Wings_Toledo 233 Report post Posted November 15, 2009 I really like the way the team is playing right now. It seems like they're really playing with a defense-first mindset and that's helping to get the offense going.

dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted November 15, 2009 it's gonna take a miracle for us to make the playoffs.. lower your expectations guys, this is gonna be a struggle of a year where we will have to win games 2-1, not like last year when we had hat-tricks left and right. CMatt89 63 Report post Posted November 15, 2009 I really think this lineup is the toughest we're going to see this year. I mean, 8 of 12 forwards are North American and 3 of 6 defenseman.....that's unheard of in Detroit haha. But really, Miller, Helm, Abdelkader, May, Eaves, and Draper make up the 3rd and 4th lines...they all have speed, they all hit, they go into the corners and are responsible, or getting better at being defensively responsible. Whats going to happen when Williams, Franzen, and Fil come back..This current lineup has great chemistry.

Franzen-Datsyuk-Cleary Bertuzzi-Zetterberg-Holmstrom Leino-Filp-Williams Draper-Helm-Eaves This is what happens! Well im not really sure, but this looks amazing. All of those lines can hang with almost any other teams top line on the ice IMO. Now THATS depth!
Miss Wing Queen 154 Report post Posted November 15, 2009 it's gonna take a miracle for us to make the playoffs.. lower your expectations guys, this is gonna be a struggle of a year where we will have to win games 2-1, not like last year when we had hat-tricks left and right. The team is playing really great right now, but like Mickey said, we can't expect them to score 7 or 9 goals each night. Most games are going to be like Vancouver 3-1, tight, grind out games. However, we don't necessarily need to lower our expectations or worry about the playoffs just yet. Let's just enjoy watching our team gel and learn how to work with one another. They may still go through rough patches in the coming months, but they've learned a lesson from the embarassment they suffered in October, and I think that is what gives them the drive to get back in the game like they did tonight. They don't want to experience that feeling of "Oh, no, here we go again." And they didn't have "hat tricks left and right" last year--we haven't had one since 08 until Z's tonight. Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted November 15, 2009 Franzen-Datsyuk-Cleary Bertuzzi-Zetterberg-Holmstrom Leino-Filp-Williams Draper-Helm-Eaves This is what happens! Well im not really sure, but this looks amazing. All of those lines can hang with almost any other teams top line on the ice IMO. Now THATS depth! I wouldn't shift the line-mates that aren't impressing alongside Datsyuk down to Zetterberg. Leave the Zetterberg line as intact as possible in light of the success they've had ever since they were put together. They haven't had a bad game since. Also, the Filppula line above was great in the preseason and in Sweden, but hasn't produced since. I think it's safe to shake them up. I'd go with: Franzen-Datsyuk-Holmstrom Leino-Zetterberg-Cleary Bertuzzi-Filppula-Williams Draper-Helm-Eaves

They just look poised and ready for anything coming they're way. I've noticed a trend with the Wings over the years no matter how they start in Oct, good/bad . From about the last week in Oct through til late Nov. the team gets it going. That's when the team won 9 in a row 2 out of the last 3 years since 2006. I think we woulda had one last year but the Pens beat us 7-6 in OT last Nov. I'll never forget that game.

Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted November 15, 2009 Actually, I do like that a bit more. I was trying to keep Z and Dats together, but with those 2 plus helm and drapes on the same line it was tough. Yeah, while I prefer keeping Dats and Hank together, I think having them always play together on the PP will help keep the chemistry going between them. Right now we just don't have a the extra elite forward to hold the 2nd line together. I suppose we could do this when everyone is back, though: Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Holmstrom Franzen-Filppula-Cleary Bertuzzi-Williams-Leino Draper-Helm-Eaves The problem there is that Williams is a crappy centre on the Wings because he's not responsible enough defensively. Even without Draper and Helm glued together we lack a quality 3rd line centre. Helm could do it but he doesn't provide the offensive upside Filppula does when he's on the 3rd. Plus, Helm is waaaaayyy more dangerous when he's with other guys who can keep up with his insanely fast skating. Right now the big concern is either getting Bertuzzi's shot selection and timing back or getting someone else up with Datsyuk who can actually do something with the puck when handed it. I'm sick of seeing Bertuzzi hold the puck or try and pass it when Datsyuk hands him a brilliant scoring chance on a platter. Bertuzzi's a great guy to bull around, but he doesn't seem to have the hockey sense you'd want from a guy who's going to be Datsyuk's goal-puppet.

cupforwings 138 Report post Posted November 15, 2009 Sarcasm detector fail. ha, i was being optimistic from that pessimistic comment... i guess i just don't get why people think it will take a "miracle" for us to MAKE the playoffs... i mean, we are not as dominate as last year, but we are not terrible by any means... they are 7-1-1 in their last 9 and are 1 point out of the lead for the central... he just makes no sense

The give away that he was being sarcastic was when he remarked that they got hat-tricks all the time last year (noting that the Wings didn't score a single hat-trick last year).
