Is Osgood on the verge of a meltdown?

i think the leash has been long enough for the OP. I believe "all are welcome" but "all have to follow forum rules". This poster clearly does not wish to follow and abide by the rules and should be treated no different than any other poster who comes to this website.

No, he did not have to PLAY, but he did have to show up for the media. If he chose not to show up in Montreal, that would have led to a suspension.

Dead wrong. the original rule stated you have to PLAY in the All Star Game - not merely play grab-ass with the media and corporate sponsors.

The rule was not changed until a few days before the ASG - I wonder why?

Those who've read my posts know I've been a fan of your goalie's play, particularly in big-game situations. But even ardent Detroit fans will admit he's had a history of, shall we say, crack-ups in the past.

I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but during one of the breaks Osgood had a strange altercation with one of the snow-sweeper crew at the Arena. The man was doing his job when Osgood grabbed him and had some words. I found this strange behavior -- combined with the uncharacteristic un-screened goal he gave up yesterday, I began to wonder.

Is Osgood about to crack a bit -- or at least become a bit more mortal? Will the Pens find scoring on him easier? Will he blow up at some point? I can only hope so.

(Of course, that said he'll probably be a wall Thursday Night -- but if he isn't, remember, you read it here first.)

The wings did not play well around Ozzie hence the 3ed goal in the 3ed, we went about 10+ min with out a shot on goal.

But Ozzie wont crack, he is a PROVEN goalie, a PROVEN vet and has been here before.

he let in a weak goal.... as if the Pens goalie has not. Come on .

So to answer your question, No he is not cracking, he will rebound just fine as all good goalies do. and make no mistake ozzie is a good goalie, correction.... Great goalie.

BewareThePenguin - the line has been drawn and truth is revealed. you ARE in fact a troll. i, for one, gave you multiple passes this season as well as last, but you can only camoflauge a POS for so long. you work hard at hiding behind this facade of giving two rips about this hockey team for which this forum pays homage but i am no longer buying it, period.

there's a pattern in your posts... clearly you put a lot of effort into percentages because with every criticism you give (or just antagonistic nonsense) you choose to lace it with a few reasons why we should all believe that you sincerely care. i'm calling BS.

going forward, you're going to have to work significantly harder to hide your ulterior motive, which is being a troll. why couldn't you simply just identify yourself as such instead of making these futile attempts to take on this fake persona of giving a damn?

i don't expect you to (and i don't care) respond. this post is more for the sake of apologizing to the others here who called me a fool for believing that you had any semblance of sincerity in your intentions here. to those people, i admit that i was slow to see, and perhaps my wanting to give others the benefit of the doubt led to an extreme inability to see things for what they are.

thanks for trying to call my attention to this sooner, and for your forgiveness and patience each time i attempted to defend this obvious troll.

i was reluctant to write this at all because trolls most commonly have the goal of getting under one's skin and their work is done. well, i have no qualms with admitting the fact that my emotions were slightly enhanced as a result of some of the absolute pollution i've heard come out of the OP's mouth... however, i assure you, this will no longer be the case.

written off for the troll he is/was/and with respect to time at LGW... has been.

no debate necessary. jury is out and i've had my final words on this issue, trust me.

QFT

Seriously when will this guy get banned. He is definately just trying to start flame wars. He starts threads at letsgowings about how horrible of a person Z is, his play is bush league, he is losing respect from everyone and the thread gets deleted. Now he starts a tread accusing Ozzy of stuff and saying he might be cracking up. He is much better a faking it and acting rational but he comes in one a year before a series with his team, compliments the Wings, then once the series starts proceeds to do not much but start thread (not just post in an existing thread) but starting threads about how one of our players sucks or is classless or is cracking up and then attributes any win the Wings get to good luck and any loss the Pen get to bad luck (I'll bet he doesn't think the only reason the Pens won last night is they had good luck and the Wings had bac luck). It's pathetic.

Btw that was "Jake." Don't you think I was OK for just a wee bit of fun after the arrogant stuff that guy posted?

I like to think I post like the best play hockey. Honest, aggressive and hard-hitting. Pulling no punches, giving props where due, checking hard when I think someone's full o' crap. If that makes me a troll in some eyes, so be it.

Speaking of Jake, where is he now anyway? Seems to have disappeared like vapor.

No No No!!! I didn't disappear, brother! And I don't mind the ribbing. I will eat my crow when the situation calls for it. And right about now, I agree with you. Time for a knife, fork, and napkin for me. Good win last night, BTP. The Pens played a solid game, and unlike many around here, I think they won fair and square. A lot of non-calls on both sides, but when it boils down to it, I'm happy that the officials have been super consistent (2-3 power plays for each team each game). You guys beat us by a power-play goal late in the third and then put in an empty netter. The Red Wings weren't humiliated last night. They were barely beaten. I can't wait to see the Wings jump on the Penguins in the first period tomorrow night and get out to a 3-0 lead. You are going to see our "Explosion" game tomorrow night, and you're not going to like it. Too bad we didn't win last night, cause I REALLY wanted to see the Red Wings hoist the cup on the 2nd ice surface they own in the playoffs. Wings in 5!!!!!!

Do you have a link that states this? I honestly thought that as long as someone attended the weekend events, you were not subject to a suspension. Why would Bettman want to risk injuring the stars even more? Doesnt make sense.

