Ok, so I'm interested in checking out the salary structure for the Hawks next season. Here's what I've found:

Forwards:

Toews--$6,000,000+

Kane--$6,000,000+

Hossa--$5,275,000 (signed until retirement)

Sharp--$3,900,000 (signed until 2012)

Bolland--$3,375,000 (signed until 2014)

Versteeg--$3,066,667 (signed until 2012)

Byfuglein--$3,000,000 (signed until 2011)

Kopecky--$1,200,000 (signed until 2012... lol)

Brouwer--$1,025,000 (signed until 2012)

Ladd--RFA

Madden--UFA

Eager--UFA

Burish--UFA

Fraser--UFA

Greentree--RFA

Ebbett--RFA

Bickell--RFA

F Total: $29,466,667 for 9 Forwards. 4 RFA and 4 UFA remain. 3 roster spots open.

Defense:

Campbell--$7,142,875 (signed at least through 2016...lol)

Kieth--$6,000,000+ (signed 13 years)

Seabrook--$3,500,000 (signed until 2011 then RFA)

Barker--$3,083,333 (signed until 2012 then RFA)

Sopel--$2,333,333 (signed until 2011-- at this price? seriously?!?)

Hjalmarsson--RFA

Hendry--RFA

D Total: $22,059,541 for 5 Defensemen. 2 RFA remain. 1 roster spot open.

Goaltenders:

Huet--$5,625,000 (signed until 2012)

Niemi--RFA

G Total: $5,625,000 for 1 Goaltender. 1 RFA remains. 1 roster spot open.

Team Total: $57,151,208+ for 9 Forwards, 5 Defensemen, 1 Goaltender. (rounds new contracts down to 6mil each)

Open spots: 3-4 Forwards, 1-2 Defense, 1 Goaltender (5-7 spots)

Assuming they sign minimum contract scrubs for those 5-8 spots that's another $2,500,000-$3,500,000 in salary.

Cap hit for next season without accounting for the overage of the three new contracts (all 3 assumed to be 6mil each):

$59,651,208-$60,651,208

Unsigned: 7 RFA, 4 UFA. None of these will sign for the league minimum. Especially Ladd, Eager, Burish, Hjalmarsson and Neimi.

Also note that their current roster is already over the cap by 4.6 million without accounting for these three new raises.

The Hawks are going to lose significant depth. I just don't see how they'll be able to retain Ladd, Eager, Burish, Hjalmarsson or Neimi. That's especially important to remember when they can only offer league minimum contracts AND are still over the cap. Hell, they're over the cap without the 5-7 players they have to sign.

They're do like the Pens. Have a "core" of 3 guys and change all the others every year.

Then they will make it into the playoffs, beat a couple of weak teams in 7 games, have all the good teams in the conference lose and play the defneding champs when the champs #1 and #2 D men are injured; their #1 forward misses most of the series, their #4 d-man misses the entire series get excused from an automatic suspension and from all this they will win the cup.

Simple.

 He'll have 3 years left on his contract after this season. It's hardly comparable to a 13 year contract.

2 years. But he's been brutal since the end of last year. I hope he can regain some of what made him a high priced commodity.

I'm sure they have something planned. Huet is playing good this year so it wouldn't be impossible to ship him out and go for budget goaltending. Campbell would be more difficult, but a desperate team like Toronto could maybe take him if they sweeten the deal with some draft picks. I don't think Chicago are as f***ed as you think.

But I would freakin love it if we could steal Hjalmarsson.

Keep dreamin' about Hjalmarsson

The wings have a much better chance of getting him next year than the hawks have of keeping him. There's a ton of buzz surrounding this kid right now (some of that I attribute to the overall buzz around Chicago) but I think the Wings system would do wonders for his development.

Probably wont happen, but who knows.

Gonna be fun to see where all these players will go, it almost feels like one of those team liquidations where they divy out all the players to the remaining 29 teams.

I see the numbers and everything, but I still don't see how this works. Even if they move Huet or Campbell, fill their roster holes with minimum wage AHLers, wont they STILL be over the cap?

I'm not sure how happy I would be about any of these contracts, especially Kieth's, I don't care if its a good deal or not.... 13 years is simply too much.

Keep in mind, Chicago was ecstatic a year ago when they signed Campbell, now theyre stuck with his mediocrity and contract.

Hammer is just as much as part of the core as KTK are. So you have about as good of a chance of getting him as you do KTK.

Well until you guys clear the cap space he isn't.

Ok, I know you guys know everything about what's going on with the hawks and their cap situation and what they are going to do but you're not getting him. Barker, maybe. Not Hjalmarsson.

Holy Batman! Big time player liquidation sale in Chicago. This is going to be one of the biggest fire sales in the history of the NHL... I wonder if Chicago will have an auction or list their players on eBay? If Sharp's salary was around $2.5 - $3.0, I wouldn't mind him in a Wings uniform. Kenny might be able to get Hjalmarsson for a good price... I'm sure he would like to play with a winning cup contending team. He may be a nice fit on the Red Wings.

Mmmm ... I'll have to look through their roster to see who else Wings could get at the Chicago Liquidation sale....

I don't see why everyone thinks the Hawks are in such bad shape next year. Aside from Hammer, all their decent players are signed. The rest are chaff that are easily and cheaply replacable.

Role-players are very very important in the playoffs.

Example : San Jose.

No doubt they will be good next year, but as they stand right now, they are in cap hell. Will be interesting to see who this all plays out.Bowman is either gonna come out of this looking like a genius or an idiot.

Also Chicken noodle soup has a NTC I think.
