Chris Osgood, Possible Conn Smythe? HOF?

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

He is playing very well, keeping us in games in pretty much all of the first periods so far. He is leading the league(goalies left) in GAA, wins (tied with 11) and save percentage.

If the Wings wind up repeating, and with no one skater on our club dominating, how much consideration should Osgood get for the Conn Smythe (if any)?

and if he does win it, does that finally quiet the skeptics about his number being retired and getting into the Hall?

yes, ozzy is playing great, he usually does in the playoffs but,

how about we worry about the series at hand. hill keep stopping pucks and giving us chances to win, thats all what matters

No. Never. People will always ***** and moan about Ozzie.

He could win the next seven Stanley Cups and sweep all the NHL awards and people would still go, "ehhhh" when asked if he should go into the HoF.

Franzen is Ozzie's only real competition for the Smythe, on the Wings at least.

I dunno man, Hossa just scored a goal last game. That means in the world of knee-jerk he's now up for the Hart, Vezina, Selke, Conn Smythe, and governor of Michigan.

I think as of right now he's one of the top front runners for the Conn Smyth. That seems to be the general consensous throughout the media.

As quiet as he's been this year, I feel like Lidstrom's name should be thrown around more for MVP. He has been absolutely crucial to some of our more pivotal games this year, and he's putting up pretty good numbers (almost a point per game) for defense.

You all couldn't be more wrong. It's Kopy that will get it. After all, he's the one who felt as if he had to send a message that the Wings won't back down. And he doesn't regret that one bit...

I can't see Osgood getting the Conn Smythe for one reason only: Wings win the cup and nobody that isn't a Red Wings fan will say that Osgood had anything to do with winning. When the Wings win a game people say that it's due to their defence and offence. When Wings lose games people blame Osgood for it even if the entire team except him plays like crap. Lets face it, Osgood could not let a goal past him from here on and he still wouldn't be considered for Conn Symthe, but I hope I am wrong on that.

I can see Crosby winning the Conn Smythe because of his point totals, which seems to a lot of new NHL fans is the only important part of an amazing player, and two-way players aren't as good.

I hope you're wrong about that too. I think Ozzie's a good candiate this year and I'd love to see him win it.

if he couldnt win it last year, i dont know how he wins it this year. without him, we wouldve lost to nashville. remember he got 8 straight wins, 2 straight shut outs to start the SCF...i dunno.

i say franzen or cleary but it depends what happens in the finals. but first lets worry about winning 1 more game before any of this talk!

A Conn Smythe cements his HOF status.

I just don't see it happening, and this isn't Ozzie bashing.

I say a Cup alone would be enough to cement HOF status. No question in my mind.

Ozzie will retire as one of the league's greats and will be in the Hall without a doubt.

I don't think he gets his number retired, and I don't think he should get the Conn Smythe. That belongs to Franzen (as much as I loathe that wuss) if it goes to a Wing, he's played better than what's expected of him consistently through this playoff run.

Ozzie has been playing great and Ozzie is a great goaltender. He's also on the most skilled team in the league. While that's not hisfault exactly, it is an enviable position to be in if you're a goaltender, and that has to be considered.

Franzen hasn't done more than is expected of him. He's expected to do everything he's done and then some. I could see you saying that about Cleary or Helm even, but not Franzen. Also whether Osgood plays for the most skilled team in the league is irrelevant. What matters is how he's playing and how that's effected the outcome of this post season. Saying what team he plays for needs to be considered when making a decision like Conn Smythe is off base. If a player on the team that doesn't win The Cup can win Conn Smythe, what team the athlete plays for doesn't make a difference.

Come on now. You really don't think that when judging a goalie's performance, you have to take into account the skill or lack thereof that's in front of him?

You also expected Franzen to lead the team in goals and points this playoffs? The guy who was 6th in reg season points? No s***? You thought Franzen would be at 1.3 ppg?
