What are the chances Babcock were to get fired?

What if the Wings-

Didn't get 100 points

Didn't win 40+ games

Finished last in PK

Continued to struggle defensively

Lose the division

DO NOT MAKE THE PLAYOFFS (or lose in the first round)

Mike Illitch doesn't take s*** from no one.

Nooo Way he gets fired. Who would possibly replace him. We were told to LOWER our expectations by the Red Wng Office and I can see why. This year is going to be like this. WE may sneak into the playoffs and then anything is possible. There is no way Babcock gets fired.

Babs is the best coach and the most proven and accomplished coach in the NHL today.

3 Cup appearances- 1 Cup

Jack Adams finalist

2 WJHC gold medals with Canada

Succesful WHL coaching career

Provincial champions while at Red Deer College(coach of the year)

Playoff record 59-30

2 to 1 win loss ratio for regular season

Head coach Team Canada

Must I go on?

Ilitch may not take s*** but nobody is trying to feed it to him Babs is the best coach in the league. I would bet my house on the fact that he will see Babs through till the end. I'm sure all our injuries isn't being over looked at the top.

I don't think he'll get fired. Though, I'm a little surprised by his attitude lately. In the post-game interviews he seems completely content with our play. He keeps asserting the notion that everyone is playing well and that we'll be rewarded soon enough. I know the new guys are young and all, but perhaps he should push them a little?

He's the most successful coach in the last 5 years, by miles. He's not going to panic now. December, maybe. I think new assistant coaches would be a good idea. Injuries is why this team is faltering. We have bottom 6 forwards wasting Datysuk and Zetterberg's talent. Bertuzzi is a major bust, Homer is one dimensional, Williams and Eaves kind of suck.

We'll be fine once we get the Mule back.

I think Babs has enough respect in this league that if he be given the option to leave on his own rather than get fired. He isnt going anywhere anyways. He is way too good of coach.

This makes me sad :( You made me relive my summer nightmare again.

Homer's been one dimensional for a decade now. :P He's still the best at what he does.

I would take Babcock back in a second.. plus the babcock stare of death is awesome

Can it really be a stare of death if it's his normal facial expression?

I just think that he had a really sarcastic family growing up.

When he frowned, his family would be like, "aw, little Mikey is smiling!" so he thinks that's a smile now.

Seriously, it could happen!

Thanks for the thread, I needed a laugh this morning.

No way Babs will get fired. Mr. I knows his team as well as Babs does. They have problems at the moment, but they will be fine. I am looking forward to seeing the Wings come from where they are now to the top of the heap in the playoffs.

They will do it. :) And Babs will be behind the bench.

I think that you have your sports mixed up. You mean Rich Rodriguez right?

Rich is the best thing that has happened to MSU football in many years. I hope he stays forever!

Go green, go white!

Since Babcock has joined the team (I believe 5 years now?) we've made the SC finals twice, the Western Conference Finals 3 times, and his first year here the team nearly broke records in the regular season. He's not going to get fired because the team struggles after losing half its offense and a bunch of its main players out with long term injuries.

He's doing the best he can with what he has, which isn't much at this point.

The chances of Mike Babcock getting fired after this season are about as great as the OP's chances of being hired as his replacement.

In the offseason we lost Marian Hossa in order to sign Franzen. We also lost Sammuelson, so Holland went out and signed Williams to replace him. We also lost Kopecky, so Holland picked up Eaves/Bertuzzi, and Hudler bolted for Russia, so Filppulla was expected to take a bigger role.

Franzen is injured, Williams is injured, Bertuzzi is looking like a bad signing, Filppulla is injured, so that takes care of all the replacements, but additionally, Lilja is still out giving us a flawed third defensive pairing, and now Kronwall is out, giving us a flawed second defensive pairing. It is hardly the coach's fault that we are floating around .500 right now.
