So.....Mats Sundin.

Leading all time swedish scorer in a career that has spanned an eon!

what I was saying is his play in the last 7 or so seasons hasn't been all-star caliber. Toronto would have liked us to believe it was... but it wasn't.

He hasn't really been an all-star since the 90s. He's a consistent 70+ point right-handed centre, last year excluded. He's not really that great defensively I don't think, and he's lost a step in the last couple years it seems.

Not what this team needs.

If he were willing to sign for a low enough amount that we can get Huddles and Leino signed, would you want him as a one year rental?

Yes!

Great idea, lets sign him so he can figure out what he wants to do with the rest of his life. He may just need to find himself. He may just need to struggle thru an 82 game season, go thru the motions of the first couple of playoff rounds and maybe while karen Newman is singing at the start of the WCF, it will come to him that with his lifetime of hockey already, and his 100million dollars in the bank, and his new bride, he'd actually rather be chartering Tiger Woods' yacht in the Caribean right at that moment. Time for something different, you know.

Detroit Red Wings therapy session?

WTF?

And most Canuck fans are not excited to see him back in 09.

Wow. Settle down, that wasn't the idea.

And I'd rather have Drake back again than Moen. Moen seems to be the new name we overrate when we panic and want a grit player. Or Mike Grier lol. Mike Grier would do absolutely positively goddamn nothing to make us better than we are now. Now Chris Neil, that's a different story. He at least has some skill to go with it. He wouldn't be a liability. It's too late but still. I'd much, muuuuch rather have a player who isn't likely to cough up the puck in his own zone constantly than be gritty. A smart defensive forward is what I'd want. I wish we could've got to say, Madden first or someone like him.

I have a question, why are all the new members posting s***ty topics. Why are you even asking a question about Sundin.

Lmao did I forget to pray to you before I hit submit? It's a legit question. We may not retain Hudler and it's not impossible that Sundin, who certainly isn't indecisive or anything, may want a chance at a championship with us. I was genuinely curious to see the popular opinion on whether or not we should sign him under these circumstances.

Thanks for contributing by the way.

Jesus christ why would you want him. Sounds like you are playing too much NHL 09. I would rather Holland buy the team a years supply of KFC over Sundin.

I'd take Sundin for the right price, which is 2 mil or less on a one way deal. He started to look a bit better as time progressed and he got his legs. Who knows if he'd actually come here, but he brings leadership and a decent shot with him. Can't have enough of either of those things.

Buddy don't fish for an argument here. I never said I wanted him. I'll say it again. I was just genuinely curious to see who would sign him under the given circumstances because it's not impossible and it was a certain reality a year ago, so asking for opinions shouldn't need your approval.

And the universal answer so far isn't no so that's all the answer you need.

I feel the same way. One year deal, 2 mil or less. He'd fit in good with the other Swedes on the team. He'd fit in good on the second line with Franzen. He'd fit in good in the left circle on the powerplay. You're right, Sundin didn't look good last year because he missed half of it deciding where he wanted to play. Typically when any player sits out due to injury, contract or other reasons and come back in the middle of the year, they look lousy. He didn't look all that bad in the postseason putting up 3 goals and 5 assists in 8 games.

If Sundin really wants a shot at the Cup, he needs to play for the Wings and I think his presence will give us a much stronger chance of winning it next year.

I personally think we need to be done with rental players for a while. We have a lot of guys in our system it's just going to take time to get them developed and get them up here. I don't see Mats Sundin signing at a low enough price to get him and still be able to keep Hudler and Leino. Let's keep what we have and go with that for a while. Than in a few years if the status in the NHL gets better financially than we can start thinking about getting other big name players again.

Well with the cap situation going up and down right now, I'd say a rental player isn't a bad idea at the moment. I wouldsn't be opposed to slotting in Oulahen or Ritola from Grand Rapids, but at this point I think if we lose Huds, we might need to add some skill. If Hudler stays, I say just call up Abdelkader and forget taking on a free agent.
