I can't believe Bowman isn't in there.

Again... it's a decade list, not all-time. Though I will say Bowman's got about equal right of being on this list as Ovie/Sidney did on the other.

Funny how just about all these guys were fired at some point in this decade.

:D

Shows you what life for an NHL coach is like. Being good and being fired aren't that much different from each other.

All coaches are hired to be fired unless your in little league.

I'm sorry... Quenville at 2? Did I miss something?

The article makes sure to note he got voted there because of his first-half decade accomplishments.

Trying to be as detached as possible, I see Babcock as going down as one of the great coaches ever. He reminds me more of someone like Bowman than any of the other clowns in the league right now. Three Finals appearances in 7 years, 4 Conference Finals, only missing playoffs once with a s***ty team and only failing to pass the first round once is a huge accomplishment.

And to those who say he had stacked teams: Detroit was accustomed to failure despite being loaded with talent. He created a system, forced superstars to buy into it, and relies on it all along his years of success. I can't think of anyone with greater accomplishments in the 2000s.

Scott Bowman only coached for three years to start the decade and only met with real success once. But he's still the greatest coach in history.

some guys mentioned in the comments that there are players that hate babcock. i remember shanahan saying that his voice was like "sandpaper", but i didn't know of any on the current roster who "hate" him.

am i out of the loop?

All the great coaches have been hated. Hated, but respected.

Yeah, thats a real head scratcher there. We'll see how good of a coach Babcock really is this season. Came in like a hard ass, rubbed a few veterans the wrong way. Then had success and softened up a little too much. Like the Saskatoon wisdom, but at this point I've heard more than my fill of "i thought we played fantastic, i think we'll win most of those games, i think we just keep doing what we're doing, stay the course" over and over, I'd love for once to give the team a swift kick in the ass when they need it.

Any credibility this list had went out the door with #2.

BUT... Came back in at #1 :)

I do agree with this list for the most part, and a lot of these kind of rankings do have way more far fetched views. I honestly think the only problem with the list is #2... Make slight changes, as in dropping Quenneville a few spots and putting the rest of the guys up a spot, and you have yourself pretty quality thought out rankings. Hell, maybe it's me being biased because I'm a Windsor boy, but Quenneville is a great coach and often is the key behind teams with a rather mediocre squad in front of him. He's pretty responsible out there, yells at refs when things aren't right, but doesn't cross the line. Do I think he deserves number 2? No, but he does deserve a spot in the top 10, maybe top 5.
