To me it looks like they're gonna be forced to move JT or Marleau.

They seem to have a lot of guys capable of playing in their top 6, but not much in the way of grinders/role players... you know, the moens or griers.

With the depth of their defence and this cap issue I find it very surprising that they gave Blake such a big contract for this year.

What do you guys think they'll do?

GM for the Sharks is a moron. . . they talked about cleaning house and they have done nothing but sign an aging D-man. In addition, they let their backup goalie get away. Nothing will be different for the Sharks come April, they'll make the playoffs and exit in Round 1 because Nabokov will be used up in the reg season again and mighty Joe has no idea what it means to step things up.

The only different scenario I would like to see is SJ meet Chi in the first round and have SJ take out the mighty Hawks. It would be only fitting for Talon to have a quick exit since he has now risked the future of the Hawks by signing Hossa and not leaving much money to sign their RFA's in the next 2 years.

Regardless, Wings are still the favorite in the West, no matter what the media and the NHL do to try and convince everyone else that they are not.

Go Wings!

Cap issues aside, they are missing some big pieces of the puzzle.

#1 an experinced NHL head coach

#2 a captain that is actually a leader

That said, Dan Blysma was fortunate enough to win the cup with no NHL head coaching experience. Sometimes that happens when you sit down at the table and the dealer deals you 4 aces. The 4 aces were; injuries to the Wings, Boston losing to Carolina in OT of game 7, no significant injuries to the Pens, and 2 sucessive game 7 victories.

I doubt that they will get rid of Todd and I honestly don't know who they could acquire for item #2 but oviously Patrick Marleau is not the guy.

The only question is do they exit in the first round or the second this year?

Wouldn't it suck to be a sharks fan....

Marleau and Cheechoo have to be on the market, even though I'd trade Choke Joe before either, but he's too good in the regular season and his name is Thornton afterall. It'll be interesting to see what they do.

Who would take Marleau at his salary?

Gainey.

When gainy sees a big contract, he will do anything to get it, if it means selling the farm thats even better. The man cant get enough. Best GM 09-10=Gainey, you wait and see.

That is one messed up kid! feel sorry for him.

Thing is his dad doesn't know that he bet the house that the sharks would get out of the first round.

I'd move Cheechoo in a heart-beat, but his cap number isn't so scary in the current world of hyper-inflated salaries (thanks NY, Philly and the rest of you who f***ed it up in the UFA retard rodeo of 07).

Thornton is whatever the opposite of Franzen is... he's like the anti-clutch. f*** him.

Trade Thornton to the Leafs- Burke is looking for a young franchise forward and the fans in Toronto would eat it up.

Thats one of the funniest things I've read on here in a long time!!!

Sad, true and hilarious!

Anyway, who the hell is going to want to inherit those kind of salaries?

Thornton for Heatley? For sure Marleau, he's near worthless as a captain and "elite forward".

The whole Heatley thing is rather pathetic. He wants a trade, they present a decent one to a team which will probably make the play-offs without him anyways, and he turns it down. He's a ******* class act. Edmonton could be a pretty decent team with Bulin and Heatley, but all these clowns like Hossa just bought their way to champions.
