Nice job here by Mac, Kocur and Yzerman.

Mac and Kocur doing what should be expected of every single hockey player everywhere, enforcer or not - stick up for your teammates.

Yzeraman, doing what should be expected of every person everywhere - stand up for yourself. This is one of the myriad of reasons he was a great leader. Men cannot be expected to respect a man who does not respect himself. Good on ya, Stevie!

Dishonorable mention goes to Uwe Krupp. Dude was huge and strong, but was also a weak, gutless coward, always keeping himselfsafe from the big meanies. I'm glad he's gone, but I suspect he sent a letter to Franzen, sharing all his secrets.

Damn, that's the first I've ever seen Stevie do something like that. I like it!

Stevie had a bit of a temper - he claims to have started his famous scrap with Kevin McGuire, he picked a fight with Cheli once (in responce to a gutless cheapshot by dirty Cheli), and he attempted to start at least two other fights that I recall. Yzerman was not a pacifist, not a quiet leader, and not a coward. He was not above getting dirty and starting a fight, even if he knew he would lose (McGuire). He was a great Captain. You can't be a great captain and be unwilling to do what's right or afraid to lose some blood.

As much as I like the Wings retaliation in that clip - this should be posted in a Stars forum. They completely got Yzerman off his game, and proceeded to kick the Wings ass that night.

Good for Stevie for dropping them though.

I get where you're going with this... Franzén wasn't really injured in that Chicago game, he got hurt dogsled-racing (or whatever it was...). Also, Krupp was much bigger compared to the rest of the players in the league in his heyday than Franzén is now.

I wish enforcer and skill forward didn't evolve to become polar opposites over the last decade.

i love it!

Not to start a debate here, but what McCarty does right after the hit strikes me as very similar to the Bertuzzi incident, only with different results.

It was more spontaneous.

Bertuzzi's was more planned and deliberate. Also, Yzerman is a better captain than Naslund. :D

Nope, I was talking about the way Franzen conducts himself on the ice when he's healthy - he's too much of a coward to stick up for himself or his teammates - unlike the much smaller, much more skilled steve Yzerman.

Franzen is not the biggest guy in the league, but he is a big guy even by today's standards and is a couple inches taller and 20 or so pounds heavier than guys like say, Iginla.

Toughest guy pound for pound that will EVER play hockey, and that is FACT.

Tie Domi was tougher, as was Stan Jonathan. There were others, too.

Kocur wasn't really small at all at 6'0. Especially for his era.

I'm just curious. Where did you get your FACT from that Kocur was the toughest pound for pound?

I personally think a prime Kocur would beat the s*** out of a prime Domi

Maybe, but I'm saying Domi was better pound for pound. Kocur isn't generally considered one of the best pound for pound fighters, which is why I was surprised at the guy's post.

Ironically, the two men never fought each other if I'm not mistaken.
