40#1Fan 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2009 http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2009/10/st...wings_defe.html St. James: Former Red Wings defenseman Chris Chelios to end pro career as member of Chicago Wolves By George Malik October 08, 2009, 12:59PM The Free Press's Helene St. James posted a post-script in her blog entry about the newest Red Wing, Brad May, by talking about the fate of the "oldest" former Red Wing who still plans on playing hockey on a competitive basis: October 8, Detroit Free Press: Chris Chelios is expected to sign with the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League. I know Chelios talked about that possibility during training camp and the exhibition season, and it makes sense at this point. He can end his career in his hometown while playing for the AHL's equivalent of the Red Wings in terms of year-to-year dominance, he might impress the Atlanta Thrashers' brass, and he can both be a little closer to his parents and remain an 45 minute flight from his family and businesses in his adopted hometown--Metro Detroit. Superman54 91 Report post Posted October 8, 2009 (edited) I wish Cheli would retire, but I defiantly respect the fact he still has so much love for the game, and still wants to play at his age. Edited October 8, 2009 by Superman54
MotorCityMadness 388 Report post Posted October 8, 2009 oh good something to look forward to when I am home on breaks and able to go see the Wolves 4-5 times!
thegerkin 189 Report post Posted October 8, 2009 Good luck back in Chicago, Cheli. Was great having you play in Hockeytown for what, 9, 10 years? I honestly would rather see him retire, but if he has the drive to still play, again, good luck to you!
cjm502 165 Report post Posted October 8, 2009 Hey, he will get decent ice time down there. He will prob enjoy it more than he did in the NHL the last few years too. Good for him.
miller76 463 Report post Posted October 8, 2009 I think he needs to come to reality, and realize he probably wont have a solid chance at playing professional hockey with his son Dean.
Rivalred 630 Report post Posted October 8, 2009 Best of luck to you Cheli! Even if he can not play at the NHL level, playing at some form of competitive level has to be reassuring.
GMRwings1983 8,803 Report post Posted October 8, 2009 Well, I guess it's better than the KHL. I'd still rather see him out there screwing up rather than Lebda.
CenterIce 83 Report post Posted October 9, 2009 Well, I guess it's better than the KHL. I'd still rather see him out there screwing up rather than Lebda. Maybe he really wanted to play with Legace.
ChitownWingsfan 54 Report post Posted October 9, 2009 The Wolves are a good organization, almost completely different fanbase than the Hawks. I'll definitely have to make a trip to the Rosemont to catch a Wolves game now.

C-TownWing 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2009 +1 The man obviously loves the game, and wants to play. You cant hate him for that. +2. He doesn't owe it to anyone to retire before he wants to. If he wants to keep playing and someone's willing to pay him to do it, I say you go Cheli! Hopefully they get this finalized. Still remember how when we traded for him, it was widely assumed that he'd play a couple years for us and retire. And here we are over a decade later.
