rebuilding year?

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

I can see this as being a rebuilding year, I mean anything can happen and I think that a deal will probably get done close to the deadline. We will still have a strong team and I think they could still contend for the Cup. We can't expect to get the Cup every year and I know we don't .(it would be nice.... for a while.) We may have to deal with the fact that we may not be Champions again for a few more years.

Let's not jump to conclusions yet but we shouldn't be suprised if we don't get the Cup this season again. I'll be happy if we can get another Cup within 3 to 5 years. We'll just have to see what happens.

What are you trying to say? We will contend for the cup or we won't? Pick one or the other...

hahahahah. Funny

There is a bit of a problem with that though.

They have a $22.4M cap hit comitted to 3 guys until 2012-2013 so they cannot add significant talent and they traded away their best prospects to get Hossa so how exactly are they going to win all these cups?

How else?

Same way they won the last one.

not like a toronoto

Can you name the truck with four wheel drive,

smells like a steak and seats thirty-five..

Toronoto! Toronoto!

Well, it goes real slow with the hammer down,

It's the country-fried truck endorsed by a clown!

Toronoto! (Yah!) Toronoto!

The Federal Highway comission has ruled the

Toronoto unsafe for highway or city driving.

Toronoto!

12 yards long, 2 lanes wide,

65 tons of American Pride!

Toronoto! Toronoto!

Top of the line in utility sports,

Unexplained fires are a matter for the courts!

Toronoto! Toronoto! (Yah!)

She blinds everybody with her super high beams,

She's a squirrel crushing, deer smacking, driving machine!

Toronoto!-oh woah, Toronoto! (Yah!)

Drive Toronoto!

Woah Toronoto!

Woah!

Yes we can and we should. It's what we do as Red Wings fans. We expect greatness every year and if you were to ask Kenny he wouldn't expect otherwise because if we're wrong, so what? If we're right, well, then you really gotta like the upside to that option.

i disagree with that. as a fan, i am happy if we win 6 playoff games. that is a successful season to me. that means we made it out of the first round and didn't get swept/embarrased in the second round. i am not selfish, i know we won't win the cup every year. obviously i would love it if we did, but i don't expect it. i do agree the players and organization need to always want to win the cup, or else what are they doing out there? but as a fan that has little to no impact on how the team performs, i find it works much better with realistic expectations.

Guess what all the free agents we lost have in common? None of them scored a single goal in the SCF!! Can we calm down please and stop acting like the wings are going to be bad next season?

I like reading and hearing about how people think the Wings are going to be bad for the upcoming year. That usually precedes a great season with a bunch of Wings haters saying "Damn it!! I hate that team so much!!"

In 17 seasons the Wings haven't finished lower than 6th overall, or 3rd in our conference. (We were a 4th seed once, but only because St.Louis won our division and the President's trophy that year...the Wings actually had the 2nd best record in the league.)

We've retooled our lines many times over that span, including a transition in top forwards from Fedorov, Yzerman, Shannahan to Pav and Hank, and adjusted to the new salary cap era.

'Rebuilding year' for the Wings just means we're not the odds-on favorite, but still a legit contender. By that standard, yeah, this might be a rebuilding year.

listen guys i'm not panicing or anythig but i just feel like this may be a rebuilding year for the wings. not like a toronoto or an atlanta rebuilding year, but more of a "re-tooling" year. think about it, we got a bunch of rookies playing and it just doesn't feel like we're doing everything we can to have the best roster in the league right now.

also i think you have to throw in the fatigue factor, our boys have got to be tired and this year will only be worse. think about it..

07 final 4

08 cup champs

09 lose in game 7 in finals grrrr

10 short summer, start the year in sweeden, and over half of our team will play in the olympics!

it just feels like to me that kennys kinda chalkin up this season as a loss. i mean, we're obv goin to make playoffs, but it just feels like the boys are burnt out. maybe having only a decent year will make them more motivated for 10-11 when we have a lot of cap room, and more rest.

The team is still one of the best in the league, with one of the best coaches in the league and several of the best players in the league. A rebuilding year suggests a reconstruction of the team's roster. We are not seeing that.

It sounds as if you've already decided that the team is not going to meet your expectations this year, though it seems to me that your expectations encompass the arena of total dominance---this is the only way to justify your reference to this season as one of 'rebuilding', a notion for which fans of just about any other team would call you insane. I'll chalk your attitude off to defensive pessimism.

While that is true. You have to let reality set in know that we aren't going to win a Cup every year. You have to expect greatness out of your team every year that is what makes a fan but it's the simple fact of it's NOT going to happen every year. We shouldn't have expected to win the Cup this past season and we didn't. You can keep your hopes high but you have to keep your feet on the ground as well. There are 29 other teams in the NHL and a lot of them are getting stronger every year.

We have a great team and yes we should expect great things from them every year but sometimes you have to settle for winning some battles so that you can win the War later. That's what make a rebuilding team. Build on small accomplishments. Just like I said in my theard Still Champions. We should take the fact that we were Central Division Champions and Playoff Confernce Champions and we build on that.

It doesn't mean that well we were that close this past season so this season we'll win it. It doesn't always happen. I love the fact that fans expect great things from their team(s). But from where I'm coming from I don't want to misconstrew that expectation with arragance and ignoracy. As for the person that said Pick one (refering to being Contenders or not). I belive that we are Cup conteders every year but that doesn't mean we are going to win it every year that is what I meant when I said we will and we won't contend for the Cup this coming season. Sorry for the mix-up.

Exactly.

I'm not sure what this "fatigue" is that people are talking about. I tend to think a lot of these things taht sports fans think "fatigue" their players really don't. So they've had 3 long Cup runs? Montreal has done more than that in their history. I don't see any reason why these guys can't put together an amazing Cup run again this year.

On paper we're still one of the best teams in the league individually, then add in Babcock, the System, and Holland at the trade deadline and we're basically one of the top 3, if not the best.

I still fully want and expect the Wings to make a long playoff run. They don't make excuses like "well, we're bored with Finals."

I don't think anyone seriously thinks we will win the Cup every year. We expect to be a legitimate contender every year. We expect a team that can win the Cup. Once we have a team that can win, there's nothing wrong with being confident that they will. That's not really the same as expecting them to win every year.

Teams do not rebuild with an expectation of winning the Cup. Teams rebuild to become contenders. To become what we have been for a decade and a half and counting. From that point it's drive, effort, and luck (and maybe some small tweaks) that makes a champion. Also, not expecting to lose.
