lol, someone should totally add the mario bros star music and some effects to this vid:

And to think we are gonna have Helm available the entire season this year. As far as Bert goes, I don't think we'll be able to determine if this a good signing or not until the end of the season. IF he can stay relatively healthy this could be a positive signing.

I know cause he was so expen-- oh wait........I mean, he had such low points last ye--- oh yea.......well, blah blah blah Moore, blah blah blah evil blah blah blah. Seriously, how is he a washed up loser again?

Big, solid, veteran with killer hands who can actually push back for an awesome price.

WTF is there not to like?

well since i was a season ticket holder for the QC flames last year, i closely followed Calgary to watch our former players up there. and in that time, i don't think i talked with 1 Flames fan that liked Bertuzzi. he was infamous for his back passes that led to turnovers. he was infamous for his lack of effort. he was infamous for his stupid penalties; his lazy defensive play; his lack of chemistry with anyone on the roster. shall i go on?

and just to be on the record, the moore incident has NOTHING to do with my opinion. i actually think he got a raw deal out of all that. but thats not for this thread. i did want to say that my opinion wasn't some tarnished one because i am steve moore's 3rd cousin and will forever hate bertuzzi or something.

i think this team would be better served by keeping his roster spot open for young players. i think the team would be better served by keeping more cap space available.

p.s. he may be big and beefy, but hasn't been physical for a while now. he can't have a physcial presence because every time he touches someone he ends up in the box.

also, i don't like this move because i don't think he fit very well here the 1st time. it was a limited amount of games, so thats why that reasoning is down here at the end. but i think its a factor as well.

Yea how about that Kris Draper...tearing it up with 17 points in 79 games and -13 himself. Top PKer and defensive forward right?

sorry, you lost me. I thought we were talking about our new aquisition, Todd Bertuzzi.

I was answering about what not to like.

Your come back is to change the subject?

But you did point something out, Bert was -13 in only 66 games. What would it have beem in 82?

Yea you're absolutely right, lets argue semantics, after all it's well known that +/- is completely indicative of the usefulness of every single player in the NHL.

What the hell does that have to do with Bertuzzi. Bert was -13 in 66 games last year and that sucks. Ok he's cheaper than Draper, but he still sucks defensively.

He played on a brutal team too, calgarys GAA was even behind detroit if i remember correctly.

My opinion...

...but I'd like to see what Bert can do for an entire season with this much talent on both sides of the blue line around him. He is big, only 34, and had a respectable NHL season for Calgary last year, a team that did not exactly have all their ducks in a row.

I think this will be a much better showing this time around, and I think we might be mildly surprised. Also, for all of those people asking for grit, this should make us happy with Big Rig and Bert in the lineup....two guys who can and will drop the gloves should make more room for the skill guys out there, and as others have stated, he should be motivated.

It could backfire, but I doubt it will.

So that's your answer? +/- doesn't mean much? Wow.

I guess you can ignore the numbers that don't support your argument.

semantics?

I have mixed emotions on this one. I like that they got another goal scorer for under market value. But I don't like pushing so much to cap that we need to rely on Lilja being unhealthy to fit under cap.

I like his production last season, but it scares me that after he hurt his back in january he played 32 games getting 4 goals and 13 points...that being said...if he is healthy its a great move, but the second that back goes wonky its not such a great move...

I don't get why the consensus seems to be that this is a great signing and Williams is a bad signing. Williams had the same amount of offensive production just about and is 29 without a history of injuries, whereas bertuzzi has had an inability to play a full season of hockey in 3 seasons.

They are equally decent moves, that both come with an undermarket value but strings attached.

Hopefully they both work out, but I am still skeptical about Berts ability to play a full season staying healthy, and that 32 gp 4g 13points scares the s*** out of me, because if he gets hurt early in the year instead of mid season, we will get those stats for the majority of the season, not half of it.
