1/27 GDT: Red Wings 2 at Wild 5

You proved my point. We have to rely on Calgary losing. What happens if they put together a 3 game winning streak? Reasonable. The Wings can't do that at this point. We would need a four game winning streak to break into the playoffs, which hasn't happened yet this year. At this rate the Wings are more likely to go 1-3 and Calgary to go something like 2-2. Guess what, perfectly reasonable for both teams, and the Wings would still be outside of the playoffs.

It's fun to think 30 games is a lot of time, but it disappears quickly. The other teams don't just stop playing games.

I agree.

We've separated ourselves from the teams above us, and don't forget that there are teams below us which are now climbing, like Anaheim, Dallas and Minnesota, all teams who we've generally given points to.

Calgary is the least of our worries right now.

Good news is Datsyuk and Lidstrom are producing. We need them to.

Bad news is there are still a number of games before the Olympic break. We could really use that break right now.

Howard has to start every game for the forseeable future. Sorry Ozzie, can't afford to let you play yourself into shape.

Forget about this and move on to the next game.

I'm not saying Osgood played well by any means, but you can't sit here and blame him.

I know that's the knee-jerk reaction for a lot of people, but here's reality: in the last two games we've given up 5 goals with Howard and Osgood. Osgood had to face a lot more chances, rushes, etc. in this game than Howard as well. The team fell apart in front of Howard for the last 5 minutes last night and for the entire game tonight with Osgood.

I don't think either of our goalies are winning the games for us lately, but all these goals being scored have been good goals and/or defensive breakdowns. Even that 4th goal which I thought was the worst for Osgood should never have happened as we got caught up in a lazy change and we utterly failed to cover guys. Again, not saying Osgood was sterling, but neither of these guys, nor any other goalie, is going to bail us out of these defensive disasters.

Exactly. The only team that is giving us any help with the standing in the West is Calgary.

Also,

You put up 2 or less goals in a game in today's NHL, you'll lose 85% of the time. PERIOD.

Yes I can!

I'm gonna do it right now! Watch me.

I can say that he was out of position most of the night.

I can say that the last 2 goals were partially because he was slow in reacting to the play.

I can say that a big save might have turned momentum our way instead of getting scored on.

I can say that he was rested, eager to prove himself worthy of more games, and allegedly focused and he turned in a performance like this, and pretty much earned his own engraved clipboard for the rest of the year.

I'm glad I stopped watching after the first.

The Wings are just making me depressed right now and it isn't even entertaining watching them score anymore.

Does this surprise me? Nope.

Yep. I don't blame him for two of those goals. But he WAS mostly out of position.

Am I mad for staying up to 3/4am to watch these games??

I don't know, you might want to look into some sort of recording device, record the game and watch it when you wake up. Might help your sleep schedule and sent you off for the day pissed off instead of trying to go to sleep pissed off.

Pretty soon, we'll be 5 points out of a playoff spot, and people will be saying "Hey there's still 20 games left so anything can happen"

This team is running out of lifelines, but they either don't notice or don't care.

Seriously, just write a blog if you want to talk about how much this team sucks.

It is getting irritating to hear "THE END IS NIGH" every few posts with you.
