thedisappearer 291 Report post Posted January 10, 2010 Damn, I was just messing around... You guys really need to get that sand out of your vaginas, it's making you cranky. Fair enough. I just felt the idea that we took advantage of the situation (ie, beat up a handicapped person/team)was beyond ridiculous. We can't help who Canada sends. And I apologize about the "dumb ass" part. zettie85 106 Report post Posted January 10, 2010 (edited) did you guys actually watch the clip? i did. he must have said 4 or 5 timessomething like "i don't want to hear about this US development!" ron actually started to look uncomfortable (more so than usual). i didn't have an issue with him saying that canada didn't have their best team there - it comes across as making excuses, but whatever. disregarding the fact that US development has improved like he did was stupid. then repeating it like that with such fervor just made him like an idiot...but that's pretty much par for the course. no one said anything stupid like US development has caught up or surpassed canada. they simply said it's improved a lot - which it has. LOL How bout American's just don't listen to Cherry then? How about that? Change the channel when he comes on if it's so hard to stomach. Does Don Cherry even make TV appearances in the States in the first place? I know he did for a short while but I thought he stopped doing it.

thedisappearer 291 Report post Posted January 10, 2010 (edited) Not to hijack the thread, but this topic has pretty much run it's course... I've noticed a lot of Ontario natives here. Why don't you guys root for Toronto? I grew up in in South Jersey, where everyone roots for Philly, as it's closer than North Jersey and I suppose I get that. But it's the different countries thing that gets me. I don't see me every rooting for a Canadian team when I live in the same state as an American team. Is is location? The Wing's success/Leaf's failures? Relocation? Honest question. I guess the question is valid for other Canadians too. Also, I'm not calling any one out as a fake fan or anything. Just wondering. I'm originally from Ontario and there is a general hatred for Toronto by a lot of people. I'm a Wing's fan because of my Dad who grew up in Northwestern Ontario as did I. During the original 6 times you only got 2 teams on the radio. Wings and Leafs. He went with the Wings and he got me into them to.

I live about an hour outside of Toronto, and I love the city to death, but I've been a Red Wings fan for as long as I can remember. When I was little, I watched a game on TV where Stevie scored a beautiful goal, and I got a Fedorov jersey as a gift that Xmas. Since then, it's been all Red Wings all the time. The Leafs are my favorite Eastern Conference team, but I have no real loyalty to the team, which can upset my diehard family of Leaf fans.

Long Story short, my first experience to hockey was Darren McCarty's goal vs the Flyers. So I guess I picked a great time to get into it. In my house growing up it was all about Soccer, and still is as it is my favorite sport. So not much exposure to hockey. But now Hockey and the Red Wings aren't too far behind soccer. TheOwl 77 Report post Posted January 10, 2010 Cherry is a clown. I'm a ******* Canadian and I don't want to see Canada win it every year. Real Canadians should be happy the USA won, at least it means the tournament is competitive. To be honest, that 16-0 bulls*** against Latvia, or whatever the hell it was, was a joke. Who could be proud of that? I don't want to see Canada blow out opponents. It's great the USA won, they won it fair and square, and it doesn't matter who played, who didn't play, or whatever. It was a close, entertaining game. Either team could of won. That's hockey, that's sports, that's entertainment.

It makes it exciting. Otherwise, it would be like the Blues/Wings "rivalry" that St. Louis is so sure we have. It's better this way. Although I do have to disagree about the Latvia thing. That was just fun to watch.

But since it seems you think we can't criticize him because he's more successful than all of us in the hockey world, you can't have it both ways. You never get to criticize Brett Lebda again. I'm not a Cherry fan but you are blasting him because he said some of the American's are trained in Canada and that USA's hockey development shouldn't be praised for the win. USA hockey development(if you would have read in a previous post of mine) does deserve a ton of credit for what they have done with hockey over the last 15 years but to place this win at the climax of their resume is just bogus. He may not speak the truth all the time but he has a point. The US had a great team but there have been better teams to wear the USA hockey crest that have lost at the juniors. 2007 shootout loss in the semis in my opinion is the best team the American's have ever put on the ice at the juniors. They didn't win so they don't get the credit like these kids do. It's not the development that won them the Gold this year. They played as a team and they blocked shots. 2 key ingredients to a championship team. I still stick to my point that the mute button is always available to you. If that makes you think I don't have an argument then whatever. Believe what you want.
RedWings Gone Wild 6 Report post Posted January 10, 2010 .... Don Cherry is the Bill O'Reilly of hockey.... pandering blind patriotism sprinkled with absurd hypocrisy, all for the purpose of getting morons to tune in and keep the ratings high. The only thing honest about the man are his clown suits, it's a dumb act.

Criticism is fine. Insults are , IMO, unwaranted. "I disagree with Don Cherry because of this and this and this.." is quite the reasonable statement. I disagree with Cherry quite often. "Senile, *******, moron" and the like seem rather uncouth to me.
