Jersey Wing 1,521 Report post Posted June 2, 2009 If you could have your pick of ONE forward, ONE defenseman and ONE goalie going forward to make your franchise one of the best in the NHL, who would you go with? Don't worry about a salary cap for this, just tell us your three guys you're building around and why... Oh, and your team Dr. will of course be Dr. Rahmani and Al Sobotka will be your building manager
ComradeWasabi 109 Report post Posted June 2, 2009 The homer in me says Hank, Nick and a goalie that I haven't figured out yet. I'd like to say Ozzie but I'm trying to think of another goaltender who is simply rock-solid all the time. Someone like Ryan Miller, perhaps, or Nabokov (although Nabby has had his share of off games..). For the sake of this thread I propose we choose three non-Red Wings just to try to make it a little more interesting. In that case, I would say... Mike Richards; the consummate locker room leader provides a strong foundation to build a team and his exemplary two-way play sets an example for everyone else. Scott Niedermayer; a 30-minute-a-night elder statesman who plays in all situations and who, of course, skates incredibly smoothly. Henrik Lundqvist; always a rock in net for the Rangers; capable of standing on his head when called upon and is almost never the reason that the Rangers lose... and that's really all you can ask for in a goalie. Booster313 138 Report post Posted June 2, 2009 Forward would be Pavel Datsyuk...best all around forward in the game. Goalie would be Luongo...in his prime, great goalie etc and Defensmen would be hmmm I don't know that's tough...to me there's a big drop off between Lidstrom and the rest of the league yet it seems foolish to build a team around a 39 year old defenseman...even if he is the best in the league. Lidstrom for life 20 Report post Posted June 2, 2009 I am assuming this is not just for a season but for building a dynasty Forward = Datsyuk...what kind of wings fan would I be if I said anything else? Defense = Ericsson, again homer opinion, but if I am building a team he seems like a great choice being so young and he obviously has amazing potential as a two way defenseman Goalie = ...I would say Ozzy because right now he is the best in the NHL, but if I was building a team, I'd have to go with Hiller from Anaheim because he is going to be so good for so long. mjlegend 155 Report post Posted June 2, 2009 With no Wings: Ovechkin (you can't teach 60 goals) Dunc Keith (good two way guy, I see him as a Norris candidate down the road) Cam Ward (never lost a playoff series until this year) With Wings: Datsyuk Kronwall Oz. BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted June 2, 2009 Are we talking building for the long term, or building to win right now? Long term: Crosby and Phaneuf. Not sure on a goalie since they take longer to develop. Ward maybe? Win right now: Datsyuk, Lidstrom, and Marty B.
Datsyerberger 279 Report post Posted June 2, 2009 For one year? D-man: Lidstrom. Should be a no-brainer. Forward: Hmm. Ovenchicken. Explosive scorer. Physical. Brings it in the playoffs. I think his defensive game is underrated, too. While he isn't a selke forward by any stretch of the imagination, he simply controls the ice while he's out there. Goaltender: Ozzie. Awesome playoff performer, and cheap to boot. Oh, and chanting "Ozzie! Ozzie! Ozzie!" rocks. In the long term? D-man: This is a toughy... moreso given that none of the highly acclaimed young d-men out there are proven playoff performers (yet). However, for now, give me Keith. Great skating, hockey smarts, smooth passing.. defense first but still puts up good points. Arguably the closest thing to a Lidstrom out there right now. Goalie: Ward. Best young playoff goalie available at the moment. Forward: Ovy again
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted June 2, 2009 Blaaaaargh @ Phaneuf picks. That jackhole is overrated. I can hella get behind Duncan Keith though. AO up front, not sure who I like in net. King Henrik and Cam Ward are both pretty solid picks, though.

King Henrik and Cam Ward are both pretty solid picks, though. I was thinking the same thing. Dman: Bouwmeester Forward: Getzlaf (honestly, I have no justification for picking him over AO, but maybe its the fact that we know he can thrive in a tight Western Conference atmosphere) Goalie: Lundqvist

wingsdiehard13 33 Report post Posted June 2, 2009 Veteran/Rookie picks Zetterberg/Leino Kronwall/Victor Hedman Brodeur/Mason Nice pick. Totally slipped by me, but I still think I would take Ward because his amount of experience at a young age.
stevie for president 42 Report post Posted June 2, 2009 F crosby D crosby G crosby best player in the NHL. he can do everything. Hes like Gretzky, Orr, and Roy all rolled into one. for real though F Datsyuk because im a homer and hes the best 2 way player in the NHL. Not on detroit though id go with Devin Setoguchi. D Cam Barker is young, big, and offensively talented, but he needs to work on his +/-. if he cant focus on defense id probably go with Duncan Keith instead. (yikes chicago could have a tough D if they can get rid of Campbell and Huet's contracts!) G Cam Ward hands down best young goalie in the NHL
