Is Kindl Going To Be Called Up?

I watch the Wings like my life depends on it, but I don't get to catch as much AHL hockey as I'd like. For anyone who has watched ihm this season, do you think Kindl will get at least a few games? Kronner won't miss more than 2 months by the sounds of it(knock on wood), and Kindl seems to be playing well enough in the AHL. He's 22 years old and has had quite awhile to work on his stuff. It might be time to get him some NHL minutes.

Couldn't be much worse than Lebda or Meech could it? Lebda couldn't be having a worse season. I used to like the guy but I've gotta be honest about it-he's causing more goals against than any one individual I can remember who isn't named Hatcher. The little things he's screwing up on are causing scoring chances. I'd confidently say we'd have probably 4 or more wins this season if Lebda played anywhere but here.

And also, this may be a good rest. I say Kronner takes the Olympics off as well, and most of our team if they're hurt or tired should as well. We've played in a ton of games over the past 3 years, this may be a painful but helpful rest for guys like Mule, Flip, Kronner and Williams. We should have them all back at some point, so we're going to get nothing but stronger later on. We're all worrying our hair out of our heads right now, but no one wants to face us in the playoffs with those 4 back, healthy and rested.

Anyway, think Kindl will come up? Because I dunno if my heart can take a Lebda/Meech pairing. I did like what I saw from Janik also, he was very reserved, just played a solid Stuart type stay at home game. I can live with that if need be.

Janik is more likely. He's already played a game with the Wings this season, and from what I hear, Kindl isn't ready yet, even though he's close.

IMO the pairs will be:

Lidstrom-Rafalski

Stuart-Ericsson

Janik-Lebda

Yeah I immediately figured Janik would be up. I just get hopeful I'll get to see Kindl for maybe a game or two.

I could see..

Lidstrom - Ericsson

Rafalski - Stuart

Janik - Lebda

I think a move to the top pair would do Rig well, and getting Janik beside Lebda would slightly help him out. Ericsson and Lebda don't mesh whatsoever. Janik's a more stay at home guy with solid fundamentals, which makes up for Lebda's mistakes a tad more than Ericsson does. Ericsson needs a partner at this point in his young career that won't f*** up every 3 minutes, and Lebda needs a guy to help contrl his f*** ups.

I was under the impression that when Janik was called up last time that he was called up because Kindl was hurt? I can't be 100% certain, but I thought that was the reasoning. IMO I would rather have Janik up anyway.

Lids/Raf

Stuart/Ericcson

Janik/Lebda (or Meech both are average at best)

Those are the D pairings that I would like to see.

Ericsson won't play on the first line. Babcock has confidence in him, but not that much.

Ken and Larry said Kindl would be next to be called up.

Ken and Larry obviously are the sources of all Red Wings news.

He's played on the first pairing with Lids in the playoffs. I doubt it would hurt us for the next 3 weeks or so. It could be the boost Ericsson needs. Lidstrom throughout his career has made anyone playing beside him better and Ericsson's played his best next to Nick.

This for a few weeks, hurts our PP even more. Nick and Raf man the first unit obviously but man, we're going to have to go with Stuart and.......who? Who shoots right handed that isn't injured? Are we just gonna say screw it and put Ericsson back there with Stuart for lack of other options?

He's just saying what they said, relax.

That was when Rafalski was out.

For the PP, we were rotating Lids/Rafalski and Lids/Ericsson, though I thought I saw Stuart out there with Ericsson as well. I see no issue with running Lids/Rafalski and Stuart/Ericsson.

That was for the individual minors. We were playing every D pair during the 6 minute set of minors.

Well they are right. He will be the next callup.

Just saying what I heard on the broadcast tonight. Does it mean he'll play? IDK. But the Original Poster asked a question and I offered some info.

I've watched a pretty good portion of Kindl's games so far this year. He would certainly be a improvement over Lebda, but for future considerations it would be in Kindl's best intrest to continue to play first line minutes in GR and do his best to improve his defensive issues. He has games were he looks amazing, and then the next game has turnovers + blown coverages. At the start of the season he was very mediocre the last 5-6 games though he has picked up his game. Janik has been very impressive so far this year and I think would be a better option for what the Wing's need in a 6th Dman. Kindl is better served being the main defenseman in GR and improve on consitency because when he does get called up eventually he is going to be expected to play a more prominent role then 6th-7th D.

i agree with Carman, at this point with Kronner looking to be out for a month, theres no reason to call him up as a 7th dman and let him sit for that period instead of playing him in GR for 20+ mins a game.

Calling Kindl close to being NHL ready is pretty generous.

Let's put it this way-- he can play the offensive game but he's going to be a train-wreck defensively at this point. We're lucky he's only 22 years old and he's got more talent than you can shake a stick at.

He played with Lidstrom in the finals too. Towards the end Babs would do it time Rafalski had a brutal turnover.

Remember the guy who scored the only goal in game 7? That incredibly clutch kid? That was Ericsson playing with Lidstrom.

Regardless of why, it worked. Very, very well. And in spite of my opinion that Raf gets too much hate around here, he's lost a slight step. He and Stuart have made a good pair recently and they might see it as sometihng that'll benefit Ericsson. They may rather try Lids and Ericsson than Ericsson and Stuart, which may not work too well. Raf and Stuart will be solid but Ericsson and Stuart is a slight step down from the potential Nick could give the top pairing.

Yeah Ericsson's just gotta know when to go for the keep in and when to skate back. That's a vet thing that our guys usually learn after watching Nick and Raf. Kronner's quietly improved on that greatly over the past few years. I'm actually really pleased with how he's come along. I'm starting to feel confident with him as our #1 in a few years if need be. Anyway, Ericsson's young and all gung-ho so and sometimes gets caught trying to keep a puck in and it ends up in a 2 on 1. It'll also be extra worse seeing as how Stuart isn't the swiftest skater in the world. This might keep us from going to the net with our forwards more, and keeping guys like Pav and others around the mid range.

And ya, Stuart was out there. Looked a little rusty but oh well.

Kindl may be a defensive liability, but man, so are Meech and Lebda. I was just thinking maybe have Janik up for a game, then Kindl up for one game, that sorta thing. We should be used to that, our team does it all the time. I agree Kindl should work on his game in the AHL, that's always important, but one game int he big leagues may help in many different ways. Good for perspective, break out of the routine for a day. I think even just one game does wonders for a kid, beyond what we see on TV.

And hey, we're playing Nashville in a couple of days. If there's a worse offensive team than them, I'd like to see them. That may be a good way to let him get broken in. He won't have to worry about very much in the way of odd man rushes and serious pressure playing a team like that for a small few minutes, for one night.

This. Stuart is the perfect fit for E. He is a good defensive dman with a great all around skill set. Janik has plenty of experience to ensure the 3rd pairing wont be worthless too.

People really need to start watching some Grand Rapids games!

Janik has been by far the most solid defenseman in the AHL for us this season. If anyone gets called up (which they wont because Holland said they'll just use Meech *expletive*) it will be Doug.

As much as I would like to see Kindl in action, Janik has been great for the Griffins. He's been by far their best defenseman, and looked solid in the game he played for the Wings. Like someone said, they're likely to play Meech... but when they doesn't work out I hope they turn to Janik, or give Kindl a taste of some AHL action.

That being said, Kindl is finally doing well in the AHL. He's got 10 points and is a PLUS (+3) for once. I think it's important to keep his confidence level up at the minor pro level.
