Shaman 713 Report post Posted December 4, 2009 I don't understand what he said wrong? I can see it if he means like as compared to players like Z or Dats, who werent supposed to be making as much as they are, but, due to talent+work ethic they are elite players. Whereas Kane is a natural talent, a first rounder, and didnt have to work as hard to get his big contract.

Well I think he took it as Kane being cocky but I took it as "I worked hard my whole life to get to this point, and my hard work paid off." Don't really see nothing wrong with it. What an ass... Lol, I see how this was taken other-wise, but I agree -- his statement could be taken as 99.99% of the hard-working hockey players in the world who never made the NHL, let alone cash in on $6 million a year, are not 'working as hard as me'. Fact is, the kid was blessed/lucked-out with a ton of talent, and hard work helped ensure he got to where he was. I could work on my hockey game 18 hours a day, harder than Patrick Kane could ever dream of, and still not get within sniffing distance of the NHL. If "hard work" is all it took to get where Kane is, there'd be a heck of a lot more of us there. Besides, this is Detroit - and we like our players with a good slice of humility. Screw Kane. Why would he want to leave a promising team like Chicago? .. especially to go to most likely a bottom-dweller that has cap space?

toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted December 4, 2009 Really? You'd take 20-cent Kane over Franzen? Franzen owned Kane in the playoffs and last season ended at Kane a -2 while Franzen was +21. Kane scored 25 goals, Franzen had 34. I'm sorry, I'm going to have to be a little rude here. I think it's silly enough to consider taking Franzen instead of Kane, but to go one step further and laugh and think anyone who would take Kane over Franzen is crazy is just plain idiotic...really. I'm not a Kane fan in the least, but I can recognize that he is talented and is already a better player than Franzen even though he's 9 years younger. So, at the age of 21, Kane already has more career points than Franzen (who is 30), but it's crazy to think Kane might just be a better player than Franzen? Nhurdi 42 Report post Posted December 4, 2009 I was curious what a rivalry is actually defined as so I tried to look it up but nothing concrete. I did find this which I thought was interesting. Fun reading about some of them but there is no real information on a Chicago - Detroit rivalry. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Hock...eague_rivalries
Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted December 4, 2009 I'd easily take Hossa over Franzen. Easily. Bad choice IMO. I remember a lot of people last season saying that if it came down to signing either Mule or Hossa, to let Mule go. Seeing how Mule continued his hot play in the playoffs and Hossa completely vanished when it mattered, it was a good choice to let Hossa walk.
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted December 4, 2009 100% correct. I don't know about scared, but any Wing fan who knows the slightest bit about the game of hockey realizes that Chicago is going to be a very tough opponent for years to come. Not really. Yes, really. Do you realize how pathetic they'll be on their third and fourth lines, not to mention the fact that they still won't have a proven goalie. You go on to say/quote the following: Which is not really the biggest problem when you have Hossa, Kane, Toews, Keith, Barker, Seabrook and any 2 of those 5 you have a great core. ............ They got a 7 million a year player in Hossa for 5.2, two of the best offensive forwards in the West (and the league for that matter) in Kane and Toews, and a sick good blue-line with Seabrook and Keith. What do think Detroit has in Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Franzen, Lidstrom and Kronwall? Do you honestly believe its as easy as filling the rest of the roster with Eaves/Bertuzzi-type players? It sure isn't working for the Wings this season. Why would it magically work so well for the Blackhawks?

How many players after signing a big contract have the balls to say "I deserve it"? That's what I have an issue with. He probably does deserve it, but only an ******* would say it publicly. Yea, you are so frickin great and you worked so hard that you deserve it. How 'bout a little bit of humility. Maybe thank the blackhawks organization, your teammates or coaches next time... Can you imagine Steve Yzerman saying "I deserve it" or Nick Lidstrom or even Sydney Crosby...

He gets a big salary and his response is "I deserve it". What happened to humility? Can you imagine Stevie Y saying "I deserve it". In my mind, a person that has no humility is in fact an ass. Just my opinion. Kane is a great young player but he really is immature. I guess they don't have guys in the Chicago organization that teach the young kids how to act. Carman 387 Report post Posted December 4, 2009 (edited) Bad choice IMO. I remember a lot of people last season saying that if it came down to signing either Mule or Hossa, to let Mule go. Seeing how Mule continued his hot play in the playoffs and Hossa completely vanished when it mattered, it was a good choice to let Hossa walk. The guy couldn't put his arm over his head in the playoffs. He was significantly impacted by a torn rotator-cuff that he had to have surgery on, and only recently has been able to play hockey. Hossa carried us in the regular season. He is a top winger in the league. And is miles and miles ahead of Franzen. That said, the Red Wing's did not have the roster position to reasonable resign Hossa. It would of required too much reworking. Oh and Pat has always been very very immature. Played a couple season's with/against him. But that said he is an amazing top line offensive player, and a incredibly hard worker that would do what it takes to win.
