Nev 1,085 Report post Posted June 2, 2009 Classic line Every day doesn't need to be Sidney Crosby day," [Penguins coach Dan] Bylsma replied when asked why Crosby, who many refer to as the face of the NHL, wasn't on the roster of Penguins players made available to the media on the eve of Game 3. NHL media relations pushed hard to encourage the Penguins to reconsider, but in the end they relented with a compromise that included Pittsburgh sending five players to the media area. Sergei Gonchar, Matt Cooke, Chris Kunitz, Tyler Kennedy and Kris Letang faced reporters. Bylsma defended his decision to give Crosby the day off by acknowledging the importance of other players experiencing the full responsibility of the Stanley Cup final. "We made a choice to give other people a chance to be up here (on the media podium) and for you to talk to them and feel it's important for it to be a team thing, not just Dan Bylsma and Sidney Crosby talking at the podium every day," Bylsma said. It should be noted that Evgeni Malkin refused to speak to the media following Game 2 and was also unavailable in Pittsburgh on Monday Liking this guy more and more - who knows, maybe he can even start to rub some of that class on Crosby (hey, you gotta live in hope)

#19forPresident! 1 Report post Posted June 2, 2009 Yeah, I like Bylsma too, under his watch for a whole season and beyond that team could get the kind of bench leadership that is crucial to success. Therrien had Crosby-itis, he had the knowledge and skill to coach that team very well but he spent too much time worrying about things that were already done with and not focusing on ensuring positive outcomes for those that hadn't happened yet. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
SoDakWing 8 Report post Posted June 2, 2009 He is def. seeming like a stand up guy. He's slowing getting my approval. Now if he just wasn't coaching against us right now

LeftWinger 5,152 Report post Posted June 2, 2009 (edited) I think he's getting tired of all the Crysby hype. He sees the commercials, he sees the lovefest and genuinely doesn't like it as much as the next guy. He's a good ol' Michigan boy, he's a blue collar hard working man, not into pampering prissy ***** players. He won't last long in Pit with that attitude towards their (NHL) messiah. Good Luck Dan, whereever you go next year! Wings In 5! Edited June 2, 2009 by LeftWinger
softshoes 83 Report post Posted June 2, 2009 This guys article sums up a lot of things I was thinking after the game2 'scrum'. He pretty much wonders if Crosby is really the leader for the Pens and I couldn't agree more with him. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/190434-...the-pens-family

He's a good ol' Michigan boy, he's a blue collar hard working man, not into pampering prissy ***** players. He won't last long in Pit with that attitude towards their (NHL) messiah. Good Luck Dan, whereever you go next year! Wings In 5! I have no proof and no insider info just a hunch but I think Bylsma realizes that Crosby needs to be a hockey player not the face of the league. Regardless if Sid wants to admit it or not, being labeled the saving grace of hockey has got to come with a lot of pressure, not to mention being looked at by the fan base as Mario Jr (as in team savior) he is under a lot of pressure, and I think Bylsma realizes guys like Guerin, Gonchar, Kunitz who have all been here before can be in front of the Mic and give Sid some time to just be a hockey player and not a "hockey god". Overall, this guy will change the attitude in Pit, Like I said in another post, attitude reflects leadership. (Yeah I stole it from remember the titans)

Wait do they love the Wings now, or is that after they go back to back? I can never remember how these conspiracy things work!
edicius 3,269 Report post Posted June 2, 2009 Bylsma's a classy guy. He provides the leadership that the Pittsburgh locker room has been lacking for the last however many years. Which is a scary, scary thing. I genuinely think he realizes that Crosby was made captain too early and the team has suffered as a result.

Just hopefully not this year. Tremendous coach, tremendous guy. And he doesn't deserve any of the crap he's been getting about using the TO (or not) after the icings either.
