Washed up Sergei Fedorov centering top line for Olympics..

You see it constantly on this site, people talking about Fedorov like he was riding Yzerman's coattails or that he was an overpaid second rate player or the most ridiculous that he couldn't play on this team any longer.

Fedorov is going to be centering Ovechkin and Semin in Vancouver. Datsyuk is going to be on the "checking line" with Morozov and Zaripov.

Anyone who thinks Canada stands a chance is out of their minds.

Fedorov was never overrated or riding Yzerman's coattail. He was as good, and for a while was centering the top line with Shanny, I was young so I can't remember if it was good chemistry with him and shanny or that yzerman was semi-hurt. Too bad his career went downhill after Detroit.

That said I doubt fedorov stays on the first line for long, even though having him up there creates ridiculous top 3 lines. Unless I'm missing something and the coach loves Fedorov.

Ovechkin-Fedorov-Semin

Kovalchuk-Malkin-Afinogenov

Zaripov-Datsyuk-Morozov

I don't think its a matter of love, its a matter of only having so much puck to go around.

That makes no sense, and I call bs. Datsyuk is going to be on a line with Kovalchuk and Afinogenov, guaranteed. He has too much history with Ilya not to be, same reason why they're saying Crosby is gonna play on a line with Bergeron.

Who ever said any of those things?

I am not aware of the Wings ever having a more skilled player than Sergei Fedorov. Not Yzerman, not Howe, not Lidstrom. Had the Wings' coaches or players been able to motivate Feds and keep him motivated, I really think he could have been as good as any player who ever lived. As it is, Yzerman and the wing's coaching staff were not able to get Feds to play to his capabilities, and nobody has done nearly as well since. Sucks, but I'll always have a bit of sadness thinking back to his time with the wings, not because he wasn't great, but because he was never as great as he could have been.

F'n lazy greedy Rusians.;)

Iginla - Crosby - Nash

Perry - Getzlaf - Staal

Heatley - Thornton - Marleau

Toews - Richards - Morrow/Bergeron

that can't compete with the Russians at all? Hell, that 2nd line alone will abuse the Russian's D.

and i think playing fedorov on that top line would be a big mistake. he was a legend here in Detroit...but his last couple years here in North America...he was a big bum

I wouldn't say he was a "big bum" the last couple of years. He did really well in Washington. But him being on the first line with Semin and Ovechkin seems like a big defensive liability to me. He just can't keep up with the backchecking aspect of the game anymore, and lets face it, both Ovechkin and Semin need all the help they can get with their defensive play. Datsyuk seems like the only logical choice at center for those to, but I guess the coaches know better. I wonder if Datsyuk's decline in offensive production this year had anything to do with this

If Perry is playing ahead of Heatly, Babcock is an idiot.

In other "Russian Olympic Hockey" news: Sergei Zubov (who is leading all KHL defensemen in scoring) declined to go to Vancouver as a reserve. Apparently he's got a big ego and got offended that he didn't make the main squad.
