. No player, no matter the ego or past achievement, should be above whats best for the team. We all love Cheli, but he's hardly been playing up to snuff as of late. Its probably worsened by Cheli's age and all the injury-time lost this season. If JR and the Sharks want to give Chelios monster ice-time, they are most welcome to it. As for the anti-American jab, I don't get it... Rafalski and Lebda get gobs of responsibilities, arguably too much.
ilmickeyli 40 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 I'd believe JR.. Not like Chelios can admit that s*** publicly
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 JR is and always has been an idiot, but I do wish that Chelli was playing. With two consecutive long playoff runs, he would have been able to extend his record playoff games played to an even higher amount. It's a shame that he hasn't played that much in these last two runs.
NvrFrgtRussian5 85 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 I believe it to an extent. But I am sure player/coach fueds happen all the time everywhere. I sure Babs/Cheli have mad respect for one another but maybe don't see eye to eye on everything. It is known babs is a down to business kind of guy. He can't hate the man too much, he let him play the Winter Classic and the last two games against ChiTown. Pretty good props if you ask me.
GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 Here's an idea: Chelios isn't playing because he sucks. End of story.
RockyMountainWingGal 108 Report post Posted May 22, 2009 They were discussing this on home ice awhile ago - conclusion was that Roenick is an ass. Shouldn't he be working on his golf game? He's just jealous he doesn't play for a real team that actually makes the conference final (and beyond) regularly. Who listens to this ass-hat anyways? STFU - you are not the center of attention right now you clown. Although not a big fan of Roy, I did like his famous quote "I'm sorry I can't hear Jeremy, my Cup rings are plugging my ears"
McCartyFanForLife 17 Report post Posted May 22, 2009 JR was hoping beyond hope that there was a clause in the CBA that allowed players on teams eliminated from playoff contention could be picked off waivers to play on teams that are still in the playoffs. Alas, JR, you will retire without a ring... and nothing will change that.
Sergei Fedorov91 24 Report post Posted May 22, 2009 JR is just mad because he didnt' sign with Detroit becasue he thought they had goaltending issues.
