I've never been one to rag on Ericsson too much, but I was there, and he was awful. I'm not blaming the loss on him entirely at all, but he was really, really bad. He just looked lost out there so often. It's not even turnovers in my mind. He just seems to have no hockey sense lately. He makes many stupid passes, misses coverage, floats around, doesn't skate hard. Stuart didn't have a good night by any means, but looking at the whole of the game, from where I was seated, Ericsson looked awful. He made Lebda look like a steady, solid defenseman...

Oh in no way am I arguing that Ericsson wasn't terrible tonight. He was. 100%

I just think that as a group the Wings were terrible defensively and with regards to puck managment. 19 turnovers in one game? When you're losing the turnover game 5 to 19 there's some real trouble.

It'd be funny if they fire him before the Olympics, right when he's about to coach team Canada, and promote McCrimmon as head coach.

I would love for that to happen, just for the lulz. And to see the massive Scanners-esque head explosions that would happen around here.

All I'm going to say is this is hopefully the worst we see of the Wing's for the rest of the season(barring a bad game or two). We just cannot play a sound 60 minute game, hopefully with players getting back and the chemistry starts clicking we can balance our defense to offense game better. We looked amazing in the offensive zone tonight, and looked lost defensively. Once the team finds a way to put it together we'll be more then fine.

I'm chalking these past couple losses to a cold stretch, hopefully that's it.

Somehow out of all of this, Rafalski was +3. I didn't think he was as bad as some suggested. While he struggled with the puck on the boards, I don't recall any drastic mishaps leading to goals so much as missed offensive opportunities...

Comparing him to Datsyuk (who I practically blew my load over) in our end is real negative and ignoring when he does something great? Really?

I think the guy is a weak-ass scoring threat, absolutely. The guy has got s*** for hands 90% of the time. He can pull a great play out of his ass every once in awhile, sure, but so can McCarty. The majority of the time on offense, he's not a threat.

But I am more impressed than I was yesterday at his defensive play and I've always been impressed with his defensive play. I think he really excels almost to the level of excellence (as in, Datsyuk level, as in motherf***ing Selke level) in our end.

If I just hated the guy, why would I bother even saying that?

I'm objective. I'm not emotionally attached enough to any player to not just call it how I see it.

Your post reminds me of some racist kids saying "no, I'm not racist, I have black friends!".

So I went all out. I rewatched the all of filppula's shifts (NHL.com TOI summary = god). I was watching for all the times he fell, because it must have happened, what, 10 times going by your post? Well, not quite, in fact, not anywhere near.

He was off his feet three times in this game. The first, he was knocked down in a face off scrum that he won anyway. The second time he just got hit on the boards trying to get past someone. (I didn't think that's relevant since it was a hit, but I'll include it anyway). The last time he fell down making a quick stop. In all cases he was up skating in half a milisecond, and the last time he got up, got the puck to a defenseman to keep the play alive and right after made a great takeaway which led to a great scoring chance.

Because you are obviously oblivious to the great offensive things he does out on ice, I'm going to show you them and hold your hand throughout.

th_filpulla01-27-10highlights.jpg

I: Good play to keep the puck in, gains control of the puck and a pass into a slot, unfortunately Miller can't control it. Plays results in a solid shot on net. The video is cut off kindof early.

II: Puck gets cleared out of our zone and filppula takes on the pheonix player to steal the puck cleanly, gets it to bertuzzi and we get another solid shot.

III: After receiving a long pass, gives a slick pass to bert which results in a great scoring chance.

IV: Filppula battles for the puck, comes out with it (as he does most of the time), sets up a great play. If Miller was cleary, that puck would have wound up in the net with all that space in front.

V: Flip wins yet another battles along the boards, makes a great pass to an open bert in the slot. Another great scoring chance.

VI: Play I mentioned earlier in my post. Flip falls, but still makes the play and 2 solid shots happen, the latter resulting in a great scoring chance.

VII & VIII: What do I need to say?

IX: Great shot from a great Bertuzzi pass.

X: PP Goal

Now, these aren't all OMG AMAZING plays or anything, but they show that Flip is more than capable of being an offensive second liner and can create chances. At the very least he doesn't just fall down and botch plays like you say he does.

Face-offs were really brutal tonight, but I didn't realize just how brutal...

Zetterberg - 27%

Flip and Helm - 25%

Overall we won 40% of the face-offs. Terrible.

Brutal.

It's hard to imagine a Wings victory when they're 40% on the draw given how critical puck possession is to Wings success.

Wohhhh-- you can rewatch every shift a player has on NHL.com!?! WHERE? :yowza: (I predict a sudden drop in my productivity tomorrow)

Hockeystreams messed up (surprise surprise) so I wasn't able to watch the game this morning, but I saw the highlights and I can't believe the Wings dropped that lead with less than 2 minutes to go..

But good to see Lids with 2 goals, and both Pavel and Hank contributing offensively.

After the loss last night, I turned off the TV and said the same thing that I said after the last few games they blew a lead in the 3rd period. They need to keep the pedal to the floor and finish these games. That being said, I think the Wings played well yesterday. The yotes got 2 goals in the final 2 minutes off a darn good screened shot from the point where 2 people were in front of the goalie. Then the tying goal when Jovanowski was standing in the crease like Homer except this time neither Lidstrom, Rafalski, or Z touched him. He had time to easily put it in the net. The OT goal was another giveaway this time by Helm.

We have too many fairweather fans on this forum. Too many times has this team given us such success. Now, when the chips are down, I see too many fans throwing in the towel on the season. Its just really sad to be honest with you.

When the going gets tough, the real fans always back the team. They may be critical. They may be upset. However, they don't say they are not watching another game or giving up on the team. Too many members here are doing that though.

To quote the joker.

Substitute town for forum.

ya know guys, we have a game tonight in Minny. I'm hoping the team can forget about that collapse and come out with some fire power early. Maybe it'd be better if we were down in the 3rd, that way we don't sit back and play D and blow it again. I don't know? Just throwing out ideas, this team is killing me.

"We thought we'd done a pretty good job. A 4-2 lead with a couple minutes left," Wings' coach Mike Babcock said. "Anyway you look at it, it's a tough loss for us. We were in a situation for us to get two points and them to get none. Then they end up with two and we get one and it doesn't help build any confidence either."

Politically correct and all but he should be furious and rip everyone apart just to send a message, yeah not only behind closed doors

The HD stream was perfect all night with no lag, but i guess they still managed to f*** it up when they tried putting it in the archives

Looking for video of this game. I got one, but the video doesn't work and only the audio does. It's a .mp4 file using VLC as the player.

I agree that neither one of 'em looked too swift. Looking at Marcus's statistics is also proof that statistics can definitely lie, as in Rafalski's play and his +3. I SAW him screwing up, even on my computer monitor. He lucked out more than once last night. I saw him do a 360 in our end and luckily, the puck hit his feet as the Bad Guy was bringing it in.
