Nucks' Ohlund looking for a new club - wants to win the cup

dunno but so far our D goes like this...

Lidstrom

Rafalski

Kronwall

Stuart

Ericsson

--------------

Meech

Lebda

Chelli

first 5 are lock if you ask me. Ericsson is not there yet but he looks like poised to join the big boys.

this leaves us with one roster spot and I don't think Wings would shell enough money to bring Ohlund

in, taking into account how they'll need to fill forward spots.

plus: we have all those guys, except Chelli, already signed. we're like 6M under the cap with a number

of F spots to fill. http://nhlnumbers.com/overview.php?team=DET&season=0809

meanwhile our D looks as good as it gets

in short: can't see this happen. everything speaks against this trade

- At my age it would of course be nice to sign for a club that has a good chance of winning the cup, Ohlund says to NSD"

Solid olympic defenseman, don't sign hossa, sign him to a "hometown-good-chance-for-cup"-discount around 3M?

Being from the West Coast I follow the Canucks a little bit. His problem is even though hes not that old hes declining, and has already declined to an extent, and I'm guessing playing hurt so often has advanced his decline with respect to his age. Hes still got gas left in the tank, but we have cap issues even if we dont sign hossa, as I feel well still lose Samuelson or Hudler. Adding another 3 million to the payroll, you are guarantee to lose both those guys and maybe have to move another roster player. Hes not worth it at this stage, if it was a few years ago, then great.

Ohlund would be at best a Wings #4 D, and I doubt he would take the salary equivalent of one his type should get on a team stacked like the Wings. If he was willing to have a massive paycut I think it's something to consider. Wouldn't count on it though.

Yeah another question is would he accept being a 5th D? that would have advantages though cause you could roll all three D pairs and give lidstrom etc less minutes so he can player longer...

Samuelsson is most likely gone as well, hudler can get that little raise when not re-signing hossa, sign leino... uhm... ericsson stays, try and trade lilja... lilja and ohlund is the same age but i'd say ohlund is a bit better in everything...

If he's willing to take a huge discount im all for it but if he demands similar to his nucks' salary, then no...

You could say that about probably three-quarters of the players in the league. I say pass. We're deep enough defensively.

Under the right circumstances I wouldn't have a problem with this at all. I just think Ericsson needs to get a full NHL season under his belt to develop properly, hopefully with quite a bit of ice time with Lidström and Stuart.

Would it be nice...yes...

Is it feasable...no...

Wings already have for next year

Lids-Raffi

Kronner-Stuart

Ericsson-Lilja

And on top of that to possiby re-sign Hossa they already need to trade away somebody to make room, and if they do not re-sign hossa they will be bringing Hudler or Sammy back...

So no...the cap strapped Wings will not be bringing in Ohlund...

Exactly. When you consider the need to develop Ericsson, Lilja's maybe the only one in that whole group that I'd bench for Ohlund. And I'm not paying his asking price for a 3rd pairing guy.

The biggest acquisition we can make this off-season is cap flexibility without gutting the team. That's preferable to even Hossa for me right now (as painful as that is to type), let alone Ohlund.

Well to further your point, we have Lilja too and he is at worst our 6th defensemen.

It would be a free agent signing, not a trade. Which would make cap even more of an issue.

Considering the defensive issues the team had during regular season, adding him would be a boost?

No.

How much longer are we going to keep some of the kids down? Isn't it Meech that will be out of options next year? I'd rather keep him than take on Ohlund.

From a salary perspective that makes sense.

From a talent standpoint, Derek Meech will never become half of an Ohlund.

"My first choice is to go to a competitive team that will contend for The Stanley Cup. My 2nd choice would be Phoenix so my wife can begin working on our retirement plans there. We like the weather, and over the years with the Canucks, we have become fond of the golf courses there. Will make a perfect compliment to our home in Vancouver. "-The Vancouver Sun

Wow, its so easy to make s*** up on the internet. No wonder Eklund does it.

With Hank and Franzen's contracts locked up the only free agents this team is going to be looking at are back up goalies if they decide Howard can't cut it.

I'd rather keep Hossa. Our D is fine.

exactly. Ohlund.... while somewhat interesting, doesn't seem like he would be a good fit in the organization. The Wings seem like they have a real nice defensive core with veterans and younger prospects mixed together - and this is just in the NHL.

Sign and Trade Deal

Vancouver signs Ohlund to a 3 year, 9 million dollar deal.

The Wings trade Holmstrom and Lebda to the Canucks for Ohlund.

Get it done, Kenny.

:rotflmao:

Good joke, man!

If Holmstrom sucks as bad as you say he does, why would the Canucks do that?

I really hope this is sarcasim but after some of the posts you've made I am leaning toward you being serious. This isn't the NBA. Sign and Trade deals are looked down upon in the NHL. Your hate of Homer is becoming more annoying each post you make. Besides, the chances we trade Holmstrom are very, very little.
