Guest Shoreline Report post Posted July 27, 2009 Pretty much but I'd rather hear Gary Thorne say "SHOT!" instead of Doc and his "DRIVE!" Although I kind of like Joe Beninati. True enough.

Yeah I'll take Thorne over Doc anyday. I'd also rather hear Bill Clement instead of that nutjob Pierre and his obsession of saying "Edzo" every sentence Edited July 27, 2009 by aw1340
titanium2 867 Report post Posted July 27, 2009 The depth of that team was quite something. Shanahan-Larionov-Lapointe Kozlov-Fedorov-Brown Sandstrom-Yzerman-McCarty Maltby-Draper-Kocur Definitely the best team among the four cup wins imo.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted July 27, 2009 The depth of that team was quite something. Shanahan-Larionov-Lapointe Kozlov-Fedorov-Brown Sandstrom-Yzerman-McCarty Maltby-Draper-Kocur Definitely the best team among the four cup wins imo. And the defence and goaltending was incredible as well. Lidstrom-Murphy Vladdy-Fetisov Rouse-Ward Vladdy, Rouse and Ward, jesus, back then Lidstrom and Murphy wouldnt have had to throw a single body check.

skacore 2 Report post Posted July 27, 2009 I'm not even sure if I got that right. Which one was the first line? And the second and third, etc.? there was no "first line" just ran 4 lines that all contributed.. draper's line would often start games but wouldn't be the "first line"...ahh back when we had a real checking line... It was no secret Hasek wanted the hell out of Buffalo (can't blame him), so they were lucky to get even Kozlov and a 1st round pick from Detroit.
Nev 1,085 Report post Posted July 29, 2009 Aah, great memories, thanks for posting. Funny how I clearly remember incidents from games 1 & 4, but nothing at all from 2 & 3! Kocurs sweet deke, Feds shot from inside the blue line, the scrum by the benches were the effects mike caught LeClair calling one of the Russians a "****ing commie B@stard". And what was up at the end? First there was no booing of Bettman And what was Yzerman doing leading the team in a handshake? Surely, after winning Detroits first cup in 42 years, after removing the monkey from his back that Detroit would never win a cup with him as captain, you would have thought he would have just wanted to celebrate with his team-mates, wouldn't ya? Inultus 12 Report post Posted July 29, 2009 I vaguely remember those games. I was just getting into hockey and McCarty was my favorite player, so seeing him get the GWG was heaven for me. Also, man Philly sucked major balls on defense. Hard to believe how many stupid turnovers they had. And their goalies sucked too. Osgood gets flack for letting in one long-range goal ever but both of Philly's goalies let in numerous shots that should have been stopped.
kook_10 1,705 Report post Posted July 29, 2009 I remember watching Joey Kocur roof that backhander in game 1 and thinking...if that is happening there is no way the Flyers could stop us!
titanium2 867 Report post Posted August 3, 2009 Everybody check this out. I love how at 6:03 of this video the whole Wings bench is up because they can just feel something's gonna happen. The Caps bench was probably all like, "What the hell are you all standing for you morons?"

Cern 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2009 (edited) I don't think I've ever seen a crowd as loud as the Joe was that series. What happened to the good hockey? *sigh* Wut? I got shivers down my spine this year's finals when Detroit's home crowd were chanting songs at the tail end of games. Should we seriously be dropping ourselves to Nashville's level and imply that it's impossible for us to get pumped unless someone's getting slammed into the boards? This team was the most offensively-charged squad in the league, it's only stopped becoming 'good hockey' if you've become more of an MMA fan than a hockey fan. Speaking of the singing, though, that's one of the things I wish other sports carried over from soccer. It would be ******* unreal if hockey fans made a regular tradition of chanting team songs (and songs specifically reworded against rival teams ). Arena atmosphere would be insane. It would be ******* unreal if hockey fans made a regular tradition of chanting team songs (and songs specifically reworded against rival teams ). Arena atmosphere would be insane. Why is the JLA so flat most of the time? I would like to argue that it's not because we're bored with the team's play and have nothing to get excited about, but because of all the awful music that gets pumped into the arena. Even if you think the music IS good, any time there is something that would get the crowd excited and give us some momentum, something comes over the P.A. like "CLAP CLAP, CLAP YOUR HANDS!" Sure, there are exceptions, but for big playoff games it's a lot easier for all 20K people to overcome their quietness. Come to Yost in Ann Arbor to see the country's best college or professional crowd
