Hossa: "Its great to be in a hockey town."

I'm also not going to run around touting how bad my fans are when that is a seriously overblown belief.

We have better fans than the majority of the NHL, and I find it irritating when people make sarcastic jobs at the fandom there is here in Detroit.

I'm not saying anything about fans I'm talking about the JOE LOUIS ARENA and the people that are/aren't there on any given night, the Joe is weak, for whatever reason, and definitely not better than most buildings in the NHL... definitely one of the worst to play in

I wouldn't consider second best home record in the West weak.

Every time I went to the Joe it was loud. Go to Atlanta, Florida, Tampa Bay. You'll see more Red Wings fans there. Those are quiet buildings.

In my opinion as someone from Chicago, these fans need to prove that they're not fair weather fans before Chicago can be called any type of hockey town. The team has been abandoned by its fans since the mid-90's.

Why the double standard? Detroit has never "prove(n) that they're not fair weather fans". When the Wings sucked, their fans and the city abandodned them. Wings games sell out not because Detroit has such awesome fans, but because the team is great

(and has been for a long time). The Joe (or Olympia, for that matter) did not sell out routinely when the Wings were a sub .500 team.

3 horrible examples, those are the jokes of the league when it comes to being a hockey city, you really want to use them to compare to Detroit?

and like I already said (feel like we've taken a step backwards here) if you feel that Detroit is rightfully #2 in attendance that's a joke... no one shows up to games and the crowd is boring as s***

Your opinion.

Whatever.

What were the Hawks numbers when their teams sucked?

True, but I think he'll be done after this next season. He'll be 39 at the end of next year, Maltby's contract will expire and most likely not be renewed, so I'm thinking that Drapes will call it quits after this year.

He'd better not. We're up against the cap as it is. If we have to pay for someone, they'd better be on the ice.

I do see him not re-signing after that. He's had a great career here, but I think he will be riding into the sunset. Just hope his last skate is holding up the Cup.

Re: Hossa being in a hockey town. Hey, if I was a pro hockey player, I'd want to end up in a hockey town as well. Not much chance for employment in a town with no team.

It would have been nicer had he said "a hockey city", or "a great place to play" or something that wasn't trademarked to the city he just left, even if he meant the same thing.

Oh, well. Much fuss about nothing. You can tell it's the off-season if this is news.

Exactly that's my opinion from the games I watch... don't call me out on it if you are just going to shrug me off when I respond to you

I'm calling you out on your sarcasm towards the hockey team, not your opinion.

You don't have to sound like an ass about it.

Breaking news, this just in:

Marian Hossa had a chicken enchilada on Friday night and said it was great, thus confirming his liking for Mexican food.

Marian Hossa had a margherita pizza on Satuday night and also said it was great, thus confirming his liking for Italian food.

As a result, Marian Hossa took a jab at Mexican food and is disallowed from all Mexican restaurants from this day forth.

LOL.

I swear, the bipolar nature of this place is almost comical. You want him gone, so he leaves. You all seriously remind me of the guys in school who would dump a girl and then when they'd see her with another guy, start talking s*** about her. You dumped her! She's free to move on! Let it go, you luddite.

Can't wait until the next playoff series where Z frustrates him to no end. "I'm Hank Zetterberg, *****! I gots the puck and you don't. Guess that's why I got a contract. Maybe the Lincoln Park Zoo will sponsor a playoff choker. Have fun pretending to be a Cubs fan. "

Yeah? Well I got her virginity and I ain't givin' it back.

Kind of like Hossa. No matter what lead up to the moment of truth and how enjoyable it was, you only remember whether or not it was enough to actually count for anything.

I'd rather have Z on Toews. He worries me more than Hossa.

I assumed that Hossa will play with Toews, perhaps ruining the chemistry he has with Kane much like he did to Pav and Z.

Z could repeat the same intensity he displayed against Crosby-Hossa in 08. Shouldn't be all that different.

Touche. It's the only proper response I can think of.

Doubtful, Kane already plays RW on the 1st line. I'm assuming Hossa will literally be plugged into Havlat's spot which was RW on the 2nd line with Bolland and Ladd or whoever else crazy Q sticks with him.

Regardless, I'd still rather see Z glued to Toews.

I wonder if we'll see Kopecky/Hossa...

Hossa was matched against the great Dave Bolland, Todd Marchant, and RJ Umberger if memory serves me right for the most part, He'd get eaten alive against Z if Crosbys not there giving him the puck (Not a shot at Toews, love him, but not Sids calibre.)

I agree with the person that noted that the Hockeytown thing is taken too seriously. You do realize Hockeytown is the Red Wings public relations committee's equivalent to Nike's "Just Do It" slogan right?

Also, the fans that are stating that the Joe is a rocking facility to attend games since 2000 on, simply are showing their lack of hockey 'worldliness'. It doesn't mean they're wrong, it just shows that we have lots of fans here that have only been to the Joe, and no other arenas.

Simply put, Joe Louis Arena on a Wednesday night in the regular season is the same decibal level as many AA or even OHL arena's in any Canadian City.

Also, Skacore and other fans on here including myself, are not being 'down on our team'. It's quite the opposite, we're simply pointing out that All-Star Caliber players can get a more unique and energy filled playing experience in other cities that are louder and more alive during the regular season.

Joe Louis Arena, or Detroit Hockey, quite characteristically has become a place IN THE REGULAR SEASON for businessmen or women to accomodate their clients and have a casual rapport while doing so.

I have said this for a very long time, but I know it to be true (source: my massive intellect), the Red Wings viewers on tv during the regular season are more knowledgable than 75% of those attending a hockey game in person. Many reasons.

I don't see anything wrong with his quote. People in Chicago loooove their Hawks. I actually went to a game there last year. I was impressed. I can see why he's excited.

Maybe they like their Hawks now, but a few years back when the Hawks sucked I was going to Chicago every few weekends and I couldn't even get them to put the game on in any of the bars. They didn't give a crap about the Hawks then.
