Dion Phaneuf Requests Trade?

Everyone knows I have been keeping a close eye on the Dion Phaneuf situation. I have heard so many different stories from many people. Well, the story takes a different angle today. Apparently the Flames are not the ones who want Dion out, though I suppose it could be mutual.

I have confirmation from a confidential source that Dion may have requested a trade. The Flames will only do this deal if they get what Sutter wants. Keep in mind that Sutter is in charge and he is not obligated to trade Dion and will only do so if it is beneficial to the Flames.

There are many teams who would love to make an offer, so for me to say who he might get traded for would be pure speculation. The biggest news is that Dion has requested a trade, so it comes down to which team makes an offer.

Hendricks Says : Mr. Randy has been digging on Dion Phaneuf for at least a month now, so he has been keeping his ears to the ground and seems like he caught a break from a confidential source. It will be interesting to see what, if anything, comes out of this rumored trade request. The Flames have been slumping and we know from Randy's previous write ups that Dion has been at odds with the Flames staff. I think a lot of teams will at least inquire about Dion if he is available. But the Flames are trying to win it all this year, and I think Dion is a part of the equation, so they might not deal him until after the season is over. But, if he is causing this team to slump, then maybe time is off the essence for GM Daryl Sutter. Phaneuf would return some offensive firepower for the Flames who have hard a hard time burying the puck. We will continue to follow this rumor, stay tuned....

With Giordano developing into a top 4 defenceman, and the fact that Pardy and Kronwall both deserve to play, it makes sense that they might want to deal Dion for some offence. Not sure what the market is for him though, he's good and young but has been having a rough season.

Did anyone catch this?

If Ilya Kovalchuk goes to the trade block, the Chicago Blackhawks could be a team that is interested. A deal would help clear some cap for next year. No talks between the 2 teams have taken place, it’s a theory presented by an executive from a Western Conference team.

lol Chicago wants Kovalchuk. They'll have like 8 players making over 5 million a season.

...and even a worse season last year. I wish he would just retire early I hate him so much.

It would just be a rental, no way they would resign him for next year.

Yeah he was brutal last year. I know, I hate him too, but not so much because of who he is as a player. But rather for how Flames fans make him out like he's the 2nd coming.

I think it was a mistake for Flames to get Bouwmeester. They should've just kept giving Phaneuf and Regehr a lot of ice time and get some right shooting power play specialist on the 2nd pairing.

They would have better offense than they have now.

No one on this planet would trade Kovalchuk for Phaneuf. Phaneuf is over-paid and over-rated. Kovalchuk will surely re-sign in Atlanta anyways, or the franchaise will die.

Kovalchuk is not going to resign with Atlanta. Im not sure on where he is going, but he sure as hell is not staying. Im just going to state the obvious, it isnt going to be Chicago either.

I dunno, it could work in Chicago's favor. They're going to have to dump salary in the offseason anyway, why not get a great player that can help them win. It sucks to think about it, but if they can work something out it would help them tremendously.

The Hawks would have to trade a lot of talent to clear room for Kovie. Atlanta may be worried about losing Kovie for nothing, but they're not going to straight up trade for Phaneuf. There are plenty of other options that they could get more out of than a slightly above mediocre defenseman making a lot of money.

If Chi picks up Kovy it has Epic Fail written all over it (at least I hope it does :P)

Exactly. That's why I hate him so much too. haha. Although I could do with out his rushing the puck up the ice leaving them weak at the back. He doesn't do that this year much.

signing Buowmeester was the best thing they've done in awhile

Jokinen on the other hand...

Atlanta will give him the league maximum. If he decides to leave to another team, they will have to be able to offer him close to the maximum and a better team. But yeah, if Kovie leaves Atlanta then that franchise is going to be dead for a few years.