A quick lookup I found this.

according to Daren Dreger of TSN, the NHL is threatening to suspend players for skipping out on this weekend's All-Star festivities in Montreal. Seriously.

From Dreger:

The NHL says it will enforce an understanding that all players who decline to show after being named to the All-Star teams must miss at least one game before or one game after the All-Star weekend.

This announcement comes after Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby, along with Detroit's Pavel Datsyuk and Nicklas Lidstrom, backed out of Sunday's exhibition game. While the absence of such players takes away from whatever shine an All-Star game is supposed to have, it's really not the end of the world. It is, after all, an exhibition game, and the game already loses plenty of shine when Mike Komisarek is a starter.

Now, what this report doesn't specify is whether or not the players have to actually play in the game. In the case of Crosby, for example, he's dealing with a knee injury. Risking further damage to it in a game that doesn't count -- when his real team is fighting for a playoff spot -- doesn't make much sense. Which is why he's decided to sit out the game.

I'm guessing Gary Bettman's iron fist is forcing the players to simply show up in Montreal and take part in the weekend's meet and greet with media, fans, etc. etc. etc.

Verbal Warnings have been issued, so lets get this thread back on topic. The discussion is regarding Ozzie's play and whether he might start playing less stellar than he has up until last night.

Solid (even rough) debate back and forth is more than fine, but Flame-baiting will be dealt with swiftly.

Thank you NFM#25!

As far as osgood, history has proven that he does have bad games...but follows them up with traditionally his best games. To me this is no different. Osgood will be the best player on the ice thursday and look for him to prove why he is clutch in the finals. Wings win tomorrow!

Ozzy allowed 3 goals. Big deal. All of them he was screened, 2 were on the power play, in which we're somewhere around 50% in killing penalties.

He'll allow no more than 2 tomorrow. Don't be surprised if he gets a shutout either.

I don't know if you witnessed anything personally, and I certainly didn't see anything on VS, but if this really did happen he's fined or suspended. It's okay for hockey players to beat up on each other, but grabbing a civilian is assault. If you can post video maybe I'll believe it: trust, but verify.

The Penguins played with more jump, got some of those breaks they were asking for and the Wings played sloppy. Osgood isn't melting down. He let in a bad goal, but that happens even to good goalies, you should know that.

Yeah, and I have serious doubts a guy like Osgood would just attack some innocent bystander. The guy is not only one of the calmest players int he league, but one of the nicest.

The original rule, stated to the GMs and also stated by Colin campbell (I can try and find the video if you really need it) was that players had to PLAY in the All Star Game in order to avoid suspension -- however, a few days before the actual ASG an 'out' clause was offered that the players only had to 'participate' in the proceedings.

Coincidence that Crosby was injured and was already planning on attending the event and had admitted to being on the phone with Bettman himself?

The very idea that being ok enough to hop on a plane and tromp around Montreal somehow 'validates' an injury is preposterous. While players who stay home with an injury for rest and therapy are somehow 'suspect' and deserve a one-game suspension.

This article was actually written to demonize Ken Holland, but it actually confirms that the 'exception' to the rule was not offered until a few days before the actual ASG.

Just like Malkin's recent suspension (as well as Crosby's), the league could have waived Lidstrom's and Datsuk's suspension (considering their exemplarary service to the league). Instead, Lidstrom and Datsyuk were pasted all over newspapers as being spoiled, classless brats who cared nothing for fans of the NHL.

I agree completely. The bigger the game, the bigger Oz has always been known to step up. It'll be a massive boost (if even just mentally) if Dats is able to go tomorrow, but either way I see the boys playing with the effort they throughout the first two period minus the gaffs.

Pens win 1 game and Pens trolls get carried away. Wings Win and we LGW'ers just keep it moving and focus on the next one. That is the difference.

This thread = laughable

Ozzie put on a solid performance last night, our team did not. Saying that, even though he has stolen quite a few games for us this play-off run, gotta remember he's human.

The team played down right awful last night (except period 2). People tend to forget that no matter how good of a goal tender you are, if your defense isn't even clicking just a little bit, not even the best goalie in the world can help.

Look at Ward, excellent goalie, his defense left him out to dry...numbers speak for themselves. Same with the devils, they hung Broduer out to dry, and even the great Broduer couldn't do anything about it. All goal tenders are at the mercy of their defense...and the wings defense was reeeeeaaaaalllllyyyy bad last night. On a side note, I do believe Ozzie ROBBED several of the penguins players last night, so he didn't play bad.

But as the saying goes, "history repeats itself", it's very true with Osgood. Prolly one of the few goalies to shake it off, get mad in a good way, and put up a lights out performance the game after. BTW, he's not melting down.

Lastly, the whole Ossssssgggooooooooddd sarcasm chant doesn't phase Ozzie in the least, all it will do is make him play better. So keep heckling him, your doing the Wings and Osgood a favor.

I can't believe that there are Wings fans on this board saying that he played a bad game. I don't see how a rebound can happen, because he didn't play bad last night. The defense sucked it up and then Ericcson decided to obstruct instead of play defense.

That is the only reason the Pens won, because they got a PP goal off Ericsson's stupid move.

yeah I don't think he played all that bad. Made some good saves. Talbot goal he was moving cause of the one timer. Letangs it looks like Kronwall was screening a little and he sure didn't see Gonchar's. Plus E took the penalty and the Wings had their chances to clear the puck and didn't on that same PP.
