I don't really mind where Howard is at right now. He definitely has a problem with rebound control, but he also has less than 20 games of NHL experience so I don't expect him to be perfectly sound. As long as he is there to stop the first shot the team realizes they need to prevent the second shots from getting to the net. As Howard plays more games there will be less and less opportunities for opponents to capitalize on rebounds.

I'm willing to give the kid a couple years as a backup, as long as he keeps progressing.

Yep, Howard could be a good NHL goalie, but he needs to work on his rebound control if he wants to last in the league. Granted, he can get away with the lack of control when the Wings have their defense in order (like tonight), but it will bite him in a big way if the D fails in front of him.
