rebuilding year?

listen guys i'm not panicing or anythig but i just feel like this may be a rebuilding year for the wings. not like a toronoto or an atlanta rebuilding year, but more of a "re-tooling" year. think about it, we got a bunch of rookies playing and it just doesn't feel like we're doing everything we can to have the best roster in the league right now.

also i think you have to throw in the fatigue factor, our boys have got to be tired and this year will only be worse. think about it..

07 final 4

08 cup champs

09 lose in game 7 in finals grrrr

10 short summer, start the year in sweeden, and over half of our team will play in the olympics!

it just feels like to me that kennys kinda chalkin up this season as a loss. i mean, we're obv goin to make playoffs, but it just feels like the boys are burnt out. maybe having only a decent year will make them more motivated for 10-11 when we have a lot of cap room, and more rest.

get ready for rebuilding years, maybe as many as 8-10 years in the wilderness.By that time the Pens will have caught up with the wings Stanley Cup totals. This will provide the wings with the desire to regain the prominace that they once had.

Holland signs an average player to an average salary and the majority of members here absolutely have lost their minds.

The Red Wings have won 4 Cups in 12 years. Made the playoffs in roughly 15 straight years.

Holland is not rebuilding and signing a so-so guy isn't going to make or break this year.

This forum needs to stop losing it's mind and get a grip.

If the Wings play with this roster all season they could sign a $2.5 million player at the deadline. If Lilja doesn't play this season, they'll have enough cap space to add roughly an $8.5 million player.

Note: All this is contingent on the injury situation throughout the season.

Last warning. You've were warned during the finals, and this type of flame-baiting isn't going to be tolerated.

No. As long as Ozzie is in net, this team can at least get to the 2nd round. The rest depends on the team, I really think Kenny will make moves at the deadline when more money is available, yes Williams is a horrible signing, but rebuilding year? No.

I'm more concerned with the sheer number of rookies on the roster for next season than Williams. Howard in particular, having him play 30+ games when his previous NHL experiments have been complete disasters makes me really nervous.

A lot of that will depend on how well the kids in GR have progressed through that point. If Kenny sees an abundance in one area or another, it most certainly makes making a move easier to deal with.

True, I could see Abdelkader here as a gritty tough presence, if a trade isnt in the best interest, and assuming he has a strong year in GR to that point. But on defence, I think Kenny may make a depth move there, and again that depends on if Liljas healthy or not.

also, we have like 16 mil in cap space for next year. i realize lidstrom has to be re-signed, but still, with holland signing all of these 1 year deals, you gotta believe hes hatching a master plan for next season when we have a bunch of cap space.....

For fun we should write down his words and send them to him when the Pens are unsuccessful at defending the Cup.

I'm not sure I get this...rookies like Cleary, Datsuk, Zetterburg, Franzen, Holmstrom, Filpula, Kronwall, Lidstrom, Stuart, Rafalski, Lilja(we'll see what happens with him), and Meech? Yes, we have some younger guys playing but that includes Helm, Abdelkader and Ericsson who may be young but have shown they can contribute beyond their years of experience. Just about all the players I named are players any team in teh league would try to build a roster around. OK, so we picked up a couple 3rdd or 4th liners like Williams...but they do not define the team and they'll be fine in the roles they are there to fill. We've also got some good talent sitting in Grand Rapids still.

This is not a rebuilding year. A retooling year? I think every year is a retooling year for a good team that tries to be in it every year.

EDIT: And as far as fatigue, these are pro athletes, they are not tired. They looked tired in the finals because there were alot of injuries. Lidstrom was playing after he had his nuts operated on...of course he'll be tired...Datsuk was still roughed up, etc.

One problem: What player worth 8.5 mil is gonna be a free agent near the deadline? The only one I would say has a shot at that is Sundin, and if he waits that long to sign again would we really want him?

No, No, No.....Kenny's clearly a moron. Just read the boards today and you'd think the guy never did a single thing right his entire career.

The fact of the matter is that I don't care for the Williams signing either, I see what Kenny's doing. Through the emotion out and one can really see things much clearer.

Nice post, btw.

Just because we didn't sign a big name free agent it is suddenly a rebuilding year?

Do you know how many teams would LOVE to be as stacked with talent as the Wings are?

Please.

No, there won't be many (if any) players being moved that make that kind of money, however I was merely letting people know the Cap room Kenny will be dealing with if he so chooses to make a move.

At this point, I don't necessarily think we'll win the Cup this year but I wouldn't go so far as to call it a rebuilding year at all. It's definitely not the ideal team they'd like to be icing every night, but it's still a very strong team and we'll be competitive and compete. There are 8 teams that will make the playoffs in the West and I think you'll see the most evenly matched 8 teams we've seen maybe ever. It's going to be a really exciting season of HOCKEY in general to watch. If we win it this year it'll feel great because it'll be a hell of a battle to get there. The soonest this team MAYBE will have an actual rebuilding year is the year after Lidstrom retires. MAYBE!

The team last year was worse defensively than the year before. Yet Hossa backchecked his ass off. I bet we see a tighter defensive team this year, which might be why Kenny added the players he did.

Whats this?! Someone who is making sense?! Didn't you get the memo that rational thought isn't allowed on LGW today?
