Guest ZetterbergFourty Report post Posted December 9, 2009 Yeah, Talbot is the reason the Penguins won. Of course it had nothing to do with injuries or anything like that. Okay, then you're blaming Osgood? He's the one that let those lousy shots in isnt he?? This is getting ridiculous.
Carman 387 Report post Posted December 9, 2009 (edited) Crosby scored 33 more points in 28 more games. Ovechkin's pace over another 28 games would be 40 points. So Ovechkin could dip well below his current playoff pace and he still outscores Crosby over that number of games. But the thing is, Ovechkin hasn't had the teammates to help him win rounds the way Crosby has. You play more games and have more opportunity to post numbers if your team is better. Ovechkin would have absolutely crazy playoff stats if he had a Malkin on his team like Crosby does. I don't buy the whole teammate discussion. Offensively speaking I think Ovechkin has as good of, if not better talent around him. Edited December 9, 2009 by Carman

Theophany 110 Report post Posted December 9, 2009 I'll agree with you for thru to the 4th round, but that's where we're at odds. He didnt do s*** in the Finals, (which everyone knows is what counts, for all the marbles!) Which actually is probably more Datsyuk/Zetterberg's doing than his own. According to this series log i pulled up, Crosby had one goal the entire 7 games. Wow, what a ******* superstar, way to step up eh? And of course the game seven, the guy barely touched him along the boards, what's he gotta sit out for? How many assists did he have? I think it was something like 3 in the SCF? Franzen's hit was incredibly awkward and smashed his hip between the boards and a 220 lb man. I'd probably be a little hurt after that too. BTW, you need to get to the SCF in order to actually do anything there. The fact that Crosby got his team there speaks very well for him, regardless what you think. Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted December 9, 2009 I don't buy the whole teammate discussion. Offensively speaking I think Ovechkin has as good of, if not better talent around him. Crosby has Malkin. Malkin's a better offensive player than Crosby. Ovechkin has no superior linemates because he's the best offensive player in the league. There's no question that Crosby has a better supporting cast.

I know because he had the same number of points in the Finals as Datsyuk did but took more than twice as many games.

I was speaking offensively, and while Malkin is better than anyone on the Capitials, I still think Backstrom-Semin-Green are better high-end offensive talent then Malkin-Guerin-Gonchar and company. Especially when we are using the whole scoring arguement to determine who is a "better player"... I'll say it again. I don't think anyone is wrong for thinking Ovechkin is better, I just don't see how I am wrong for picking Crosby. It's just a preference about two different style players when it comes down to it(Ableit Crosby is shooting a lot more this year so we'll see what happens). Ovechkin does have a couple decent offensive teammates up front. But the Caps had less forward depth offensively and less all-around talent at forward than the Pens the past couple seasons. And on the blueline, the Caps had far less talent. And even the talent they did have had no clue how to play defense. To compound that, the Pens have one of the league's better netminders, while the Caps have a tandem of two borderline starters. Teams aren't just top-end offensive support. As I stated, Ovechkin has played just as well as or better than Crosby in the postseason, but Crosby's teams have been significantly more talented. Even if you look just at high-end talent, Crosby playing with Malkin AND Hossa on the roster in 2008 is more than anything Ovechkin has even come close to. I'm not denying the Pen's aren't a superior team. But when the decision comes between who is better based on offensive out put, I believe Ovechkin has the necessary and equal talent around him to score goals. Washington's PP has been better than Pittsburgh's. So if you are going to say Ovechkin is better than Crosby because of on-pace statistics, and then say Crosby is getting more help on getting points I'm just simply going to disagree. Washington is one of the best, if not the best on the offensive side of the puck which certainly benefits Ovechkin. Crosby while his cast is certainly better defensively I don't think Fedotenko, Guerin, Gonchar are the same caliber of Backstrom, Semin, Green.
Kira 451 Report post Posted December 9, 2009 I'm sorry, but when and how did this turn into a Crosby/Ovechkin pissing contest, and more importantly, WHY???? Can we get back to the original topic, please?

Can we get back to the original topic, please? The original topic is kinda dumb; Ovie/Crosby debates are more interesting. Everyone is pretty much universally against renaming the trophies. eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted December 9, 2009 With all due respect, Crosby/Ovechkin debates are getting old and tired. Enough already. Everyone is pretty much universally against renaming the trophies. Agree. With all due respect, Crosby/Ovechkin debates are getting old and tired. Enough already. Agree, has every angle on this been stabbed? Probably repeatedly. Who would win in a scrap, AO or Crosby? It became Ovechkin vs Crosby because we're trying to figure out whether to rename it the Crosby Cup or the Ovechkin Cup. Renaming the Stanley Cup will never happen, ever. If they do that, wow, they might aswell rename the league and just set up a whole new outfit.

eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted December 10, 2009 I'm still pissed the Conference and Division names were changed... The NHL has spent more time with Western and Eastern than it did with Wales and Campbell. Be pissed all you like, but renaming the divisions and conferences, all of which were named for people who also have a trophy named for them, is a far cry from renaming trophies dedicated to honor specific people and/or donated by certain people for a specific purpose. eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted December 10, 2009 Jesus... lighten up. I'm just sick of the "The NHL ruined its tradition when it renamed the conferences! Waaah" stuff. Because we all know that the Original Six was divided up with Detroit and Chicago in the Norris, Toronto in the Smythe, New York in the Patrick, and Montreal and Boston in the Adams.
