Miller Brew 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2009 OP is confused about his role during his first stint here. His role is to be a big body and be a big net presence. We didn't sign him here to be a 90 point power forward. It appears you have unrealistic expectations from him which resulted in your original opinion. I hope he does sign a 3 year deal. He's shown nothing but heart even when he was snakebitten. And the smile on his face tonight after he scored that OT goal. Did you guys watch how all the Wings came off the bench and went straight to Bert (even Ozzie skated all the way across to the other side of the rink) to pat Bert. All the players were patting him on his helmet and Bertuzzi's bashful/blushing smile as the entire team praised him. That was truly heart felt... and I think that is the support Bert needs. I think since the Moore incident, I think he's felt "out of place" and like the "villain" in the entire NHL. I think Bert is a sincerely emotional guy... But it was really nice seeing the entire team praise him and seeing his blushing smile. I think that kind of bonding will do him good on this team. I truly think he is starting to feel like he is part of the team now, and I hope he stays here! P.S. As if you can't tell, I've always liked Bert.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted December 13, 2009 He was a better player in 2007. I'm glad he's played well these last few games, but that doesn't erase his subpar season. Time will tell how good a signing this was.
Guest EZBAKETHAGANGSTA Report post Posted December 13, 2009 He was a better player in 2007. I'm glad he's played well these last few games, but that doesn't erase his subpar season. Time will tell how good a signing this was. He hit the post at the very least 3 times early this season, with the real number probably closer to 5-6. With those goals he would be easily on pace for a 30 goal season. Even with his slow start he is on pace for 20 goals, 5 less then Patrick "SUPERSTAR" Kane got last year. Guest CaliWingsNut Report post Posted December 13, 2009 He still hasn't been what was expected of him as a big body. Woohoo he scored in two games... that doesn't make up for the 25 before it.

RedArmy 4 Report post Posted December 13, 2009 (edited) happy bert on a good team in a good organization in a hockey city playing on the ice with a playmaker like Pavel Datsyuk... yea he should do well. Let's assume he had to adjust and let's assume breaks weren't going his way (ton of posts hit early on like everyone said) average players usually don't score 2 ot winners in a row and 4 goals in 2 nights, so Bert still has it clearly... Let's hope he can keep going. Honestly do you care if Datsyuk doesn't score much, but has 80 assists and Bert going on a scoring streak? puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted December 13, 2009 Bert is doing all one can expect and then some from a player with his faded skills... he is stepping up big when he is most needed. I have nothing but praise for his efforts, and I know his team mates are thrilled for him and grateful. He was quoted in DetNews this morning, saying his hands had been gone for about eight years, but decided to show up. Thank God! Humble in the face of his recent heroics, that one. Good for Bert. I am hoping his actions will make it easier for the guys who are goal-shy to step up, too. Pasha and Z: "If Bert can do this, I should be able to, as well..." Guest CaliWingsNut Report post Posted December 13, 2009 Aww, poor baby... are you not getting what you want from the team this year? Nice... been a while since I've been baited. Yes, I wouldn't mind the team doing better. Who wouldn't? However, what does that got to do with my opinion of Bertuzzi? Oh wait... don't have a better response for that subject? tommingthepuck96 1 Report post Posted December 13, 2009 I never seen a wings player show so much emotion this year like bert did when he scored these last 4 goals, his confidence seems to have been boosted.
dobbles 252 Report post Posted December 13, 2009 like i said in one of the million other bertuzzi threads... i actually think its kinda sad that in 28 hours bertuzzi managed to score as many goals as he had in the previous 2+ months. he played great in this back to back, not even the most ardent bertuzzi haters could deny that. however, many here contend he was flat out bad for long stretches of the season. like i have said before, players like hudler, lang, williams, etc have been hated for much less than bertuzzi. SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted December 13, 2009 Last time we signed Bert, he was supposed to be the saviour. Didn't work out that way. This time, he was just a cheap alternative with a possible upside. Can he resurrect his career in Detroit and prove that he is still a force? Or is this his sad, sad, swan song? Bertuzzi was never meant to be a saviour for this team, when they were one of the best teams in the conference at the time. He was just another peace of the puzzle. And, while I've never been one of the people that flat out yell "ZOMG HE SUCKS REAR END!!!!!!", 2 great games in a row in an 80+ game season doesn't make or break a season. It's too early to tell... Hack & Whack Rule! 160 Report post Posted December 14, 2009 Yeah, I don't remember Bert being labelled as a saviour. Having said that, I think he's worth his one million for the year. He's making his presence known, especially with back to back OT goals. After hitting about a million goal posts so far, it's nice to see them going in. Personally, I'd like to see him play this year, and sign on for another 2-3 years. The unfortunate part is that with his age and back issues, he's not going to be a dominating physical force (as cool as that would be), but he can still push into the corners and battle well enough. Go Bert!!
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted December 14, 2009 Bertuzzi has looked like s*** for the majority of the season. He makes poor decisions regarding passing vs shooting, he has not been terribly physical, and his defense is atrocious. He has had a couple of good games, but it's unlikely to last because even in the last two he still was having many of the same issues.

BUHdactyl 23 Report post Posted December 14, 2009 Funny how in one week the threads evolve from "BERTUZZI SUCKZ!!!!!!!!!!!" to "Bertuzzi = Good" Told you all you'd be eating your words. Have a little faith in the man he's got the potential to be great, and he hasn't been bad this year. Playing like s***? You must not be watching the same games I've been watching... Hardly physical? No s*** sherlock... last thing we need is someone his age with a history of back injuries to start throwing his weight around like a maniac, or god forbid he stick up for our team and pwn someone's face (see next paragraph.) He's no more guilty of bad passes and/or turnovers than the next guy, and since his SO winner he's been awesome. Bertuzzi = great signing this time and I hope to see him wearing a winged wheel for at least one more season. As for the Moore incident, if anyone is still crying about that they need to grow a set and get over it. If McCarty had done that to Lemieux after the Draper incident nobody here wouldve shed a tear. Shea Weber may have ruined Lilja's career, yet nobody even remembers it - even after we play against him yesterday and he tried to injure every player on our team (boarding, sucker punching, dry humping, and practically Moore'd Draper). If you think it makes a difference because Lilja and Weber agreed to fight, it doesn't. s*** happens out there, and if Moore hadn't been A) turning his back on a fight, B) made of glass and C) On a dumbass team which decided to collectively dive on top of his face after he was punched, maybe he'd be a happy 4th liner somewhere in the AHL. If you want to get on someone's nuts look to Leino, because he's had just as much time as a top 6 F and has like 6 points all year, looks even slower than Bertuzzi, and makes even more questionable passes. Talk about a disappointment... I had such high hopes for Leino but with Filppula gone he looks lost out there.

YOu could pretty much insert most players on this roster right now for not playing up to par lately. People go on hot and cold streaks all the time in a long season. Bertuzzi will probably eventually go cold again, then have spurts where the stat sheet looks good. Just like most other players.

Two pretty big games though. His two goals against Nashville and Anaheim both gave us a 3 point swing against a division team and a conference team. Because of his goals against Nashville we are 2 points behind them in the standings rather than 5. Not quite as important against the Ducks but still a big two points for us.
