Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted December 23, 2009 What's almost worse is that all the Penguin twats on Youtube are saying how hilarious the joke was, considering Baker passed away 90+ years ago.

VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted December 23, 2009 who cares I don't know, a sports broadcast isn't really a time to be "edgy." This reminds me of that Family Guy joke "that's lamer than FDR's legs....What, too soon?" Except that FDR was a world-renowned, controversial politician (in which edgy jokes are sometimes okay), and Hobey Baker was just a hockey player who didn't do anybody any harm (which makes this joke tasteless, stupid and offensive). Marty Barry 230 Report post Posted December 23, 2009 He'll probably be forced to make another public apology and that will be that. If not, well, either way it will show managements (ownerships) true colors. What an assinine thing to say.
hooon 1,089 Report post Posted December 23, 2009 I was watching the repeat of that game today... I couldn't believe it, literally thought I misheard him. What a complete idiot.
TheDetroitRedWings 286 Report post Posted December 23, 2009 Even from s***tsburgh, that's pretty shocking. I don't care how long ago it was, that's just humor I will never understand. Casey 145 Report post Posted December 23, 2009 Holy crap, what a moron. If that's acceptable, anybody mind if I start making jokes about baseball players dropping like Roberto Clemente?
puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted December 23, 2009 Wow. Hate to think the Cup is currently held by a team with people like him working for them. I am trying to even imagine Ken or Mick blurting out something like that. What's next for Pittsburgh's finest color guy? Konstantinov jokes?
thedisappearer 291 Report post Posted December 23, 2009 Meh. It was tastless for sure and an apology is probably warranted. But fire the guy? It was just a bad joke. I doubt there was any ill intent.

I detect sarcasm in that last line, but I do believe that happened before the Finals this year.
Seraph 240 Report post Posted December 23, 2009 Don't get all high strung about the joke. It's not the fact that the man died that's funny... it's the inappropriate-ness of the joke and the fact that you shouldn't say it that made them laugh. Having said that, as an announcer, it's totally unacceptable to do on the air. On the other hand, hanging out with a few buddies, I wouldn't see the problem. Statts 4 Report post Posted December 23, 2009 I'm sure it's just a coincidence, but yesterday happened to be the 91st anniversary of his death too. Just adds to the unprofessionalism and tastelessness.

I pretty much agree with this poster,it was in poor taste but I don't get real worked up about these kinds of things. The guy has a right to be an idiot.I've just seen to much Political correctness stifle some things that should be said but never do so my radar goes up when people say he should be fired. I just hope the outrage is the same when the next thread announcing a Pens star injury and the occasional glee that I think we've all seen gets expressed here.
