sureWhyNot 19 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 The thread title should be renamed to the "OFFICIAL NEGATIVITY [sKY IS FALLING]" thread. Knee jerk much? No one is acting like the sky is falling. It has been a busy ass day around the league and the Wings have been the only silent team. It's not the end of the world, nor is anyone making it to be. They are simply pointing it out. So take your contrived anger, and pompous "i see the whole picture from an elevated level" attitude and channel it into something productive. This is a RED WINGS FORUM - where we discuss RED WINGS HOCKEY. What exactly would you like us to chat about on free agency day?

This is a RED WINGS FORUM - where we discuss RED WINGS HOCKEY. What exactly would you like us to chat about on free agency day? Logic. That would be a good start. The Wings CAN NOT be big players without money play with. It's that simple, really. Kenny already said the Wings won't be big players in the market and intend on using the young guys in our system. Today was no surprise for most of us here....
evilmrt 636 Report post Posted July 2, 2009 I think Holland is just avoiding the July 1st frenzy that goes with the first day of free agency. We've all seen deals today that were a little too high, and he knows this (I think hes even commented on it before). Wait until things calm down, and the psychologically inflated prices come back down to where they should be. This is the same kind of panic you guys were spreading on draft day...which is funny, because everyone knows how amazing the Wings are at finding diamonds in the rough/late rounds. Snazzy 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2009 (edited) Who asked for BIG PLAYERS?! We are hoping to get a little bit TOUGHER, BIGGER and to IMPROVE our PK units... Again, after we sign our GR guys, where is this money coming from? Wait for the frenzy to calm down and sign a cheap "lesser known" guy for under 800,000 and we should be fine. EDIT: or wait and trade one of our defensman (Lebda or Lilja). Edited July 2, 2009 by Snazzy
Mitchmac33 103 Report post Posted July 2, 2009 I would sign Gionta in heartbeat for around 2.5 million a season....but something tells me he'll be asking for a little bit more then that. i said that earlier and ppl just said he sucked, i'd love to have gionta
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted July 2, 2009 Detroit doesn't have much cap space. They still have a solid team regardless that will have little trouble making the playoffs in all likelihood. No need to worry that much.

A.T.Hun 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2009 Chicago got better.... Toronto, better... Montreal, better... Columbus, a little better... St. Louis, has a much better goalie than Legace now, so improved they did... Philly, better... And, out of that group, the only one that vaguely concerns me is Chicago. They're going to have issues of their own when Kane and Toews come up for new contracts. Having said that, I'm all for them getting what they can while the getting is good. Of course, there's that issue with their playoff goalie not being on the team anymore. Everybody who would be happy about Cristobal Huet being your playoff goalie when you have Cup aspirations, please raise your hand. Didn't think so. Toronto got better only because they couldn't get much worse. Meanwhile, the Red Wings have fundamentally the same team that won the Cup in 2008. Don't forget, Kenny made a big deal earlier by signing Franzen long-term. With some of the cash that's been thrown around today, that deal just keeps looking better and better. norrisnick 1 Report post Posted July 2, 2009 Lappy for $1.1M isn't crazy at all... 1. It's a few 100K high. 2. It's a 3 year deal. Which leads to... 3. He's 35+ so you can't make the cap hit disappear when you figure out that a multi-year deal for a late 30s scrapper is a really really bad idea. Ian's deal is crazy. dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted July 2, 2009 Sjostrom signed with the Flames. If there was one guy I really hoped the Wings could get, it was him. Damn it.

jvxp 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2009 Maybe they can sell off their players and rebuild Flyers-style. That would sell tickets, and some of Detroit's corporate f***wads who don't show up for their season tickets. And the LGW would be happy. That is funny. YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted July 2, 2009 Malhotra Grier Bell Pyatt Moen Moore Larose Nichol Betts Winchester Still some decent names for the 3rd or 4th lines, depending on the guy.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted July 2, 2009 Malhotra Grier Bell Pyatt Moen Moore Larose Nichol Betts Winchester Still some decent names for the 3rd or 4th lines, depending on the guy. I've always wanted Grier to play for us just because he's from Detroit. I know he fights like a puss, but he does play physical hockey and is a decent two-way player. Moen and Winchester would be ideal also, especially since Winchester came off a hell of a season for the Blues scoring more goals than anyone expected from him. Of course, by tomorrow none of these guys will likely be left, while Holland will still be sitting around talking about next year's trade deadline where we'll likely get another Kyle Calder. Doc Holiday 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2009 There are plenty of good players out there for the picking! Such as: Brendan Shanahan Boyd Deveraux Maxim Kuznetsov Manny Legace What more could any team ask for?? We might as well tank for a top 5 pick when those guys are on the market. It's not like our team has any talent to begin with.
