Osgood on his way out of detroit?

Osgood, Lebda, Meech, Williams & Leino for Pavelec, Kovalchuk, Bogosian, Enstrom and Kane

Fair deal!!!

Hmm I think we might have to throw in a back of pucks and a 3rd rounder. But I'd probably do it. However, as usual Holland does nothing.

I would love to have him as a backup but apparently he isnt willing to be a backup.

I think deep down, he's willing to do anything that helps the team succeed, even if it means playing less because Howard has the hot hand right now. His comments about Babcock were probably just a kneejerk reaction to less playing time, which nobody likes regardless of who they are.

I haven't thought about it because it isn't going to happen. Howard is having a great rookie year but he'd be the first to admit he created a lot of those shot opportunities himself by letting out far too many rebounds. One excellent game doesn't mean it's time to go bananas and trade the other guy. Nor is there anything in that article (or any other that I've read) that would imply that a trade is even being contemplated.

This

I think the odds of Ozzie being traded this year are about the same as me winning the lottery, then getting hit by lightning.

There's no upside to trading Ozzie. If Howard indeed wins the starting job come playoff time, then who else in the league would be better as a backup than Ozzie? If Howard continues his lights out play, then we've lost nothing. And if Howard stumbles a bit, you've got a 3 time Cup winner to fill in. Factor in Ozzie's low cap hit and it's really a no brainer. He's not going anywhere this season.

And this...

Even if a goalie here is Detroit was considered #1, we all know that both goalies carried the load in the regular season.

Plus Howard has a lot to learn yet, a lot! The man is terrible with puck control and is caught out of the net way too much, it may be part of his "aggressive" style of play, but playing that far out has cost us the game numerous times this season.

Ozzie's here to retire. Seriously, where do people come up with this? Whyw ould you get rid of a proven, winning playoff goalie just beacuse your rookie is playing hot? It's not like Ozzie is taking up much cap space anyway.

Remember how Huet was good in Montreal, and he was essentially acting as the mentor for their young rookie, Price? And how Price played great when Huet was there?

They traded Huet.... Price has been s*** since.

Let's not get rid of Howard's mentor. I can tell you, working with Osgood is giving him confidence, and making him a better goalie.

That's a huge overstatement.

No.

And why do people keep linking to bleacherreport.com as if it's really worth reading? It's a blog site trying to pretend it's a sports news commentary outlet. But it's all fans who can't write worth s*** and have no credibility at all.

True story. Howard was absolutely amazing in that he stopped all those shots. It was seriously brilliant. But on the flip side, because of incredibly sloppy rebound/puck control, pretty much every first shot turned into three shots if not more.

People wanted to rip on the defense all game but Howard had them scrambling from the start. I'll give Howard all the credit in the world for stopping all those pucks, but he made our D's lives hell and they absolutely bailed him out numerous times. There's only so much the D can do to look composed when every other shot turns into a mad scramble in front of the net. You've got guys diving to cover an empty net while the opposing team crashes. That's not easy for the defense to deal with and that is on Howard as he quite simply needs to control the puck better. He will not always have luck on his side so he's gotta work out these technical things if he plans to last.

Hmm, i remember once upon a time, when osgood was the regular season starter. Playoffs come along, ozzie sits the bench and Vernon get the net and wins a cup. I actually expect the same thing to happen this year. If the wings can make the playoffs, i think you'll find Ozzie in the crease.

Hey I wouldn't argue with that. I'll be the first guy to hold the "I apologize, Osgood" sign.

But that would mean Ozzie wins the Conn Smythe this year and then shipps off to SJ or in this years case, probably LA and then we have Howard that sits on a teetertotter for the rest of his career and lets in just a splash of behind the red line goals just to agitate his haters and leave his followers to hastily come to his defense all the while leading us to a small handfull of stanely cups and an inordinate amount of regular season wins while styling an ugly ass helmet that only a mother could love and an upbeat attitude in even the most dreadful of times that some wonder could possibly just be compensation for even his own personal lack of confidence but years later finds himself in 2 seperate conversations - one of which includes the hall of fame, the other of which includes being the worst goalie to ever win a stanely cup. But amongst all of these issues he will simply find himself to be the underpaid mentor of a goalie who is destined to live up to expectations that never deserved to be there in the first place but then is called upon again once that the said, unproven goalie finally shapes up to be something but people are still hesitant to wonder if he can produce the same results that the worst goalie to ever win a stanely cup/possible future hall of famer has produced in over a decade thus providing an endless amount of amusing yet often waste of time posts brought to you exclusively by LGW.com

but s*** - if it brings another stanely cup then i am all for it!

If you mean he's been better... no. If you mean he's been worse, debatably.

The statement Halak's manager made a while back was true, 10W, 50L, how does a goalie with that record (and BAD STATS) have a job?

50? Do you mean 15?

Canadian media overhyped the guy IMO, but to say he has been s*** is false. If that were the case, Price would be the one the Habs were shopping around and not Halak.

Keep in mind Price is still young (22?).

Halak was taken in the same draft Howard was, just for nostalgia

As for Price

As far as I'm concerned, Ozzie is getting GREAT rest for the playoffs.

Definitely not a bad thing when/if Howard hits a dry spot. Right now you can't justify much reason for taking Howard out over the immediate short-term IMO but the starting goalie for the playoff is nowhere close to being determined yet.

The thing is... I WISH I was exaggerating.

Remember this story? It's old, but none the less...

Check this out. Sort by date. I see a WHOLE LOT more L's than W's sitting around on his record...

Where as Halak is

And Halak is only 2 years older... not like he's OLD by anymeans.

Not going to argue who is better because I don't care frankly.

Just stating that Price, although not setting the world on fire, hasn't been horrible like you had said.

Loyalty. If there's one way I'd describe Mike Ilitch I'd say he's loyal and classy to a fault. No way they trade Ozzy unless he asked for the trade.

Also, in the end Howard hasn't proven himself to be a winner in the playoffs at the professional level (AHL or NHL), so it'd be crazy to put all of our hopes in him this early in the game.

Futhermore, as we've seen with Carey Price and Steve Mason, a great rookie season is no guarantee there won't be significant growing pains as a goalie matures.

This is very true. I honestly think a goalie system is the best thing for this team to have right now. 1 of 2 things can happen with Howard. He either matures into a solid #1 guy or he slumps after his rookie year. Having Ozzie around for insurance is a good thing until we find out Howard's fate.

And I disagree. A piece of tissue paper taped to the net would win more games than him. With all the excess goalies looking for homes, they keep the guy who can't get it done.

He has potential, but Montreal is ruining him. I guarantee he'll be good when he demands a trade and goes elsewhere.
